  1. B4U2 most Honda fans would say 100k miles is barely run in. Since my first car an old school mini, i have exclusively driven Hondas for the last 30 years and they are Bombproof bar rear brake calipers seizing. Like Colin i had a Honda Accord and jumped ship to IS300h when Honda stopped making large saloons. I still currently own a 1998 Honda integra type-R which now currently sits at 208,000 miles and still revs freely to 9000rpm. Cheers, Rob
  2. Yep Lucas is right, ive owned imports now for over 20 years and currently pay about £170 for my DC2 Integra-R and its not on specialist insurance. I think if you got back to when the floodgates opened with JDM cars comming over on mass, insurance companies where caught cold and bumped their prices up or wouldnt insure which will be what Linas is talking about. The other myth at the time being you couldnt get parts from UK dealers, i can only speak for Honda here but my local dealer always accomodated me, including have JDM headlight bulbs in stock. Rob
  3. I am now on my third windscreen after 2 'failures' within the first 2 years of ownership where nothing significant appeared to hit my screen. Both of my screens had to be fitted at the service centre due to the recalibration needing done, the second one being non oem. Also the non oem screen has now lasted by far the longest out of the 3 screens so i wouldnt worry about specifying an OEM one. Im more concerned why these screens seem to break so easily bearing in mind i roll along to work and back at 56-60mph on a straight road with light to no traffic and never close enough to the car in front to catch any crap it throws up. On the flip side my Integra-R, now on over 200k miles is still on its 26 year old original Oem windscreen, probably spends 90% of the time over 60mph and sits much lower than the lexus. Also the integra-r windscreen is significantly thinner than a standard integra screen, so i can only conclude they dont make windscreens like they used to. Rob
  4. Hi Derek, I will let you know tomorrow for sure as i only access the forum from work but im pretty sure they both ended up LV. Rob
  5. Yes Lucas thats a good point, I use a local broker that discounts for select local postcodes. they just send me a letter once a year with the deal they have found and i just say yes and pay over the phone. I remember when i moved up here from Glasgow i had a Honda CRX and i got a quote after searching myself and best a could get was Norwich Union for about £530, a neighbour mention a local broker (4 doors down from me), so i walked round and spoke to them. 30 minutes later i walked out with my new insurance certificate freshly printed for £269, and the insurer was Norwich Union ! Rob
  6. My Lexus insurance went up from £362 to £379, but then my Integra Type-R insurance went down from £190 to £171 Rob
  7. Its just another way the government bleaches you of all your hard earned wedge, Ironically i could have got the same car in Silver for exactly the same price 36k, but the tax would have still been over £500 as it goes by the manufacturers book price and not the price you actually pay. Rob
  8. I had this when i ordered my IS300H F Sport in 2019. Narrowed my colour choice down to grey or silver then fortunately the dealer told me that the grey one would be £120 to tax and the silver one would be over £500. Totally bonkers as it would have physically been the same car, just silver paint was £300 dearer. Guess what colour i picked Rob
  9. Yes Ronnie you right they are legally bound to compensate you for not turning up or cancelling a late appointment. I ended up getting nearly 18 months free broadband and line rental from Virgin media as they kept not showing up to dig a hole in the road and install my fibre broadband. Better still i never had to chase them up for it, they just emailed me with my re-calculated bill. Rob
  10. Hi Julian, It does sound like a wheel bearing though they dont always behave the same when failing. Having just replaced 3 in the space of a year in my integra the noise i had was a droning noise with a mild thud that gets proportionally louder with vehicle speed. Also if you think its a front left, find a small roundabout at a quiet time and drive round it and the noise should get worse as your putting more load on that side of the car. Outwith that jack up the car and spin the wheel and it should feel a bit rough compared to doing the same with the right front. IMHO ith wont have anything to do with driving over something. Rob
  11. Hi Dave, Yes you can just start a new Maintenance package when that one ends. Im sure your dealer will give you the options at your final service as mine did when my 3 year one ended. I started a new 2 year one when my 3 year one ended Rob
  12. Hes posted it in the IS300H, IS 250 and IS200T forum and he has an IS250, just sayin Rob
  13. As an old school Honda guy thats a nice selection of fast Hondas there Marcus. 1981 Mini 1000 HLE (somehow morphed into a Mini 1300 with full cage, RIP) 1989 Honda CRX 16v (195k miles RIP) 1990 Honda CRX SIR ( 165k miles, friend now has it, sorned at mo) 1994 Honda Accord ( RIP) 2002 Honda Accord 2.4 exec ( mapped, total sleeper, RIP) 1998 Honda Integra type-R (DC2 205K miles, shared daily driver) 2019 Lexus IS 300H F-sport (25K miles, had from new, shared daily driver) Not many cars in 37 years of motoring but i do like to get my moneys worth. Rob
  14. Sorry i meant no notable difference to fuel economy. Just shows how different we all are, i gave up on eco 4 years ago as i find the sluggish pickup borderline dangerous. I also dont pay much attention to fuel economy. Rob
  15. 300h F-Sport here and ive been getting 46 ish for last 6 months daily driving, Always in sport mode with Air con on. Ive never found that eco makes any noticeable difference and on long runs the best ive had is 49 Rob
  16. I use a bottle of redex every year on my Integra as it used to fail its MOT on emissions and the Garage told me to put a bottle in, go away and cane it about for 20 mins and bring it back. It would then pass. Whats important to note is that its a Jap import that only runs on Premium fuel so redex is doing something that fuel additives in premium fuel dont. All that said i was also asked by my Lexus dealer if i wanted fuel cleaner during my service which i agreed to, though i doubt they did it as they dont seem to do anything much when i give them it for a service. Rob
  17. I tend to agree with both comments above, you really need to drive one to see if the car suits you, but for me it was F-Sport or nothing as the wheels, bumper and dash make all the difference IMO. When i was ordering my car i test drove a non F-sport model as they had no f-sport demonstrators available, the ride was a tad softer mainly due to the smaller higher profile starsky n Hutch tyres. How harsh a car feels is all relative to what your used to, my other car is a DC2 Integra type-R, slammed on coilovers with about 11 additional brace bars, so my F-sport feels like a hot air balloon as i waft along to work on a morning. Rob
  18. So sorry to hear about your car, this is my biggest fear with Lexus ownership unfortunately. Manufacturers always seem to be slow to react to serious issues like this, the cynical people myself included are fully aware that they shift more cars while this is going on. Back in the nineties a Chinese friend of mine had his Civic VTI stolen twice in 6 months outside the Casino in Glasgow city centre. His superb solution was to make a small plywood seat shaped board populated with nails facing upwards, upon arriving at the Casino he would put the board on the drivers seat and then fit a loose fitting seat cover over the drivers seat. I can verify that this method worked for him as i saw the 'used' board along with quite artistic speckled red paintjob that that the once bottomfeeder (now bottombleeder) left. I do not condone this method, but it works Rob
  19. Truely Horrifying, there is no way the dealer in question would have missed noticing this when they got the car in and cleaned it up for resale. Tho with the experience ive had with my dealer, nothing surprises me any more. Personally ive be getting a full refund and reporting them
  20. Hi Jimmy, Check the tyres, if the low mileage is genuine you SHOULD have 4 bridgestone Turanza tyres with in excess of 8-10mm of tread. I have a 2019 F-sport also with 5.5-6mm of tread on each tyre and my car has done 19k odd miles. Also you should be able to tell from the interior as with 2200 miles only it should look and smell like a brand new car, mine still does. A car with 75k miles will absolutely not have escaped any general wear and tear (check driver seat bolster). Regards, Rob
  21. The current tank of fuel i have nearly used up has given me an average of 47.5 in my 2019 F-sport, always on sport mode (throttle response on eco borderline dangerous IMO, plus sport mode uses no more fuel IMO). Car pretty much only does 16 miles each way commute to work at 55-65 mph. In winter in averages 42-44. Rob.
  22. Hey Davey, I own a 19 plate F-sport with 10 inch screen /nav which i think was called 'Premier pack' option when i ordered the car new in May19 and took delivery in July19. The book price for this at the time was £39,800 but im Scottish and only paid £36,500. Its hard to tell if your paying too much as the second hand car market has gone bonkers in recent times due to production shortages with new cars caused by global issues round the world. Negotiation wise i found little joy, most dealers offered me zero discount whatsoever when i offered to pay cash, yet offered me £500-£2500 off when taking a PCP deal. Anyway i ended up buying mine from Lexus newcastle who i could not fault in any way whatsoever, great bunch of guys compared to the arrogance and inflated prices of the scottish dealers. Rob
  23. Thats such a shame Josh, but Marks right you wont go wrong with a honda to save and get some cash together as they are bombproof. Rob
  24. I agree with Baz, Looks like a bit of screwed rod has fallen from a flatbed truck and you've drove over it. Doesnt look like anything ive ever seen underneath a car. In my experience anything that thick on a car would have finer thread pitch on it compared to pic and wouldnt be threaded all the way along. Rob
  25. Earth strap is usually just a peice of braided copper strip or cable linking components to keep all the grounds the same potential difference bud Rob
