  1. Hi All I've decided to post another Mod for under £10. After getting my alloys back from being refinished in Shadow Chrome the silver Wheel caps didn't quite look right on the car. I have seen that the IS-F has back centers with the graphite wheels which I think looks pretty good, So I started to look around the internet to buy some of these and the only place I could get them was from the USA for £100 for a set! So here's the cheap fix! You will need: Can of Gloss Black spray paint Drill and 6mm Drill bit Scotch-bright pad cleaning spirit news paper or painting paper Super glue 1. Removing the silver Lexus badge. place the badge upside down on a covered surface to avoid any damage to the badge. carefully drill out the tabs holding the badge in place, don't drill too far the plastic is quite thin, just remove the heads. Once the heads have been drilled off you should be able to push the silver badge out of the center cap. 2. Prep for paint. Using the Scotch pad key up the surface and edges of the center caps until you can see that there are tiny scratches across the entire surface. In a clean area put paper and mark out you painting area, If you are working in a dusty environment use a hoover or air compressor to clean the area before hand to avoid getting any dirt in your paint. With cleaning spirit and a cloth or tissue wipe the surfaces of the center caps clean and place them in the painting area. 3. Painting. Ensure you shake your can of paint well before use, to ensure a even and good coverage dust the paint over the center caps gradually. If you hit the caps too heavy with the paint you will end up with paint running and an uneven paint job. Once you are done painting leave the paint to dry. 4. Reassembly. once the paint has totally dried flip the center caps and apply a small dab of glue into the back of the holes where the silver logo studs sit. Place the logos back into the caps and allow the glue to dry. Once everything has dried add the center caps back to your car :) Thanks for reading, I hope you found this useful. 3. Would Lexus subscribe to the Top Gear kids show magazine? Clarkson is an "oaf" who heads a show about cars that very few of us will be able to afford in our lifetime .... Didn't see him put this around the track with the more "expert" driver Stig behind the wheel or even try to explain away not doing so ... scared? ... or did I fall asleep at that point? Don't think we will ever see the track time as he will be eating his words.

  5. Jeremy Clarkson hates most cars that costs less than £100k, especially if they have a Lexus badge. Apart from the LFA, I don't think he has ever had anything nice to say about the brand. Top Gear is utter contrived rubbish now, and last night I found myself hoping that Hammond would get mauled by a grizzly, and Clarkson and May would get marooned in a snow drift, and perish from hypothermia. The show now has very little to do with cars, and more to do with three middle aged men acting like silly schoolboys, obsessed with their own genitalia. My money is on Clarkson making more inappropriate comments, and being sacked before too long. As cars are the second biggest purchase most of us make, there really should be a decent weekly TV show that looks at ORDINARY cars in a sensible and informative way.

  7. I'm failing to see the point of your post. Firstly, I own a BMW M4, fully specced, and the M4 and RCF retail about the same around £65k. Maybe the extra weight is the reason the RCF feels that bit more solid, firm and planted on the road. I don't have kids nor do I ferry folk around, so the space in the back is of little importance to me. But I draw a close here - "Forget the brand" - well, that's where you still have opportunity. You see, it's the brand, their philosophy, their respect for people, their JD Power Survey 'Best Customer Service' awards year after year that say so much more than owning a stripped-out track car for the road. The RCF is beautifully isolated from the outside world as a function of strategically placed sound deadening materials, and they come with some mass. My brand new M4 has 'been in' on a number of occasions already for exhaust valve, ECU, rear brake disc, whining from the e/g bay, broken interior component issues - that's more than my 5 previous Lexus vehicles put together! And I'm not biased - I've owned V8 M3, 335d M Sport Coupe, 323i Coupe, 328i Coupe, 330i Coupe, Alpina B3 BiTurbo, Alpina B3s BiTurbo... so, forget the brand? I think you perhaps don't get what 'Lexus' is all about; it's an experience, a good one, not just a car...

  9. hi all, i thought i'd give you another update regarding my car insurance renewal. as usual, as i do every year, i ran my details in some comparison websites to get an idea of insurance. i obviously had a quote of £800 something (can't remember) from my previous insurer. as i ran my details and declared my incidents, i got quotes half that price!!! intrigued i called up the company and spoke to them. although it took around 40 minutes to make sure they captured all my details etc, they quoted me £425!!! so i called up my current insurer and asked if they could match it. they said no. so i asked them what my previous years quote was. £575 the replied. so i asked if my incidents made a difference this year. they said most probably. i phoned up the new insurer and double checked all my details including above incident. "its still showing as £425 sir". i asked why are they so competitve. the agent said they are a new insurance company started in 2014, maybe thats why, but he doesn't really know. anyway, i signed up with them. the insurers name....don't laugh...sure thing! insurance (underwriters allianz).

  10. Been a Lexus forum clearly people here wouldn't like Clarksons review of the RCF.... BUT, he does make a point, the RCF had a kerb weight of 1800kg, which means a real life gross weight of probably 2 tons!! The up and coming GSF weighs the same....that has much more space inside for people and luggage...and given similar powe/weight ratio I suspect wouldn't be much slower if at all. Lexus KNOW how to make lighter cars, the IS300H, despite been a hybrid only weighs about 100kg more than the equivalent 3 series. Than there's the price, the RCF is no cheaper than a M3, and though BMW isn't doing offers on the M3 at the moment eveyone is waiting for the 15-20% off list price deals to come out....So ask your selfs, forget the brand, but would you pay £10-15k more for a car that weighs more, has a worse power/weight ratio, and is less practical?? BTW: I'm no BMW fan boy. We've dropped £35k on a brand new IS300H which I love. The IS300H makes my BMW 335i look very old...and though I always said I'll replace the 335i with a Tesla S, if Lexus do an hybrid GSF, I would find it hard to resists :D But on the RCF....Sorry Lexus but you can do better, a lot better :(

  11. I feel the same about Minis, in particular the van version. I had a Saturday job in the sixties, delivering meat in a brand new minivan. I was only in the damned thing for four hours, but even as a reasonably athletic 17 year old, I was bent double by the time I finished my shift. Much preferred the Viva based Bedford that preceded it.

  14. Subtle improvement for under £10 - Brake Calipers I've just sent off my Alloys to be refurbished and left my IS250 on axle stands on my driveway looking rather sad. With the wheels off I noticed how shabby my brake calipers were looking and I thought I could make some cheap improvements while the wheels were off. I started with a good scrub with a stiff brush and some lightly soaped hot water, I then allowed everything to dry off before wiping everything with a cloth to remove any final debris. Here is what I was left with. I think decided to pickup some gun metal grey spray paint from my local auto shop, after some quick masking and a light dusting the calipers looked like this. I then thought It would be nice to have the Lexus branding on the Calipers, so I printed the logo onto some card and cut it out carefully with a craft knife to make a stencil. I then used the stencil to dust some sliver spray paint I had going spare over the calipers to get the finished product like so. Thanks for reading, I hope you found this useful. Let me know what you think. I'm also going to make some cheap improvements in the engine bay and I will be sure to post on here when I have done them. Thanks George I regularly post updates on what i'm doing with my cars on Instagram @Gtownsman
