Is300h noise

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 IS 300h  with 22000 miles. I  bought it in Dec 2020 with 18000m. I cannot believe the ' scraping  noise from either the transmission, power steering or front wheel bearings. Is this normal?

Short answer is no, absolutely not normal, can you take it back to where you bought it to get it checked out?  Unlikely to be anything worn with that mileage, do you get it at all speeds on all roads?

I’d say some small stones have worked their way between the rear of the front disc and the backing plate. Potentially both wheels but more likely on the near side which is the side closest to the edge of the road where most of the loose stones are. The noise when it happens is bad. Not much info from the OP though and a first post so who knows if it’s a serious post.

If Paul is correct, then reversing at a little speed (in a safe area) might well throw out the offending particle. It did for me.

Yes, definitely a shot bearing, very surprised with only 22,000 miles.

I can only assume it was a faulty bearing to start with, send it to SKF for analysis.😊

Mechanic said I was lucky the wheel didn't jump off. Says they're find more shot bearings due to poor condition of Scotlands roads. I admit to hitting a few big potholes.

I am still surprised with such a low mileage, I work with bearings quite a bit as a Mechanical Technician & normally find if they fail prematurely it is often either lack of grease of faulty bearing.

I suspect its a bit of both, 22k miles is poor any circumstances
