Health Warning For High Mileage Is's

 Share

Recommended Posts

My Prolex-UK technician in Dorset was doing a cambelt change on a 103k mile IS (LOCer) when he got into change it the tensioner belt had worn allowing the belt to creep forward.

The result was the belt had worn down to 1/4 of its normal width !

His advice is to check the belt at 80k just in case (its a quick job to pop the cover open)

Not the first time this has been noticed.

Maybe lexus should revise the 100k interval ?

Possibly but the belt will last 100k if it isn't allowed to move. Hopefully Lexus dealers are checking the belt condition earlier because they should be aware of this problem.

Recall a member in Cardiff had this problem - only just escaped a real disaster as I recall - Lexus / dealer paid - wonder if Lexus HQ are aware ?

I had mine done at 80k because Lexus said the belt didn't have much left when i took it in for the service but they wouldn't say to the nearest mile!! (they even tried to get it done under the service plan - no luck though)

When i had it changed the mechanic said 500 to 1000 miles maximum then it would have been goodbye pistons hello max'd credit card

I got mine changed at 50K although the car was comming up to 6 years and the belt had not been changed before. Get it done, id rather pay 200-300 quid then a couple of grand for a new head or engine.
