  2. What's the point of anything? This is just about having some fun in a big V8. No animals were harmed during filming :)

  3. Well done Stu - I think it was worth the hassle given the figures you quoted. I will go down the private route too and will hope the lure of a full years mot, 12 months warranty remaining and the 60k service just completed will mean it will appeal to a wide audience and hopefully they won't all be time wasters. 911 would be a great move and one I may look at myself. Thanks for all your contributions, they certainly helped me before I made the decision to buy my ISF.

  4. Looks reasonable to me,Blueprint hoses are around £22.00 each on Amazon for some reason there are no stainless steel braided hoses showing for the 95-97 LS400. Mine's also in for the MOT in the morning.

  5. Hi, I believe it is a wire mesh/screen in the Gen II RX's not sure about the later cars tho. The mesh is much less prone to blocking and is more of a tea strainer than a filter, so has no real maintenance interval. If for some reason you had to have the gearbox sump off, you'd probably change it just because, otherwise they are usually left alone. Interestingly, there is a couple of magnets in the bottom of the gearbox sump, unsure why the drain plug isn't magnetic as at least you could of cleaned it when you change ATF fluid... Hey ho!

  7. Ah well, it now says "shipped"! So I presume that when they say "ships in 7 days", this means "gets shipped within at least 7 working days of the order being placed", or "takes an estimated 7 days to arrive once it's actually been shipped". Clearly I was being naive in thinking that it would take 7 days in total from the order date! Anyway, the parts are being sent directly to the garage, so it will be interesting to see who gets the ransom note.

  8. Sorry for the delay in replying guys, still away on business! I have managed to call the Lexus dealer though and order 11 liters of the pre-mixed red Toyota Long Life Coolant as advised in the user guide. It's probably going to be a couple of weeks until i get round to this - and will probably get my local Indy to do it as I'm super busy with work at the mo. Will let you know how I get on. Cheers again.

  9. There's no inherent reason why stainless exhausts should be noisier than mild steel ones - it's just that stainless ones are often made from much thinner steel than mild steel ones. Likewise with welds - thick stainless can be welded (by an expert) just as well as mild steel. My MX-5 has a Jackson Racing stainless exhaust - MoT testers often say it is the best exhaust (and the most neatly welded) they have ever seen. It has been on the car for the best part of 15 years. Expensive (for a MX-5 exhaust - not in comparison with Lexus ones!). A good stainless exhaust fabricator can make an exhaust to your spec - including the noise it makes. Quieter than standard, just like stock or 'sporty' - up to you and price (although finding a good fabricator may not be easy). If you are anywhere near Macclesfield I can recommend JP Exhausts - I've had various bits and pieces made there - always excellent workmanship. I've often seen Ferraris and such in there having custom exhausts made - usually people wanting quieter than standard 'cos stock Ferrari exhausts are LOUD!

  11. If there is a castle nut, I think the purpose of the split pin is to prevent the nut working loose. A nyloc nut (a nut with a plastic insert which grips the thread) or a spring washer under the nut are alternatives to prevent a nut working loose. One way of stopping a ball joint moving when trying to undo the nut is to place a trolley jack (or even a scissor jack) underneath the ball joint and jack it up a bit. This makes it harder for the ball joint to rotate. If access is limited, a block of wood on the jack will have the same effect.

  12. That's your view buddy and not a view I share. I'm not after an IS-F or an IS350. If i was, I would have bought one. I'm not modding my IS250 because I want it to look like an IS-F, if that was the case I would have got the full IS-F bodykit. I liked the rear-end of the IS-F when it came out and that's when and why I only did the rear-end conversion back then. I've owned my IS250 since it was 12 months old, I am happy with it and have been spending money on it gradually, nothing that kills the bank. I also have a 2013 RX450h. I mod for my own pleasure, not for resale value. A car is always depreciating, unless it's a classic or antique. I didn't buy it back in 2007 with the thought of selling it in mind. The pleasure and satisfaction of the comments I get on the road wherever I go is way worth the effort and money. For me modding is not only creating something to my own taste but also a huge learning platform. I cannot emphasize enough how much knowledge i've gained from modding. This in itself is invaluable and only experience can make you better at what you do (practice makes perfect). I haven't just been modding my Lexus, past few years i've been busy working with "RenaultSport" cars and have been selling a custom made product by me to customers worldwide (mainly Australia, Singapore, Spain, France, Malaysia and UK) Through this I made a profit in the region of £35,000 in a span of 8 months. I see that as an achievement and would not have been possible without the continuous trial and errors of modding. Furthermore, I've also been approached by "Internet Brands, Inc." (The company that runs ClubLexus) to write how-to articles on my mods for a new how-to platform they are launching. This is something i have done and been paid for each article. Being asked to write paid articles for Internet Brands was a pleasure and gave me great satisfaction. This achievement is invaluable to me and was through all the exposure I got through my published mods.

  13. The tests show that it does very well indeed. Would be a great tyre if it works as it should. I wonder if the new Michelin tyre on the RX will be any good. Actually, I wonder if it'll even come to the UK! We seem to always run on either dunlops or bridgestones although Yokohama is coming on some models now I very much doubt it'll be an OEM fitment, but Michelin are expanding the range in 2016 so hopefully RX sizes will be coming then.

  14. ^ Snow should be fine it's ice that causes the biggest problems with SUV's because of the raised centre of gravity. The worst scare I had was in a Range Rover a couple of years ago running on almost new Conti cross contacts , normally a good all weather tyre but absolutely hopeless in hard packed ice. I was crawling downhill on a busy road near a school when a couple of kids ran out from behind a parked car I tried to brake but knew the car would take off, fortunately I was able to slide it away from the kids and into the parked car causing only minor damage but I tell you my heart missed a beat!!!. Having previously thought about winter tyres this was the wake up call to fit them, I phoned my local tyre fitter and he put on 4 Vredestein Wintrac 4Xtremes that afternoon I then tried the same hill and was amazed at the difference. I have fitted winter tyres to all my vehicles since then and although we haven't had the severe weather like we had in 2010 I just feel happier knowing that if and when we do then my car is as safe as I can make it.

  15. Hi Hank, Im pretty sure there is a known weakness with this gearbox ( think I read it on US Lexus forum) , and from what I recall they advised changing the gearbox oil every 50k, this is why I had mine done, no other reason, as my gearbox is fine! BUT, since talking to a mate of my brothers who runs a Auto gearbox repair shop, who said to me quote" if people changed there auto gearbox oil regularly I would nt have enough work to earn a living wage" Also if you watch programmes like Wheeler Dealers, Ed China always changes the Auto Gearbox Oil as soon as he gets an auto in! I remember a Jag on there that wasnt shifting well, a new filter and oil change sorted it! I would ring Lexus UK help line, they really should nt be able to refuse a perfectly reasonable request as you have made. Cheers Jason
