Been doing some research into this myself.

I have 245 50 17's on mine at present and I reckon they run ok with just minor 'tramlining' but then I have the Bridgestone Potenza runflats on at present. Very good tyre, bit hard and a little nosier than other brands but very pricy.

I would say its the tyre composition and profile that improves ride rather than tyre width.

When I replace mine next I am going to go for 235 45 17's, most likely Contisports which is the size I have on my spare set of wheels that I use in the winter. The tyres on them at present are a Michelin brand and they are so quiet and the ride not too harsh and thats a lesser profile than the 50 profile Bridgstones.

Just as an aside I had 245 40 18 front and 275 35 18 rear on my Mk1 GS300 and the ride with Contisports was phenominal, shame it only had a straight six motor and not a V8, next to my Mk IV LS it was the best drivers car I have ever owned.

That sounds a little expensive though Fulda's get very good reviews.

Aside from Conti's I really rate Falkens which Camskill were selling for around £95 (fitted I think) here in England.

I expect you pay a little more due to shipping costs.

ye must ask them about them , i have got all my tyres here for years , they deal with performance cars and recomended the Kummos for exeptional grip and holding , will have a word.

ive not got dhp wheels,i run 245 55 17 on mine, i have continentals contisport on front,and new michelin pilots supemacy i think on rear they are really quiet no road noise,no tramlining,and good on uneven roads. its really like a magic carpet ride

Hey, that's interesting, with a 55 profile does your speedo read correct speed.

Probably neglible error over reading.

I believe the 245 50 17 combination gives correct rolling radius for 17 inch wheels.

Its an option worth exploring though as a slightly bigger tyre on a 17 inch wheel will fill wheel arches better.

i hav'nt checked the speedo properly,but it do'esnt seem a long way out,and i like the looks does fill the wheelarches and gives a bit more clearance over speedbumps ,cos the spoiler can be very vunerable to those,ive been very pleased with them

I currently run Falken 912's 235/55 x17's on my DHP wheels, previously used 235/50's as a first replacement of the 245 Pirellis.

The 50 series were too low profile resulting in speedo being well out (not very accurate in the first place), but the 55 series tyres give better accuracy (still over reads slightly).

After 6000 miles on my current set of Falkens, I reckon the rears will be done in 2,000 miles. This seems usual, as my first set disappeared quickly too.

However, they do provide excellent grip are quiet and don't really tramline much. Even though the Pirellis that were on the car when I got it were pretty poor in the wet, they at least lasted 10,000 miles.

I'm really not sure what to go for in the tyre department now, and I really wouldn't like to pay nearly £200 for a tyre than didn't wear well. Falkens are around £121 fitted just now (Blackcircles) but you can get them supply only for just over £100 if you have your own fitter.

I don't drive the car hard, so what do others get out their tyres - be honest now lol

DHPs do seem to eat tyres ...... the standard LS400 gently wears the 225 x 60 x 16 tyres at an economic rate methinks

I cant believe that Plastic Orange gets such poor mileage out of the Falkens that I run on. My last Falken tyres did just over 37K and if I had got less than that I would have been disappointed. I can only assume that your car needs to have its geometry set up on the laser ramp which I had done over a year ago and you wouldn't believe the difference in ride quality.

There was recently another member that had the same problem with poor tyre mileage, I don't know what the outcome of that was but its in the archives.

Less than 10K out of a good quality tyre is just not acceptable.
