Squeeking Clutch?

Recommended Posts

My clutch has started to squeek whenever i press/depress it. It's alot louder when the cars cold and then quietens down but remains the more i travel.

Ive opened my door and it sounds like its coming from under the car but not sure if its something that might just need lubing up or if its something on its way out!

any idea's??

Could be a worn clutch release bearing.

Does the car speed up as normal, when you bury your foot in the carpet, does the car speed up? If it does then there is no problem, if the car doesn't pick speed, then your clutch is on its way out.

If the clutch is fine, then don't worry about the clutch release bearing, just change it when the clutch finally goes.

if the clutch release bearing end`s up packing up would it not shatter or break and go inside the gearbox?

Corsa, this diagram will explain how a clutch works and what are compoents of a clutch kit. In this diagram, they have called the clutch release bearing a thrust bearing.

@Dazz32: Can't answer your question, but many years ago my dad bought a Vauxhall Cavalier (with 40k on the clock), which had a noisy clutch release bearing. He ran that car upto 160k without ever changing the clutch or any other clutch compoents...

great link mate. do you remember what lexus charged to lube it up? did you watch the guy do it? If so was it easilly accessable from under the car or does anyone have a picture of where it is as i'll lube it myself if it's easy to get to.

It wasn't an official Lexus garage. I went to the main dealer where I live, only to be advised that the Clutch was on the verge of expiring. Got a second opinion at a smaller Toyota/Lexus specialist who put the car on the ramp and pin pointed the fact that the squeek was coming from the pivot arm inside the rubber mount. I sat inside the car, depressing the pedal whilst he sprayed some oil /or other lubricate to the arm. End of the squeek.....

I seem to have a similar problem. Whenever I pull away from low revs I get a sqeeking noise that sounds just like belt noise. The thing is, though, I don't need to touch the clutch pedal to experience the squeek. If I'm driving slowly in e.g. second gear and then press the accelerator I get the squeek for approximately one second before it disappears.

I'm the kind of person who hates annoying sounds from the car, so I really want to get it fixed even though it might not be harmful.

The first time I noticed the sound was just after I had my timing belt changed. I figured it could be one of the other belts, so I had them changed as well, but it didn't help.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Really does sound like a drive belt slipping, are they all adjusted correctly?

To test try a VERY light amount of oil on each of the drive belts in turn, its a way of decucing which belt if any are at the cause.

If it happened after a timing belt change then it would be wise to check that also, as although they cant slip (without going wrong) it could be a bearing or the belt catching.
