Cleaning Blues

Recommended Posts

I have only joined recently, but from reading the messages you guys seem to know all the ins and outs. I have taken delivery of my new IS200 SE in BLACK. This is my problem. Can anyone suggest a way/product to make keeping it clean easier. I have tried a chamois leather and that is OK, but I always end up unhappy with the result. I then spend hours polishing it. The end result is great, but it would be better if it was easier.:?::?:

Any help/advice would save my sanity and Sundays.

Welcome to the club ramman!

Well, keeping the car clean is not that easy. I also own a black IS and it's a pitty to keep it clean. What I do is wash the car once a week and polish it afterwards.

I know it's not a great help...oh well...

Welcome to the club ramman, I too had many problems to start with (mind you black is still a nightmare). Firstly the paint does not like hot/warm water, cold hands I'm afraid. Use top quality shampoo & polish, e.g. Meguairs, Autoglym I am currently trying others but not sure of their worth yet.

The best polish i have used is mer polish (i think thats how its spelt). its in a light blue bottle with a gold cap. My dad swears by the stuff on his merc.

so looks like im gonna have fun in winter with cold water while im washing it.

why cant you use hot/warm water

I use like warm water soapy you get the grease off as the shampoo reacts with warm water

then go behind with my jet washer

squeegee off then chammy.... waxing i do 4 times a year.. because after so long you start seeing swirl marks when polishing too much!

Mer is good because it's quite easy to get on & off but I really do find that using the proper turtle wax gives you a great shine & lasts ages...only trouble is...it's such hard work...the end result is worth it though! Welcome to the club mate, youll find loads of invaluable info here & great people too!! :tumble:

Hi Ramman, welcome to the club. Didn't your dealer offer the Diamondbright service. I got it free, and it appears to keep its shine longer. But also as others have said, make sure your use a decent cleaner and polish. Bring it to JAE and we'll get Steve or Matt to show you how!!!!

Hi Ramman,

Welcome to the club.

I have been using Tcut Colourmagic on my black IS but then when I bought my car it was second hand and the paintwork was lightly scratched and dull due to the effects of too many car washes.

Colourmagic brought it up really well but Autoglym will help keep it shiny.

I'll be back out polishing for the weekend.

Beleive me it is worth it though!:smilegrin::smilegrin:

You can now get it in Halfords????

I have the Zymol starter kit -'Japon' & Treat - cost £70 but just buying the leather conditioner and a couple of goodies in the kit would have been more.....

www.sportscarworld.ltd.uk

Based in Kent.

Just need the rain to stop long enough for me to use the stuff enough to decide - which is the best, Zymol or P21S !! :?:
