Lexus Model

  1. I would highly recommend: A) Not going to the main dealer B) Give Russell Birch of Toyotec in Redhill a call - probably a lot cheaper and just as good if not better quality work
  2. I would highly recommend Russell Birch of Toyotec in Redhill - http://www.toyotec.co.uk I had a bunch of MOT work that needed doing and he saved me well over £500 compared to what my local garage were going to charge, purely through better techniques and knowledge of the car. And he also diagnosed an engine bay rattle for me for free (it was my aftermarket cruise control unit).
  3. Seems Toyotec favourably reported on here https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/search/?q=Toyotec Found using the Search facility
  4. On tyre life I go more for 10 years, but it depends on the manufacturer. Mind you, this is my experience with cars and maybe with SUVs it's different. That's why I posted the Michelin picture, since in my experience of Michelins (but on cars), at 5 years with 6mm tread the edges still look polished. Thanks for the Toyotec reference. I've seen them recommended before as well. There's another recommendation for a garage in Sidcup but I think it'll be a better drive to Redhill. Any experience of Toyotatech in Guildford? Google maps shows it as a very small operation but the chap has been recommended in our forums in the past.
  5. 6 years is generally considered to be the safe life of a tyre. I wouldn't go past this. Might be a bit far but Russell at Toyotec in Redhill is very good and honest.
  6. Bit late to this thread but for future reference I would highly recommend Toyotec in Red Hill. Run by a guy called Russel who is very knowledgable and honest.
  7. Depending on your location I would recommend these guys: http://www.toyotec.co.uk Honest and highly competent. I went there recently and they could have easily billed me for a bunch of work that was indicated from an MOT advisory, but had a quick look under the car and told me (and showed me) that it was entirely spurious and didn't need to be done at all.
  8. Might be a bit far for you but I recommend Toyotec in Redhill. I recently had some MOT issues and my local garage quoted over £1500 for the work without a wheel alignment. Toyotec quoted £1120 *with* an alignment.
  9. To add a further query, does any one have personal experience of 'ToyoTec' at Redhill, Surrey? I live SW London and would be pleased to locate a well regarded independent Lexus trained engineer not too far from me. I saw this company on the internet but I always prefer to listen to other peoples' views before hand. Thanks for any pointers.
  10. They're not lying about the fluid lasting the lifetime of the car, when that fluid's burnt up the car's done :D I'd say 50k miles or so and don't use anything but the original specified fluid and a Toyota filter if the filter is replaceable. Toyotec did mine earlier in the year for a total of about £300. They showed me a jug full of the old liquid - it was dark brown and clearly used up.
  11. http://www.toyotec.co.uk/services.html These guys did my gearbox fluid change when I first got my car, they seemed to know what they were doing. I think there are a few toyota specialists in surrey.
  12. Id agree.. under warranty id stick with dealers as i plan on doimg this with my GS300h. But on the ISF i have no warranty on and tbh i have no intention of getting it serviced by them unless they give me a big smile discount. My car has been looked after by toyotec in Lincon for the last 6yrs of its life after couple of Lexus visits, and their prices would you believe are same as Dealers , otherwise i would have gone to them again (mainly for a stamp). My dad all his life worked on Toyota's and ive picked up invaluble experinece. Im planning to do all the services myself and keep the receipts to prove the work has been done at a fraction of the price dealers charge. I noticed people value receipts more then a stamp in a book. Some may disagree. Sorry that was slightly of topic.
  13. Actually what I needed to find out was specifically how to remove the trim without breaking it. It turns out that there are three latches on the edge of the panel nearest to the seat and you need to poke a screwdriver or similar sized flat object into them and push them backwards (towards the front of the car) to release them. I asked Russell at Toyotec to show me the latches and he very helpfully did but until you actually see what they look like it's very difficult to work out how to open them.
