  1. Lee is indeed correct, that is a very nice colour choice. Although sitting next to the Golf shows just how big it is. I have been driving around in an NX for the last two days and I thought that was way too big.
  2. That's fair enough Jack, and having re-read your post with what you have just said, I obviously got the wrong end of the stick and I apologise. I will edit my post, so sorry if it is confusing for people who haven't read the thread yet. On the subject you mentioned, I totally agree that the diesel backlash has begun, and also it is completely unfair on diesel buyers. Perhaps the government will actually do what it says it will do and hold off on penalising the owner for some time to come. As for electric cars, I will hopefully still be around when the ban comes in place, and as a build up to that I think it is going to be an interesting few decades to come.
  3. Well, as an example, my car was 7 years old and with a 109k miles on it when I made my first claim, which was for a dual mass flywheel. Since then it has had 3 calipers replaced, and is having a new seat back fitted next week at 9 years old and 130k miles. The only thing they wouldn't cover was my engine mounts, but the dealer came through on that one, so I wasn't too bothered.
  4. Well, he did say in his first post: "Firstly, the car I am buying is a 2010 (59 plate) IS 220D SE-L" You are absolutely correct Paul in that the 220d is not for you. On the other hand, since I am doing mostly motorway miles, it suits me fine and mine has done well these last two years.
  5. I had to read this line twice to make sure I understood correctly. Wow, that is so unexpected that I almost don't believe you. Exceptional service from the dealer. Very impressive. I do agree with you regarding the independent assessments. Every time I hear of someone getting it done, it never works out well. Perhaps I am being pessimistic, but I do wonder if there is some pressure on them to deny claims.
  6. Sounds simple? How does replacing a cracked radiator involve extra work?
  7. It might also be helpful if we knew what the fault was?
  8. Hey Andrew, Happy to meet up and have a play to see if we can get it working. PM me and we can arrange something.
  9. Hey, As far as I know, the only solution they implemented on the 220d was what you had done previously. It was definitely on a case by case basis, and I suspect the feeling from Lexus is that at the age the cars are now if it was going to fail it would have done it by now. You hear about it happening less often on here anyway. I believe the 200d doesn't suffer the same issue if you can stretch to one.
  10. Renewed mine 2 weeks ago and ended up with Hastings. It worked out to £357 for my 39 year old self with a £95 excess. Slightly annoying was the fact that it was £37 cheaper when I did a quote 3 weeks before, but my insurance didn't go up this year so I suppose I can't complain.
  11. Ok, let see: 1. Not normal, so could be a sticky catch. 2. Not that I have noticed. 3. Normal and very annoying. Although it should only appear when you first turn the car on. 4. Not normal. On a long motorway run, I would be somewhere in the 40's depending on how fast I was going. 5. Not normal. It should start easily every time. Like you say, perhaps starter motor or battery. 6. Sort of. Mine seems to sag a little over time, but it generally returns to the same place every time. Is it both mirrors? Do you have the seat memory option? 7. Normal I am afraid. Bluetooth only used for making phone calls. 8. Difficult to say without more info. For the mirrors, see here: I think that is about it for now.
  12. Well, that is no good. I will admit to being slightly worried about this GS450h shock failure trend that seems to be building up since I am considering one as my next car. I would keep pushing it up the Lexus food chain, but I am afraid I don't think you will get very far with the Ombudsman since it is clearly out of its warranty period. Still, doesn't cost you anything to try.
  13. Welcome Paul, You must have good taste because you have chosen one of the best colour combos. I am always of the opinion that you are better off with used approved, but that is my head talking, and my heart has always wanted to try the feel good factor of a new car. Really helpful, I know.

How odd. If he has a copy of TechStream, then he can run active tests to see how the system is performing. He can then check those against the manual to see if they are within range. That should help narrow down the problem. Does he have a copy of the repair manual?

Yep, that is the one. Although you will see there are many to choose from on Ebay, so you can usually get the same thing a couple of quid cheaper.

No probs, I have my fingers crossed it goes well. Please let us know how you get on. It is true that the 1st mechanic should be dealing with this, but I suppose the last thing you want is for him to touch the car again. Depending on how well you know this mechanic, perhaps you could ask him to help you with the Techstream software? It is less than £20, and it would be very useful.
  17. Damn, I need to find a family member that works for Lexus That is an impressive scheme to say the least. You lucky sod No doubt you are cruising around in your new toy by now, so enjoy.

It does sound like the first garage screwed up something. This what the manual says regarding stalls: Unfortunately, to diagnose most of these you would need a copy of Toyota's Techstream software. If you are handy with a laptop, these can be bought cheaply on Ebay. If you took it to a dealer, they would use the same software to diagnose it. You should have a definite answer, but it wouldn't be a cheap solution. If you trust the second mechanic, can't he at least narrow down the problem a bit?
  19. Sounds like hassle free motoring at its finest. I know someone who has a similar scheme with VW and the choice isn't huge. Also, since they are allocated on priority, the best cars are not always available. Is that the same with this one?

Ok, so I am a little confused. Does the car start and then cut out, or not start at all? You need to find out what fault code the car is giving out. The car can be pretty specific about what is wrong, so it should help. The 5th injector is only used in specific circumstances, so the car should be able to start fine with just the 4 normal ones. If it were me, instead of getting a locksmith, I would find someone to plug in a fault code reader into it to see what is going on. Alternatively, you could always get the reader yourself and find out.
  21. Cool. Yeah, they weren't so bad once the diff was fitted. I know what you mean about fuel consumption though. I had a 156 V6 with a supercharger back in the day and 15mpg is about the best I got. Like you say though, the sound more than made up for it Did you ever see the 3.7 GTA that Autodelta did?
  22. I think Lee summed it up perfectly I bet you get a nice discount too.
  23. Does this forum have any moderators? If so, can one of them explain why this god damn thread hasn't been locked yet?
