The dangers of Jump Starting

Today I nearly seriously broke the car.

Being used to old bangers and stuff I tried to Jump start my mates car... It was'nt until the RAC man said that I might have screwed it up on the ECU that i panicked.

But luckily the car started ok... close call.

I did that on my husband's Honda and was 'politely' told not to do it again.....:o

only the other day I nearly had to jump my father's car, but luckily my brother turned up, and we jumped it off his company car.

Do you mean jump start as in with jump leads or by pushing it and lifting the clutch?

If its with jump leads thats how i've seen the RAC start cars with flat batteries.

Jump start from leads... I could not get the old diesel van started.. so we called RAC

I am gonna take the car out for a spin and make sure all is fine

I've done it plenty of times wth my GS - never had a problem

I've jump started another IS before but both mine and the other one (a company car) survived. Perhaps I should avoid doing this favour in future though?! :o

(In case you're wondering why an IS would need this - it'd been left in the car park for weeks while wrangling went on over who could have it and the Battery drained from the alarm etc.)

A few people have told me (after the event) it's bad to do it.

So.. I am chucking my leads away!

Potentially, you can "spike" the ecu but I've never had a problem - it's OK if you're careful and don't connect anything to where you shouldn't ;)

Always remember Pos to Pos and Neg to Neg :lol::lol:

And make sure you connect the Positive Lead last and everything is switched OFF inside the car with the flat Battery, (Light's etc)
