Could also add, covered 620,000 miles in those cars, with lots of miles in the two LS’s LS400, plug leads caused misfire (172k) LS430, g/box recall, fuel pump recall, steering column motor, new radiator, suspension sensors (220k) IS200, wheels replaced, clutch (120k) GS300h, no faults (48k) IS300h, no faults (42k) NX300h, noisy boot struts - warranty (18k) -

My experience with LS400, LS430, IS200, GS300h, IS300h and NX300h over 20 years has been very good. Currently use Milton Keynes who have been great. Sheffield was exceptional. Flowers and chocolates when taken in for a warranty recall. When they diagnosed the wrong motor on the steering column they found the correct one in Cambridge and put it in a taxi to ensure my car was returned at the agreed time. Only the old Bracknell dealer failed to deliver and they closed a long time ago. -
Quite common and not just watches. It used to be leather jackets in motorway service areas. “Company overbought, almost free etc.” As always buyer beware.

Agree my boss had a Citroen CX2400 which I drove frequently. Very, very smooth ride but fully powered brakes with a small almost button on the floor took some getting used to. The steering which quickly self centred the second you let go was also strange as was the gauges. I also had BX and C5 estates both had a really good, hydro fluid powered ride. Changing the fluid was really easy with the pump doing most of the work.

Agree, I bought an XM when they came out in the early 90’s in fact I still have the 200 page hardback book that Citroen gave to new owners which covered the cars development. The ride was perfect but reliability terrible. Stranded on the road three times, radiator pipework and electrics. When the hydraulics fail, (once for me but pretty rare) you are in big trouble, suspension drops, then power steering stops then no brakes.

Like the circle of life, I tried to remind Lexus what it used to be like in the 1990’s. My LS400 in 1996 was serviced by a joint Lexus/Toyota dealer. In reality it was Toyota and it got so bad that Lexus insisted that all Lexus dealers had to have independent premises to protect the brand. (Was it reasonable to take in a £50k Lexus and be given a £8k Corolla courtesy car for the day.) Do we really think a minor service will be done by a dedicated Lexus technician during holiday periods in a Toyota centre? Nothing wrong with Toyota but if I want Toyota servicing I’ll buy a Toyota.

I used Rock Auto for my Corvette and they never failed. -
2021 US Sales, LC500 = 3,000. Corvette = 33,000. I really enjoyed my Corvette but wouldn’t ever compare it to Lexus quality. Surprisingly both my Camaro and Corvette V8’s were totally reliable, and pretty good in a straight line. There’s a reason the US doesn’t have many roundabouts.

Lots of reasons for Lexus to keep that secret. Some “smart” motoring journalists will claim to know to enhance their reputation but it’s unlikely to be correct. That it exists gives them benefit on so many levels. When I took my old GS into Milton Keynes the service team could not wait to show me their LFA in for servicing, and only a million bucks more expensive then mine.

Making the leap from an IS250 to an IS300h

We had the F Sport. Enjoyed it, positives gauges, negatives hard ride and really easy to kerb wheels. We had red leather, the only choice for two pensioners. -

Another electric bus fire at Potters Bar last Sunday. TFL have now withdrawn 90 electric buses from service. Could be that the rush to electric is not as carefully considered as it should be.

Last time I flew in a jet the pilot appeared to apply full throttle on take of. There was no indication of any gear changes or drop in engine revs. Could that be the most efficient? Who would have guessed.

My 2003 had 7k when I bought it in 2004. Did 220k in nine years and your list of potential faults is pretty good. Swopped radiator, steering column tilt motor, several air suspension sensors. Several parking sensors. Gearbox and fuel pump recalls in first year. Never let me down, superb car, especially at lots of mph on the motorways in Germany. Replaced my LS400.

Lexus Servicing costs

For sure there is a market. Looks like the RC F but drives like the IS300h. Why not have much less power for those who don’t want V8 costs or performance, just not for everyone. I like my NX, and did our GS and IS. Would I like a bit more torque and a bit less engine noise when 4 up on a steep hill, yes. Quality, servicing and reliability easily keeps me with brand at 70 plus. When I was younger and needed to cruise nicely I liked my LS400 and LS430. Nothing else came near.

On my NX it’s possible to turn off parking assist with a button to the right of the steering.

As I assume the brake lights are switched on by a pressure switch I would say yes.

All views and opinions welcome. Small points but my opinion. When I had a Cobra Replica I was on the Cobra forum, I still visit but don’t post critical comments. When I had a Corvette I was on the Corvette forum. Again I still visit but don’t post critical comments. Now I have an NX and Westfield and I’m on both forums. If I want to go fast round corners I don’t use the NX but it’s still my choice for most journeys. Can’t comment on the ES because I’ve only sat in one. I did like our GS. Just works for me.
