Is200 Headlight Cleaning.

Recommended Posts

Just noticed the headlights of my IS200 (2000) have started to go a little cloudy. They feel a little tacky to the touch. I've tried Jif and a variety of kitchen cleaners but no use. Anybody have a similar problem and cured it?

TIA.

I tried toothpaste. Worked ok. But best result ive had is with Autoglym SRP suprisingly even though it says not to use on plastic. Have to top it up every now and again. Really give it some elbow grease when doing it

Pete, just thought I'd share: I used to buff my headlights with SRP too. And like you said, I needed to reapply it every so often as it would haze up at certain spots, most notably the area where the dipped light beam falls on the lens. I think it may have something to do with the filler on SRP not agreeing to heat + plastic (maybe).

I've had no such occurance with Brasso though. I gave them a rub and finished off with a thin layer of HD wax, and my headlights never needed doing for a while now :)

Funny you should say this. I noticed only a few days ago that this happened, it looked aweful. So re applied and is looking good again. It never accured to me the SRP was giving it this effect, so thanks. Will deffo be getting some Brasso or G3 then, prob before 24th ;)

Just a quick note, that a local garage helped me out with a couple of dabs of rubbing compound G3 and much elbow grease and water did the job. :)
