  1. Quick update. Thanks in no small part to the help and advice of members here, I picked up my new green/tan LC Convertible yesterday with my desired wheels. I'm no photographer but the pic below gives an indication despite dank conditions. I'm told it's a 1/1 in the UK and Europe due to the wheels and it even has the bespoke build badge. It really is a lovely thing and I couldn't be happier so far!

  2. I wrote to both the President and Managing Director and Head of UK Operations (Director of Lexus UK) and the Chief Operating Officer Toyota Motor group Europe on 12th March and today received a letter back stating in writing that my model of NX300h 'IS NOT susceptible to this attack method as the technology which enables CAN Bus theft is not on your car, due to its production date'. My car is a 2017 Plate model F Sport with Premium pack. The letter was from Stephen Hinshelwood, Executive Office, Toyota (GB) PLC. I'm still going to remove both inner splash guards to have a look for myself and probably make some plates up to cover whatever I find. I'm also toying with having the attached made and fitting it to each side under the car, where they attack.

  3. Yes, I know who they are owned by. If we were all wired the same and did the same, wouldn't it be a boring existence? There is no right or wrong, we generate income and have the freedom to spend how we want. I suppose because I had jobs with company cars for a long time - often changing at shorter intervals than 2 or 3 years, I have that mindset. As I said before, I am now looking at retirement and whilst I still can, I am changing. It may be that I end up keeping this one for many years, but I doubt it.

  4. Hi, I've had my 1998 century for about 3yrs now. Had it fully serviced by Toyota (they loved working on it) have only had to change the starter motor. Once you've driven one, there's no going back. It puts a smile on everyone's face. Buy one! Enjoy! They are works of art that need preserving. Thinking of selling mine in the summer to get a newer one.

  6. So sorry to hear of your loss, Alan. I can understand how the diversion of a new car could be a welcome distraction at such a difficult time. 🙁

  9. Yesterday we took a 120 mile test drive in an LBX ( Premium Design) ….some commentary……… 1. Handling was actually much better than I thought, went into and out of corners very well. They have done something to the suspension which makes it very appealing. 2. Overall fit and finish inside looked very good quality.A well put together vehicle. It felt like a vehicle that would be good enough and comfortable enough for a longish journey, quite a nice place to be. 3. The interchange between the combustion engine and the battery was flawless. We were stuck in a traffic tailback and all of this was covered in battery. 4.The vehicle looks very good although I’m not a Lexus aficionado it feels like they have had their A design team on this project. 5. One critical comment would be on more demanding Scottish A class hilly roads it does feel a little underpowered or putting it another way if you want to access more power you need to rev the engine quite high +4.5k revs. I presume this is a feature of eCVT. Anyway not sure if this detail helps anyone. I’m trying a Lexus since I have had loads of German cars and apart from Porsche I think their quality is going south. This is a daily driver type vehicle. Was going to get a Takumi Design but the suede looks doomed to be attacked by the sticky fingers of my grandchildren. I have ordered a Premium Design Plus ….(wife likes the two tone look), delivery early May. Insurance will be via NFU as per my previous thread.

  10. I do find with the RX that despite all the cameras and colourful lines parking is still tricky due to its length. There’s a surprising amount of space used at the front end of the car which makes parking in multi story parking spaces interesting. Earlier this week I reversed into a space until the braking warning stopped the car and was told by my wife that the nose was sticking out by about 3 feet (I assumed she meant the car not me!). It was due to the concrete supporting pillars so I moved to a more open part of the car park and just managed to get parked with a minor overhang of the marked space at the front. Best wishes for enjoying your new RX, I look forward to seeing your future posts

  12. A quick update to say that the car arrived and collected. It’s lovely and enjoyable to drive. Much more fun than previous one (UX) and I should say technology/gadgets improved a lot since 2020 when I bought UX.

  14. FWIIW I have never ridden on any heated seat that did not toast my backside within a few minutes. I think this is one of those common sense things. When the heated seat really isn't working right a blind man on a fast horse can tell. In which case your dealership needed a boot up the backside, because from your statement above what you have got is not fit for purpose under any test of reasonableness.

  15. Today the mileage for my 2004 SC430 reached 10,000 miles. It will also be 20 years since it was first registered on the 1st April 2004. So that is an average of 500 miles per year and I have done a little more than that since purchasing it from the first owner when it had only done 7600 miles. In my ownership it has been as good as gold needing only a new battery. I am hoping that driving it a bit more the headlight levelling system will sort itself out as today it was back on at first but then went out after a couple of miles and stayed off. I do have an annoying little rattle which seems to be coming from the roof behind the passenger seat which when the weather gets better I will look to solve. I am looking forward to many more years of ownership.

