I've got the opposite.. it's my Dad

I used to have a Civic VTi in Red, Kitted out and dropped to the ground.. he use to drive that around complaining as watch out for pot holes, bumps etc..

When i got the IS, he never got out of it :o .. sying it's smooth n quite etc.. Then i put H&R Springs in.. the HKS Hiper and the ICE install.. he keeps sayin i have ruined a destroyed a nice gentlemans car. They don't realise these necessaties.. :yahoo:..

He does'nt drive it much now.. Although i caught chillin out in my car on sunday nite with the guys...:lol: i was with my mate down town and saw this IS coming up road not realising it was mine (as i left it at home).. All fun though..

nope......

Well.. .that is to say, I haven't noticed any... and I doubt my friends and family would dare critise my pride and joy...

It's a shame this wasn't going to be a discussion on parents as passengers.. would've been veeeeeery interesting

My mum totally freaks out with my driving... I guess hitting 3 figures on the speedo isn't a clever thing to do

Then again... my dad is always telling me to do some lethal over-taking manoever or to speed up.....

Which parent do I listen to??? I get so confused !!!

mom is ok with me, she says im an excellent driver although she does get scared sometimes for silly reasons but doesnt say anything jus holds the door handles

dad though is always telling me how to drive, always about my speed.

i dnt drive fast wen he's following me or im following him though.

dont drive fast wen i have passengers anyways, done it once before and could of been very very very bad, wont do it again ever

I took my mother and father in law out for a ride in my old Civic VTi when I first got it. My father in law stupidly asked exactly what the VTEC did. I knew that saying it altered the timing of the engine by way of an electrically operated solenoid which connected the main rocker arms to a third that switched the cam profile to one that had a longer opening duration and lift to create an air swirl in the cylinders would have been like trying to explain how the Honda VTEC system worked to my mother and father in law. So instead I chose a more practical demonstration by selecting a lower gear (2nd) and then VTEC'ing it along a nice twisty road. It was fun to watch my mother in law fumble around in the back of the car trying to find something to hold onto :yahoo:

My father in law usually has his car in 5th gear by the time he's reached 15MPH so it came as quite a shock to him that you can rev a car past 1000RPM!

Rule of thumb test (not with sport shocks though).

Push down on wing, it should rise and then dip slightly and settle. If you go in, have a cup of tea, watch Top Gear, come out and it's still impersonating Zebedee, then you gotta problem.

Note:

Might have slightly exaggerated the duration of time a kna**ered shock will bounce for. Just remember - push, rise, dip and settle.

When you have parents (or other older folk) in the car, you should really drive according to their comfort levels and not your own - if only to keep the peace :P

And not ALL mothers would react in the same way! :D

When I first started driving, my Dad was a nut-case, he had a 2.8 capri, and screwed it everywhere he went... My Mum was a terrible passenger.. very jumpy...

My Dad now, at 50 has turned into a right old dear, and always complains I'm driving too fast (75!!! on motorway), and panics if I get within 100 metres of the car in front... This from a guy that did 125mph on the M6 when I was trying to follow him in a 1.3 escort!

If your car is really bouncy then your shocks are not doing their job of dampening out the bounce. This often happens when someone installs stronger, shorter aftermarket springs without also installing high performance shocks.

OTOH, shocks can fail. The oil leaks out and you have no more dampening. Then it's almost like riding on springs with no shocks.

The test is to bounce each corner of the car, one corner at a time. Get it really bouncing and then let go. The car should bounce no more than 1 1/2 times after you stop.

Parent's have to be the worst things in cars...

Finally got my mother in the car with the roof off for the first time last time she was over (they live aborad) which shut her up (I think) as you could hear the induction kit and exhaust roaring way :) Father thinks I'm thrashing it too much if I hit 4.5k on the rev's (it goes to 7250).....

When I grew up they alwasy said the person behind the weheel is the person in control of the car....

I bet they wish they never said that so much now :lol::lol:
