Hill start assist

Recommended Posts

Sometimes when I come to a stop on a hill e.g. At a traffic light, I can take my foot of the brake and the car does not roll back. Is this the hill start assist? How does it work and does it cause any damage if used too much?

Thanks

Paul

It works when you brake to a complete stop and then depress the footbrake some more, before lifting off. The brakes remain engaged for a couple of seconds before releasing. It's designed to give you time to take your foot off the brake and onto the throttle. It's quite a nice little function and I'm sure you can use it as often as you like without cause for any concern.

No issues with it here?  I just stop and release the brake and I don't roll back.  Only issue I find is if the hill isn't that steep you do get quiet a lot of creeping forward.

That's what I was trying to describe. I don't think it is the hill start assist as it does not stop after a few seconds. I think it must just be the creep forward is equal to the roll back. I wondered if the car compensated for the roll back and gave more creep.

Hill Start works for the duration of the Stop until you naturally apply the Handbrake   Perfect for a Traffic Jam on the Entrance to Mt. Blanc.

Mine didn't . The firmer depression of the pedal, once released will keep the brakes on for a few seconds before releasing them. It's not permanent. It's different from the 'hold' function which isn't on the IS (unless some of the later ones have the auto and not manual parking brake).

In hundreds of applications I have never needed to ? the ability & normally never use the H/Brake ------I guess I must apply the footbrake within seconds of stopping.