  16. Does anyone know if it’s normal for comparison websites and insurers to be so slow to add new cars to their quotation systems? Or is it just the likes of Lexus that insurers are so reticent to quote for? I have previously bought cars in their 2nd or 3rd year of production and never had a problem getting dozens of competing insurance offers.

  17. If I get in my ES without my phone then it thinks I'm a Guest so I guess won't register any trips. I would think you need to add your wife as a second driver and use her phone to register the account on the multimedia screen.

  19. Trying to capture the questions. 1. AWD……cannot see the reason why one would need it. The grip and road handling was very good it was a very wet day and the handling was very good as a FWD model…the AWD is SLOWER….a red line for me. 2. Road noise….well what I can tell you it is road surface dependant. A good road surface meant low road noise…a poorer quality surface higher road noise. It’s not a Bentley I found the refinement very good for a small car. I did not hear any appreciable wind noise but it was a dreadful day of rain….and there was no missing hearing that ! 3. Car sits well on the motorway, stable and secure but it’s not a BMW/Porsche which are specifically designed for Autobhan unrestricted lane driving. But at our legal speeds very adequate. 4. Engine power shows up as an issue on say a Scottish A class road with severe incline etc the engine needs worked to perform and thats when the revs increase as mentioned earlier. This for me is a feature not a bug. If the model sells well I would not be surprised if Lexus get a higher power model in the line up…if I like this one enough I will have one of them ! Disclosure is my first Lexus…..so apologies for any errors ……comments welcome….J

  23. Whilst sales were not helpful, the Lexus Chester service desk were all over it. I phoned to book an MoT service and they said they were fielding lots of calls after the BBC exposure. They have a metal plate solution for the RX (or NX, I can't recall) and are awaiting parts. They are doing those first and awaiting news from Lexus HQ about other models' vulnerability and fixes.

  26. No Len, I am getting a different colour although the comment about colour change was a joke about ensuring the neighbours know I've got a new car. You are never going to win buying and selling cars (sometimes even if you are a dealer)! I'm getting a new 24 reg one. I am fortunate in being able to do it, I bought it in February when there was an offer on, got both a discount and a good price for the p/x (£6k better than WBAC), although I didn't shop around. Also, they have transferred my pre-paid service contract so I've got 2 years with only RFL & insurance to pay (touch wood). 🫰 This may be my last 'family-size' car, so I'm just kicking that decision a bit further into the long grass. In typing this, Len, you've made me think - maybe I should cancel 😂

  28. Will certainly keep in touch with the NX forum! Thanks for all your comments over the last couple of years and your analysis on EV range. Delivery scheduled for next week. I attended the Lexus Edinburgh VIP event last month with the possibility of changing to a NX450h+ F-sport however the colour/trim options available didn't suit despite a great offer on a Graphite/Black & white trim combo. I just didn't want another Graphite NX having chosen that for my last two. Was leaving the showroom content in keeping the NX for at least another 6 months but stopped to have a seat the RX on display. Was suitably impressed, got figures compiled and was surprised that the monthly payment was only c£12 more expensive for a RX450h+ Premium Plus with panoramic roof versus the NX450h+ F-Sport with sunroof. Having had the panoramic roof on my first NX300h I was disappointed that it wasn't an option when I ordered my current NX, however if what I read is correct it will soon be offered on the NX.

  34. I sent an email to Lexus Milton Keynes regarding Watchdog this morning. Perhaps Lexus are waking up. Here is part of their response regarding my 2018nx. “There are plates that can be fitted by us on the RX model and in the correspondence we have had this morning from Lexus GB the other models have their measures in development and we will be informed as soon as they available and I will be in contact to get you booked in they are anticipating this to be towards the end of April”

  37. Similar thing happened to me, swiped rear drive side door with dents and scuffs, my insurers tried to write it off but other parties insurer (Motabiltiy) approached me and advised if I got a repair quote they'd pay me out directly for the cost, they knocked an amount off £3.3k for the estimate but got £2.5k and no write off and did a private repair myself

  38. The one show tonight (13/3) had a special on stealing Lexuses! Apparently they spoke to Lexus and Lexus confirmed that they will be releasing a software update for cars registered before 2021 that should stop the CAN bus issue. I have already contacted my Lexus dealer and will update if I have anything further. Has anyone heard anything?

  41. Actually the WLTP figure for the IS300h is pretty accurate (and all other Toyota/Lexus hybrids too), much better than the old testing methodology which the 64mpg was based on: Sadly, WLTP for EVs is not realistic.

  44. Yes they do have a strong defence nowadays, very true and absolutely necessary. I have a couple of funny, or not so funny stories - in brief: I went to a very large bank HQ for an appointment with their head of IT. I walked in the building and the security guard was busy with someone else so I passed by someone coming out who held the door open for me! I walked up to the server room where his office was. He was not in his office. He was in the bullet-proof air-conditioned glass square construction that held the main servers. I tapped on the glass and someone let me in. I stood next to the IT chief until he spotted me. You should have seen his face. He could not believe how anyone could get in. I know it was cheeky of me but I could not resist the experiment. Crazy times! Second true story: Big manufacturing company had a ransomware attack and rightly refused to pay. Worst case scenario is lose a full day's transactions ( which had an audit trail on a separate network isolated server system anyway ) and back up from a "Ghost" image and re-instate all the data from the daily back-up. The daily back-up was a series of physical tapes which were recorded and saved in rotation every night starting at 6pm. This boring repetitive task was given to a junior member of the IT team. They were very disappointed when the non-existant back-up was found on an empty tape. It had never backed up and was never tested. He just did not understand why he got an error message and thought it was just an information pop-up. Thankfully we have better ways of doing things now.🤭.

  45. I agree! My car has now arrived at long last, today I have tried numerous comparison websites and LV, Hastings, Lexus, Admiral etc. After a long and involved conversation I’ve decided to go with NFU at an eye watering £740, I’m sure the price will come down in the next few months so I’ll be keeping an eye on what’s happening and when and if the prices start to drop I’ll cancel my policy and start again. I’m collecting my LBX on Wednesday afternoon - I’m so excited and am sure it’ll be worth all the hassle… If anyone wants to try NFU give them a call 0808 189 8702, I spoke to Cammy he was very helpful.

  46. Like you say, what else would you replace an LC with? 🤔 I’ve bought a little warm BMW to daily….. probably faster than the LC 😀. The LC will remain in the garage and only be used occasionally. Not driven the LC for three weeks, then started it yesterday. God…… it’s so loud for a stick car cold start. 😂

  47. No they haven't. For older vehicles they are installing trackers and immobilisers and newer ones have updated firmware in the main body ECU to detect hacks - that isn't anything like implementing encryption across the entire CAN bus.

  48. I'm not really talking about individual dealer standards, more about Lexus as a brand and head office policies that the dealerships need to follow. I think it was back in 2001 when I first purchased an approved used Lexus. Back then an independent RAC inspection had to be performed which found every stone chip and mark that had to be correctly before it could be sold, alloys refurbs, the next service carried out, tyres with minimum of 4mm or possibly 6mm of thread, full Lexus service history etc. Now an official used vehicle may not have full Lexus service history, it won't have the next service carried out unless it is due within 2,000 miles, bodywork damage is down to private negotiation with the typical attitude that it's a used car so there will be some stone chips, scratches and wheel scuffs. Recalls once came with a bottle of Champagne as a sorry for inconvenience, now you might get some fuel if the dealer doesn't pocket that money (several people have posted here they have not received any fuel). The move to centralised PDIs where cars are now handed over with over inflated tyres due to a lack of attention to detail. Used warranties that over the years cover less and less, and owners having to fight harder to get things replaced - now with the attitude of having to wait for something that is clearly failing to get so severe that it causes a breakdown or MOT failure. The Relax warranty might be 'free' but in reality the servicing costs have increased substantially above inflation over years and the warranty dumbed down that you are paying for it, and with no advanced warranty available for people who want the additional cover. Dealers reluctant to perform warranty work because head office won't pay them enough - the dealer is more profitable doing customer work and therefore prioritises it. Major security vulnerabilities across multiple vehicles but with a very slow, inadequate response that only address a fraction of the vehicles affected. GS F delaminating interior carbon trim pieces that Lexus in the UK blame on the owners and pretend it isn't a common issue, rather than acknowledging there is an issue affecting one of their most expensive vehicles - and where Lexus in the US replace them under warranty.

  49. Unfortunately this is on Toyota GB - they won't authorise the warranty repair, and therefore pay the dealer, unless it is a failed part. There has been a steady decline in service for years/decades. I received excellent service over 20 years ago but these days it's a fight and disappointment to get anything done and their service prices make you feel ripped off. The positive is the cars are reliable so you don't have to experience poor dealer service very often.
