Just got stung for £99 air con service WITHOUT a new filter, had the MOT and intermediate service done at same time too and yet still have the old cabin filter in due to "replace if needed" on the service checklist, ridiculous! Most other makes do this every year. No stamp in the service book either so have to go back another day for that. No internal clean and vacuum. Not too impressed for the cost.

Lexus Extended Warranty - Worth it?
IS300Hdriver replied to Casa1862's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Think it's about 1/3 cheaper but no stamp in the book apparently, you get a little card with something on. The main concern for me would be the Hybrid battery, with Lexus servicing you get a 1 year warranty extension up to 10 years old, so hopefully the cheaper essential service would include this too. https://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/ I've got a 3 year service plan with a London Lexus dealership, but not my closest or most convenient, for about 20% discount. Have a shop around. UPDATE: Looks like Lexus have just updated their warranty price to £895 for the IS on the new site, my fault. -
Lexus Extended Warranty - Worth it?
IS300Hdriver replied to Casa1862's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Well spotted, I've just sent them an email as i'm currently paying DD instalments for my extended warranty to commence in December at £895 for 2 years, I'm fearing this is a website error as the other prices look right, unless they've deemed the warranty repair claims since it's release to be far lower than expected or the uptake of the extended warranty to be poor due to price. Seems daft to take out a warranty for a Lexus but others will say when something does go wrong the cost can be eyewatering on these, so piece of mind really. Probably wouldn't bother extending the warranty yet again at 5 years old. Also remember the extended warranty covers you for comprehensive European Breakdown Assistance, worth £120 a year. I have a broken demister element on the rear windscreen, will have it assessed for a warranty repair when it goes in for a service next week, if they try to wriggle out of it due to being glass I won't be best pleased as there is no impact damage, the only exclusion in the T&C's. Will be interesting to see what happens and will greatly influence my decision to keep the warranty or get a refund. -
IS Three likes/dislikes
IS300Hdriver replied to Ian J. Parsley's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Likes: 1) Looks fantastic 2) Reliability 3) Rare sight Dislikes: 1) Plasticky centre console that scratches easily (makes cracking noises if you lean your leg against the sides or when you go over bumps), general cheap plastics all around, not what you'd expect for a premium car, this is where the Germans excel. 2) Infotainment system is ancient, ridiculous for a Japanese car, Sat Nav looks old and has very odd routing vs current sat navs/google maps, so glad I got the car used and didn't have to pay for this 3) Ride is far too firm for a non-sport model through town, affects the relaxing drive you "should" have with the Hybrid CVT box -
Better mpg in eco or normal mode?
IS300Hdriver replied to bagpus's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Tried using ECO for a while, and despite driving in traffic through London, just find it makes the car far too anaemic. I've bought a 2.5L car to be able to make decent progress, and find the car actually nicer to drive with a lighter accelerator pedal in Normal mode. Also note that ECO mode will turn down your aircon flow and reduce steering assistance a bit to save power. I wonder if the increased dependancy on the hybrid battery in ECO mode could affect it's long term life span a little? -
I've got an element not working on the rear windscreen, basically half the way, edge to the vertical line in the middle, would this only be caused by a break in the element or could there be another cause? Not particularly easy to reach, I suppose I'd somehow have to remove the parcel shelf to repair if it was indeed slightly broken.

How to remove the rear seats
IS300Hdriver replied to Stuart Aspey's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I found 5p and a rusty nail, gave it a good vacuum though amazing all the rubbish that collects beneath those rear seats! Is there a certain way those 2 hooks sticking out the back of the seat bench go when putting it back in? Just sort of wedged mine back in, looks like everything is as it should be but wasn't sure if those hooks have to fix into something. -
As Nemesis says above with his 4 month old RC, Lexus wanted £1100 for a respray, so a touch up stick will do the trick for now, just be economical with it and it should look good enough. Scraped the bottom of the bumper wing on my IS somehow, think I hit some debris on the motorway, just painted over it and the surrounding chips with a few gradual applications, still looks a bit crap but I don't take much notice anymore.

Just get yourself an official Lexus paint stick and touch it up every now and then

