Auto Box Oil

Recommended Posts

The only thing i have not done to the car, fluid wise, is change the oil in the auto box. I have checked the level from the stick in the engine bay and its still red after 100k.

Is there an easy way to change this? I can manage draining it as the drain plug is easy to get to but i believe its hard to get to the top up plug to get the new stuff back in.

For the hassle of doing this, does it make sense getting a garage to do it?

Hi,personally I would get a garage to do it as you are also going to have to change the auto gear box filter as well(that is if you want it done properly)just as each time you change your engine oil you change the oil filter.

Not entirely sure, but I remember reading that you can fill the IS200 auto box from the dip stick tube. May take a while, but easier than scrambling around down below.

Was thinking of doing mine next year when the weather improves.

There is an oil strainer within the gearbox belly pan as with most auto gearboxes. You will need to drain the oil, then remove the auto gearbox belly pan. In there is a magnet that will need cleaning off and the oil strainer that can be replaced if required. Upon reasembly you will need a replacement gasket for the belly pan.
