Chrome Exhaust Trim

Recommended Posts

I noticed that the chrome exhaust trim is missing from my IS200 Sport. Presumably it has been half-inched at some point.

I see from other threads that it may be possible to get one from a Lexus dealer, depending if they still have them (since it's been discontinued).

Might be a stupid question, but how easy are these to fit ? Do they just slip on and then are tightened with a screw or similar ?

you'll be very lucky to find one now as they were discontinued over two years ago now. This was because cars produced after 2001 had a factory polished stainless steel pipe on the exhaust.

The accessory chrome add on tip was held on to the pipe underneath by a small grub screw which was tightened using an allen key

My exhaust tip isn't chromed and it's a 2001 SE model, or does the chrome only come with the sport? Maybe my exhaust is so dirty the chrome isn;t even visible lol.....mind i have never ever cleaned or attemped to clean the end of my exhaust.

from the end of 2001 all IS's should have a standard back box which has a polished stainless steel tailpipe, when i had mine it looked like a normal pipe as it had never been cleaned, but with a bit of metal polish and some elbow grease it came clean.

ok, I checked with my dealer. I found out that the part number in the pinned thread is wrong, it should be GBNGA-5S016, not GBNGA-55016.

However, they did a search across all UK dealers and couldn't find anyone who had one :(

Anyone got any suggestions for an alternative, e.g. a third-party alternative that looks very similar and is decent quality (e.g. won't go a funny colour after being used for 5 mins) ?

Here's an alternative... Clean the exhaust pipe and then apply a liberal amount of Tcut to it and let it dry. Do it again if it's streaky.

What you get is a matt off-white effect - like a powder-coated heat resistant paint finish.

It looks good - to my eye.

Sad but true....

Good luck

jack

PS - you can do it to the insude of the pipe too.