Rattling front passenger seat
IS300Hdriver replied to IS300Hdriver's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I suppose much of it is weight saving and crash safety, but yes it's dissapointing to have cheap thin plastics in a premium car. Had a Jeep Cherokee for 2 weeks on holiday in U.S. recently and that really was solid for an American vehicle if a little cheap looking inside, not a squeak, and the road surfaces are truly awful over there. But, it is a SUV with big tyres and soft suspension. However I would say the interior coped very well with extremes in heat without making the myriad of cracking and popping noises the IS does when the A/C cools the interior down. -
Rattling front passenger seat
IS300Hdriver replied to IS300Hdriver's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
One thing I've learned over the years is that when it comes to trim rattles, you're far better off figuring it out for yourself. As my issue was seat related this led me down the route of a warranty issue, but v good point about the 2 year limit on rattles. Fingers crossed the lubricant has sorted whatever it was. Unfortunately I've not been overly impressed by some of the plastic trim pieces, the centre console in particular, does creek a fair bit sometimes, particularly with changes in temperature. The mouse itself is also very creaky much of the time when selecting things on screen. I took the console apart and put felt insulation tape all over the place which in fact made it worse so removed it all again. The relatively stiff suspension on the Luxury and the 17" rims don't help things, glad I didn't go for the F Sport despite its good looks. Think my next will have to be an SUV with soft suspension and fat tyres to soak up the bumps and hopefully minimise the rattles and creaks, although I've heard the NX is pretty harsh too? -
Rattling front passenger seat
IS300Hdriver replied to IS300Hdriver's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I think you might be on to something Rabbers, moved the seat all the way forward and sprayed tons of GT85 along the guide rails and all other metal components, initially heard a crunching type noise when moving the seat back and forwards which has now gone, and no rattle. If it comes back then I'll take it in, but very tempted to cancel the booking as they probably would try charging the fee for "wasting" their time. -
Hybrids & Heat
IS300Hdriver replied to hybridbatterysolutions's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
The s-flow option definitely seems to help with energy efficiency. I know it's obvious but best to open all your windows and doors for a couple mins before starting off to let as much hot air out as possible, a windscreen shade also helps but I keep forgetting to put mine up. -
Lexus Woodford, other dealers around London offering 5-10% if anything at all. Unfortunately you have to stick with that dealer for the servicing as they're all franchises and the service plan is funded through their chosen finance partner etc.
-
Official servicing essential for maintaining warranty in the initial 3 year period or any Lexus extended warranty leaves you paying top dollar but have a good ring round dealers within a reasonable distance for 2/3 year servicing plans, managed to get 20% off doing this.

Got the car booked in to have a passenger seat rattle investigated, the dealership have said if it's not a warranty item (which it should be as I've got the Lexus approved warranty) I'll be charged a £168 investigation fee! Would be great to have your thoughts to perhaps avoid having to take the IS in altogether, the issue as follows: - Tinny, small, vibrating "spring like" metallic rattle coming from the base of the front passenger seat on the left side where the manual adjustment handles are, or the underneath along the guide rail for the seat - Sometimes solved temporarily by adjusting the seat in several directions but always returns after a few days, vibrating rattle consistent with road surface. My only idea so far is some kind of spring is loose in the adjustment handle housing somewhere, despite the two side handles for recline and height operating normally? Otherwise maybe something to do with the underneath forward/backward adjustment of the seat but that seems pretty clunky in mechanical composition and wouldn't result in the sort of tinny vibrating rattle that's driving me nuts. Perhaps someone else has had a similar issue or can at least point me in another direction. I've ruled out keys and loose change etc, and 99% certain it's coming from the left side of the passenger seat.

Climate Control Question
IS300Hdriver replied to 03397's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Probably a safety thing to stop emissions poisoning if sealing yourself in, wouldn't worry about it unless the flow of air coming through is strong. Check your cabin air filter is fitted correctly (in the glovebox). -

I don't get this navigation!!!
IS300Hdriver replied to B1001's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Defintely check this out first, but I gave up on the sat nav, absolute rubbish and dated (in every way) compared to everything else out there. Now use google maps navigation. -
Without wanting to be blunt, ripples will be the least of your worries with the exceptionally soft leather in these cars. As Linas says, opt for nasty German leather if you want durability. I've learned to let go of the visible flaws and just enjoy the comfort.

Lexus Customer portal is back up - MyLexus

I can't upload my settings to my Lexus either from the version I have in my car (63 plate with latest update) so looks like this is designed for much newer cars anyway. -

Centre screen blemished
IS300Hdriver replied to sliyk's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Tried getting it replaced under extended warranty but as expected considered wear and tear, despite being the subject of a TSB. Unfortunately to replace the plastic cover you have to remove the passenger side of the dash to be able to unbolt it, so I did as others have and polished the anti-glare coating. I used a plastic polish product called Novus, small bottles available online. No 3 polish does the nav screen cover, no 2 does light scratches on the the perspex instrument cluster cover. No 1 is just a cleaning solution, but often you'll get the pack of the 3 including cloths for about £16. Looks so much better now except a little bit in the corners I need to work on a bit more. Bit messy so make sure you cover everything else up around it. Would highly recommend doing this as the screen looks much sharper now, HD like. -
With all the predictable noise regarding an inevitable diesel clampdown, I can't help but feel content that I bought a "luxury" hybrid at just the right time. I could see this coming last year so got rid of my tax free Volvo diesel for the Lexus, looks like it may be the best car buying decision I've made in a long while. Do you think the normally overlooked IS300H could become the go-to vehicle for the German diesel saloon brigade and start commanding stronger resale values? Or just wishful thinking?
