How long can you leave the car parked up for??

Recommended Posts

Just realised as of this Friday wife's IS300H would have been sat idle for 4 weeks. How long does the 12V Battery last in the IS300H?? Also been on the same tank fuel since end of March, still got 1/4 of a tank left....I persume the fuel will be OK for a while longer?

I once left the 300h parked for exactly four weeks in cold weather and it started first time.  As regards the petrol in the tank, I believe conventional

wisdom is not to leave unleaded petrol unused beyond a couple of months whether in a tank or jerry-can.

if the Battery is flat dont be too concerned you can always jump start the car

so not really an issue for the 300h ,dont think you can say the same if it where the leaf though :-)

Shouldnt really jump start the IS. Has a big sticker on the bootlid saying "Do not attempt to Jump Start this vehicle".

4 weeks is not an issue, I left mine over winter for 4 weeks and it was fine.

Petrol goes a bit off. I can feel the car running better on petrol straight from the station than on the 4 week old petrol (wife fills up once every month or something)

if you look on page 547 or section 8 - 2 it does clearly state

the following procedure may be used to start the hybrid system

if the 12v Battery is discharged,it then goes on to say

open the exclusive jump starting terminal cover

and then explains how to hook up the jumper cables

but yes in the boot it does say to get someone who knows what they are doing

You can jump start the IS but not with a huge set of croc clips direct to the Battery in the boot. Use the port in the engine bay.

If you are worried about the 12v Battery going flat then invest in one of the many small lithium jump started boxes available. I keep one in my boot just in case. As the Hybrid system uses the traction Battery to start the 12v Battery does not need much to energise the electronics.

This type of thing as an example of the many similar ones available.

I measured the quiescent current and it was around 15mA. So as the Battery is rated at 55Ah then 3600 hours or 150 days before flat.

Thanks for the advice, finally drove the car last night, no issues. Just had a new addition to the family, and the baby seat is in the Leaf. I cycle most days to work, so I can the IS300H spending a lot of time on the driveway this year....At least it stays looking clean much longer :)

My mate has something similar to this. Jump started a 2.5l van with it, which refused to jump start from a Toyota aygo. Keeps trying to convince me to get one.
