ya it is worse in the heat..much worse. heard a very loud rattle yesterday around the gearbox..not the leather gaitor but the black plastic/rubber panel that surrounds it (where the gear numbers are stuck on in silver)..

I think you must have got a Monday morning or Friday car judging by the many issues you have encountered with it. Hope you find a solution.

Mine had high density foam, rubber, foam, air, all sorts...nothing at all worked. In out in out shake it all about. In the end I fixed it permanently myself personally...me myself and I...PART EXHANGED IT

Mine's still so quiet it's eerie, but it accentuates the slight wind noise I seem to have around the top of the doors. I can also hear any slight rattles caused by stuff in the boot/glovebox/other storage areas which can be really annoying, albeit tempory. Embarrassed to say the ML system doesn't get used very much as I prefer listening to the sounds generated by the V6 and the Tanabe system :)

I know what you mean - the IS250 Auto SE/MM loaner that I had 18 months ago was superb. Other than the common squeaky seat (which can be fixed easy) it was very very quiet, and the sound of engine was entertaining.

well,it was both passenger and driver air vents, but according to oliver in service it's not actually the vents but the dashboard mountings.they took the dash out and refited under a factory approved fix.dash has gone back exactly in the correct position without any drama or damage.also a follow up call the next day to check that all was well.a very professional dealer, restores your faith.

Speak to young lady in Wolves service pronounced "sharn" not sure how you spell it but she is very helpful.
yes her name is pronounced sharn and is spelt sian and has irish origins.

chandru,i dealt with oliver who knew the fix but we did'nt test drive, the mrs took it in actually.it's a four hour job to refit the dash.

Guys,

my advice to you all is to look carefully at where the dash "rides" the A post trim. There was a distinct high "watermark", if you know what I mean. I'm sure I took a snap of it and will try and post it if I can find it!!

I was convinced that my dash had dropped 3-5m after all the in out in out shake it all about!!

In fact what it turned out to be was that in Hot weather the dash was expanding out and up by 5mm and covering/creating the "watermark"! Have a look and see if you have the same. It would be interesting. Again - the dealership never verified this - I did myself!

It's no wonder that the dash rattled like a bag of spanners in warm weather - some of the plastics were expanding and contracting too much in relation to others. I even took an MPEG2 and WMV video and handed it to the dealership on it's last visit in June. It makes very painful viewing, and the creaks are so pronounced that it was a shocker to see. The dealership kept that video.

In cold weather both of the front side vents would buzz quite badly. 6 vents later, I removed the driver side one as the dealership were unable to fix it. I lightly applied some WD40 (with a cloth) to all clips and surfaces which were not visible and it cured it! I had to revert to DIY in the end...

The clips are prone to breaking - so be warned! Prise the vents out at your peril. Mine were OK but the clips and design ain't that great!!.

the fact is like myself you have had all of your dealings with leices lex who are in my opinion poor in their customer service ,in fact i am still waiting for them to replace the passenger side cill that they damaged ,i have made two phone calls this week too martin the service manager without a return call.i think that leics are a clearing house for volume sales and have little time for customer problems.with a good dealer back up i believe your problems would have been minimised.what a shower.

dgman, I agree - but I couldn't be arsed to travel the country for another dealership - so I perservered!

The managers were excellent with me ever since my first problem where I immediately got the DP involved. One of their "rattle technicians" is excellent however, and knows where to look etc, but in the end it either works or it doesn't....

There should be TSB's fr every issue like this now - some cars are now approaching the 3rd year and I am sur that Lexus will want these problems resloved on every car once it is out of warranty. Keep perservering!

I had the same squeak coming from my driver's seat as you have. Lexus Glasgow acknowledged it straight away, and said they'd get an upholstery company who specialise in cars to fix it. And they did - when I got it back they'd replaced the foam, so no more squeaks, it feels the same and you'd never know they'd had the cover off. Funny that one dealer will take this approach, while the other will replace the whole seat.

I have a creaking drivers seat, started about 2 months ago, seems worse in the morning. What's actually causing this?

car went in to lexus birmingham on wednesday for the following:

-drivers seat squeak n leather cracking (replaced with whole new seat incl cover)

-drivers front side wheel damaged when last in the dealer centre (replaced with new wheel)

-driver n passenger air vent rattle (said they have fixed the problem by fittin dampeners around them)

-driver n passenger seatbelt housing rattle (have re-fitted them)

-satnav misrepresents itself on startup for a bit and also after when parking after selecting reverse gear (said they couldn't find a fault with it n the systems take a while to locate themselves. They aren't instant. )

-plastic casing around gearbox rattles alot, not the vibration around the leather (have again fitted dampeners around it)

-main speaker on passenger door sounded like it had popped (have fitted new speaker)

-rear view mirror vibration (have fitted new one)

All in all quite a good job. All the problems seem sorted. The only thing is the rear view mirror still vibrates when the music is on. Usually have the volume around 20-30 and all options (bass, treble etc) in the middle

My IS250's in for service next week and I'd like them to sort out the rattle which comes from around the seat belt fixing on the door frame. I've read on here before that there's a technical service bulletin for fixing the seat rattle, but I'm concerned that if I take the car in and ask for them to be fixed as per the TSBs, I'm going to be either looked at as if I'm from Mars or given a good fobbing off. Does anyone have any TSB refs I could blind them with?

Many thanks in advance.

Sadly, I think there's a degree of ratling on most cars - even the "prestige" marks. My last car (a 5-series BMW) had horrible rattles from the rear seat and dashboard - both were sorted but I think it goes to show it's not just a Lexus issue. I have had my IS250 back for a rattle around the seatbelt mechanism - seems quite common. One thing I do find is that, in my car, dash board rattles seem to be more to do with what's in the glovebox than the dash board itself. CD cases seem to rattle like mad in there!

Currently 4 BMW's, 1 Audi A4 (new shape), 2E Class and 1S Class (all MB's) in the wider family and friends (that's all the prestige cars) ...only 2 have a rattle problem - front door panel in Merc E class (going in this week) and rear parcel shelf which "squeaks" in a 530i and is out of warranty...

Our 5 series is unbelievably quiet - cathedral like - and I can't believe it (still)...and the handfull of BMW's we tested in July were totally silent too...

Not so long ago we had 1 Lexus, 3 BMW's, 1 Audi, 2E's and 1S - and you can guess which one kept going in for rattles...

May be some people are fussier than others...dunno - but there are good cars and bad cars in all marques...
