Turbo Timers

Fed up with having to sit in the car like a dummy for 2 mins waiting for the turbos to cool down after playing.

I want to get a turbo timer but i have also spotted someone talking about an Alarm system that has a turbo timer built in... does anyone know which alarm this is?

Also which are the best turbo timers for the money?

hmm yeah... did think that...

i take it if i was to make sure i drive real slow about a mile away from my house it would have more chance to cool down!

Matt C.. do you have any advice?

I am obviously making sure i preserve the turbos

the lenth of tyime to allo cool down depends on driving

if you just pootled to the shops, home from mothers, or done normal driving then your only really looking at 30 secs.at idle to 1 min max

if you have nailed it from london to B-mouth, then your still only looking at 2 mins maximum

there are many types of turbo timers.

In France, the only alarm that does it is Beeper Alarm A2001 Boomerang, you can tune it to choose the time that the engine has to run before being turn off when you leave the car. It also automatically closes the doors while driving and shut the windows when you lock the car. It is 455€ without installation (approx. £320)

Ahhh, I fondly remember this when I used to own a Renault 5GT Turbo (ahem) ... beat all my mates in the race to the pub, then have to sit in the car park and idle the darned thing for a minute, while they all arrived and went in!

Seems Blitz & HKS amongst others, do turbo timers. Any of these links help? (Many foreign, but might give some ideas)...

Any Clifford G4 series alarm has bulit in timers which installation companies use as turbo timers.

The only problem with this is that the desired set time is difficult to change once set up. you can have between 03 sec to as long as you like... 3 mins to 20 even. But unless you learn the programming guide it's not changed quickly.

How it works though is when the car is running at end of your journey, you hit one of the remote buttons before you switch off the engine and exit the car. Hey presto, cars still running and you can still arm the alarm...

Seems a lot of hassle to me, i have a 1980 924 Turbo and due to the lag you could keep the turbo from spooling up fully by keeping it below 3500rpms but if i had been for a blast i would always slow down for the last few minutes of the journey and then leave the car running for about 20secs when stationary.

You may find its possible to duct air in the direction of the turbo's with some flexible ducting, i did this on mine as Porsche in their wisdom decided to place the turbo on the same side as the exhaust manifold :o
