Is300h test drive

Go for the Lexus wheel insurance. Don't really know who ALA use tbh. Could be any old bodyshop for the wheels.

Never bought Gap insurance either so don't know.

Generally Lexus is quite expensive for their car insurance and Gap insurance though but I believe their wheel insurance is very comprehensive

Thanks @rayaans,  Has anyone got any prices on Lexus wheel insurance?

The ALA Alloy wheel cover is for SMART repairs upto £100 so not sure if this would be enough to repair the wheel if it had some major curbing.

ALA do seem to have loads of positive reviews and GAP insurance I would normally steer clear of but it might be worth it if the worst did happen.  https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/ala.co.uk

The wheels cost about £80 + VAT if you get them done separately. I presume the ALA £100 limit on wheels is for touch ups, which cant be done with the IS wheels as the colour wont match. Generally wheel repairers will take the wheel off, sand it down in the affected areas, put some filler in and then paint over the top and blend it in. Works with cars which have a paint code for the wheels but not with these!

I think the Lexus insurance for wheels is about £400 for 3 years

£400 oooh  that's quite alot but will have to ask ALA or who they use about colour matching as there quote is alot cheaper but will look in to.

Just been for a burn on my bike through some villages and a IS300H went past.  He was parked up at the next village and managed to catch him walking away from it so had to ask a few questions.   Guy was a bit older than me but in the Sonic Titanium but not the F-Sport.  He's only had a month as a company car but very pleased with it.  Mentioned the MPG which was as expected 46mpg for short trips and 50+ for longer ones and he's done 4000 miles in a month so sounds like he's up and down the motorway although quote a distance from it where I found him.   He mentioned and showed me the inside which was a very light grey leather that looked pretty smart and what was interested was a tablet/dvd player that attached to the back of front seats.  Showed me the DVD unit which had a Lexus logo so guessing it's a optional extra.

Am wondering about the add-on's to be had possibly.  I am getting the Premium Nav and could have got the Active suspension and Crash detection I think?  wondering if I can at a later date?

I used ala for gap insurance - although I only have a lowly vauxhall astra diesel - got cover for £105 for 3 years although it has now expired as I have paid for the car and its only worth about £5k now.

You do have the option of extending it if you wish to.

I would imagine the wheel ins is worth it with the wheels the Lexus IS has - especially as it will mean lexus will do the repair work, or soemone authroised to do it and the paint match should be spot on ish.

Do you mean the Wheel Insurance with ALA or with Lexus is worth it?

Lexus said they don't do wheel insurance and tried to push the Supaguard protection which is for the bodywork and interior!!   Anyway I am discussion with Revive who do the Smart repairs on bodywork and wheels to see if they wouls match the F-Sport wheel colour as have read it's difficult to match well. Also the Sonic Titanium that I'm getting it in.

If they do the wheel cover is £180 with ALA insurance and the bodywork cover is £240 both for 3 years but not sure it's worth it but at the same time like the idea if and when I need it I can use it without worrying about the surprise cost.

Lexus have said they have a specialist come in once a week who can do these repairs but am waiting to find out likely costs.

That's crazy! I bought combined wheel and tyre for my NX in September. It's administered by Premia Solutions and is excellent. I can't believe Lexus are no longer providing cover, it's a good earner for them, if nothing else. I also had the cover for bodywork on my IS which was Sonic T, it's a difficult colour to blend in but can be done.

The Supaguard is a waste of money IMO, if you're looking at protecting the bodywork a ceramic sealant is best, but does cost a bit more.

They do still provide wheel insurance. It might be a dealer insurance though rather than a national Lexus wheel insurance thing.

Sorry to hi-Jack this thread but like the original poster, I'm test driving the IS300H Sport on Friday this week.

One question which I've not been able to find the answer to yet...... What's the pickup (acceleration) like when on a motorway when wanting to overtake?

My current car is the Volvo V40 D4 which always has plenty when wanting to overtake or get out of tricky situations.

I totally understand the IS300H is a different style of drive to my current Volvo but any insight to mid range acceleration would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys

Regards

Andy

IMO it's no problem at all in Normal mode, put it in Sport and it is very responsive indeed. In Eco there is a bit of a lag so personally I wouldn't bother using that mode. I don't think you will be disappointed at all.

Mid range acceleration will be quicker

The IS300H can go from 30-50 in 3s and 50-70mph in 4.3s. Don't rely on the 0-62mph test results on hybrids, they rarely show what they're capable of.

For reference, a Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid with 410hp manages 0-60mph in 5.5s yet 30-50mph is 3s (exactly the same as the IS300h) and 50-70mph is actually slower at 4.6s.

Impressive huh?

Great reply pal, very impressive when you look at it like that.

I guess I'll find out first hand when I get my test drive on Friday.

I'm sure you wouldn't find the 'in-gear' acceleration of the IS300H lacking, however regardless of which mode you put the transmission in there is always some throttle lag, this is due to the amount of time needed to rev the combustion engine up to speed to deliver the power. It's not that noticeable in day to day driving, but it's there.

So I am still waiting for my IS F-Sport to arrive,  should be in the UK tomorrow!!  But won't be ready till Tuesday or Wednesday grrr.   They kindly gave me a CT200H Advance as a loaner and must admit it does pull quite well through to 70 and beyond on the stretch of A5 around Milton Keynes.  Noticed in Sport mode the steering is also a bit heavier which gives a feeling of control and the throttle more responsive.   It does certainly take a few days to really get used to how it performs compared to a diesel car.   Can't wait for the IS of course as the CT just lacks something.

I have my days test drive tomorrow.

I have to admit I'm feeling a bit anxious.

I really want this car to be brilliant after reading most of the posts in this forum they're mostly really positive so I really shouldn't have anything to worry about but I suppose I'll find out first hand tomorrow.

If all goes well I've the arduous task of waiting until the end of October before I can get my hands on my own.

For what it's worth I'll update you guys on how I get on.

Just make sure you test drive the various driving modes.

1: EV mode with general acceleration for relaxed pottering around town

2: For more spirited driving put the transmission into 'Sport' mode and than 'manual' gears (move gear stick to the right).

Also ask the sale team to show you how to turn off the fake engine noise generator, in my view it adds nothing to the driving experience.

Hope you enjoy the test drive.