  14. Many thanks to you all for the responses. In response to your questions I'm 99% sure the car was running on the battery alone before that ran out, and my initial gut feel of a fuel supply issue is still valid. Lexus Tunbridge Wells were not willing to proceed without changing the main battery, (£4.5k) but would not commit to this solving the issue. Despite on the surface appearing very helpful, they did not seem too interested (perhaps understandably) as my pockets were obviously shallower than their average customer and the car was old and of low(ish) value. They advised that they had attempted to charge the main battery and that they had performed the inverter recall (no way of verifying this). The notes stated that "car runs for 12 seconds and then cuts out, I'm fairly sure that this is the starting cycle rather than the car actually running? There are no exhaust fumes from the rear during this process, nor even a particularly strong smell of fuel. I do believe that there are battery issues, (the car was filling with water due to the infamous rear joins which I solved but who knows what impact this may have had on either the cells or contacts to the HV cells). I don't think this is the key problem though. The car is now with Toyotec in Crawley whom seem a little more sympathetic to the cost constraints. I'd be interested if anyone has had experience of using them. Will try to learn to write more briefly and update as things develop!! Tom
  15. don't think there are any Lexus specialist around as I live in Bedfordshire aswell so I tend to either use Lexus MK or Jem or Toyotec both based near London. was it a fluid change service you needed?
  16. Just incase this is of interest to anyone. I have found these local to me. http://www.toyotec.co.uk/ http://www.albinbmotors.co.uk/ http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/ http://www.japexperformance.co.uk./ Regards Mal.
  17. Barry, I use an indie in Crawley/Redhill- Toyotec- I wont touch Lexus Croydon anymore. The guy is called Russell who owns it and I havent found fault with any of the work they have done on my current RX, or the IS300 before it. Russell Birch - Toyotec <russell.birch@toyotec.co.uk He ex Lexus/Toyota and (imho) knows his stuff. J
  18. Need it doing and for the sake of good order I thought I would get a couple of quotes. When I had my IS300 I used Toyotec a few times and couldnt complain at all about the service or prices. In essence the 70k service is Oil and Pollen Filter. Toyotec £135- all in. Lexus Croydon- £380- seriously!- when I queried what it covered he couldnt tell me apart from it covered the 70k service. when I told him it was oil and pollen filter he offered a £60 discount- I felt so touched I nearly took him up on his offer.... Not....
  19. Yeh russell at Toyotec did my spark plugs aswell 66 mile drive each way but his quote was cheaper than Lexus quoted me if i factored in fuel cost aswell. so went with him and enjoyed the blast back home.
  20. Back in August I had the following done by Toyotec in Redhill/Gatwick: 100k Service, Timing Belt and Water Pump (7/8/12) Cost: £733.69 J
  21. Have you considered Lexus Milton Keynes I have used them a couple of times but not for car servicing. they seem to be reasonably priced. worth asking them for their essesntial care service package as that works out cheaper for cars 5 years or older.. or try these guys. I have used both toyotec and albin for spark plugs, brake fluid, diff and gearbox oil changes and service and price was reasonable havent used Jem yet thier website can quote service prices. http://www.toyotec.co.uk/ http://www.albinbmotors.co.uk/ http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/
  22. Little update on this: the car is a 2004 with 70K miles and a full service history, although the recent servicing was not Lexus dealer, and it came with a 3rd party warranty. I've booked it in for an engine diagnostic at Toyotec and a brake check at Kwik-Fit. So unless both of those come back as perfectly clerar I'll be booking some work on it too. No tyres yet as I've been saving the pennies, still interested if anyone has experience with Michelins on the RX. Also noticed that the wheels are bubbling in places so I'll need to get those sorted sooner or later too...
  23. I was wondering if this was the case, i'm used to using the handbrake on my Accord Coupe (3.0 V6 auto so similar in many respects) when stationary in traffic so I was expecting the RX to be okay with a similar technique. Looks like I'll have to adjust my driving style. Thanks for the other items, I'll have the battery checked ASAP. Jasons - thanks for that I'll look into Toyotec, I'm not very enthused with the Lexus delaer in Purley so far when all I've tried to do is get an idea of costs for accessories and had to run back and forth between showroom and parts/service shop
  24. Hi fella, At that age, I be prepared to go indy rather than main dealer... I've just had my IS300 serviced at Toyotec down in between Redhill and Crawley. Guy knows his stuff and their labour rate is £65p/h so much better thn main dealer rates. J
  25. You wont be far from Jem Lexus they based in London so might be worth giving them a quick ring for the 60k service quote or you can also get a quote off thier website for a full service. if your car is over 5 years old getting it serviced by Lexus will not add anymore value to its market price if you come to sell it on but will surely make it appealing to the buyer as they will know it's been taken care of by the seller. as confimed by Steve get a list of what the 60K service involves and chances are it will still work out cheaper if you get an Independent Lexus garage to carry out the Job. http://www.jemlexus.co.uk/index.html http://www.toyotec.co.uk/services.html http://www.albinbmotors.co.uk/
