  1. Spectacular piece of coincidence. The misfire was down to coil plug being adrift on coil 3. I am saying three - left bank 3 in facing the windscreen. Car was serviced about two months ago. So no ECU worries. 🙂 Interestingly now the radio is working the error for the AVC/LAN bus has gone. So without research I can only guess it has something to do with the Mark Levinson system bus. It has a Pionner headunit installed that I fitted about 2 years ago, but that uses a Lexus data converter so the Levinson system works as it should including the steering wheel buttons. Had a A/C DTC, that was logged as Historic but didnt show last scan. Also had two DTC for the oleft and right Solar sensors. Hardly surprising with the car in agarage 8 months of the year. Just taken it for the final test drive before handover and the Solar Sensor DTC has gone and taken the AC fault with it, so happy days. Will let owner use it for a week then plug in again and see if anything has occured. More info on the fault finding later. Thank you to everyone.

  2. Collected my son-in-law from a vasectomy op this morning. I think we may have a new Pothole detector! All we need is to get all the Councillors and Highways Officers to have the snip then drive them around the area. Start with the lowest paid and by the time the turn of the 'Leader' comes around the roads will be like glass!

  3. First time I have driven the SC and XK on back to back days. If I had to sum up the comparison with just one word to describe each car they would be; SC Silky XK Brutish I like both for the clear difference in driving experience.

  4. Last Autumn we did Madrid and while there got a rail card to visit some great places nearby. I would highly recommend a visit. Avila, Segovia, Toledo, Escorial, Aranjuez. 70€ for a travel pass for the week covers all of it.

  5. The car is now running. It does however have a misfire and one AVC/LAN bus is down. All systems are up, except the radio. I will do a more comprehensive report soon. Apart from the new battery and the 140A fuse, there were nine other fuses and arc damage to one the ECU plugs. One pin to be precises must have been hit with a fair bit of current. When I took the ECU out I could smell it. I am going to scope the coil triggers to see if the misfire is a FET issue or loom/coil coincidence. I do not believe the monster reverse surge would have gone through the ECU to a coil without killing the ECU forst. On inspection it looks fine inside. Anyway I have been documenting my finds so I will publish soon.

  6. If youve had your pads changed at Lexus they should have re-used the old shims. Mine used to squeal when braking and turns out the previous owner changed the brakes and didnt use the shim kits. So i bought it and got it fit but the brakes still squeal when applied. So ive learnt to ignore it and assume its the pads . Also if you can wait a bit its cheaper here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166687780944?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338365712&toolid=20006&customid=EB211510275&

  7. I did mine in carbon black there is a knack to it to be honest as well as the challenge getting the panels off.

  8. 53,738 kilometers. I think I also, found out the issue I'm having after reading different forums and videos related to my Lexus model and year. Shim kits.....Never heard of this and assumed new brakes came with this, but I guess not. https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-is-phase-3-front-brake-pad-anti-squeal-shim-kit/

  10. If you spot one you're considering, ask on here as some have been around for a while and have been looked at by members here. Also 2010+ have various differences around multimedia, body colour, mechanical diff and interior that's worth knowing. A few people on here have also gone down the import route, so that's an option too.

  11. Saga has just quoted me £1000 which is more than double I am paying at the moment with Lexus insurance £450 so be careful if you're due like me to renew. I haven't yet had my renewal come through from Lexus but will let you know when it does. I should add I have the maximum NCD and 50 years of clean driving

  12. Changed all pads and discs about six months ago so all new. The caliper slide pins are fine and move freely. I'm stumped.

  13. I can't find it on AutoTrader. I guess Malc already bought it? 🤣 Are you going for the full set Malc? Mk1, Mk2, Mk3, & Mk4?
    1 point
  14. Hi Malc, I drove it for the first time in over two months the seven miles to Clacton and back over the Marshes with quite high winds. It survived in tact though my effort to drill holes to put in a few self tapping screws got nowhere. Couldn't get any bite to the bit. Checked out this guy on you tube and he certainly gives an exhaustive challenge to discover what bit is best. He also has done the best Centre Punch. So, shortly equipped with punch and DeWalt drill bits will try again - when its warmer!!

  15. This is always a Grey Area Scott.. When not going to the Dealership.. I Have heard on occasions that Tyres being fitted at Private Garages have problems because the fitter Shall we say Does not handle the small units with the Experienced care of the Lexus Dealerships. I,m not saying this is what has happened but.. it Could be.. And These little units are expensive.. Certainly hope that is not the case and resolved Soon... Best Regards..!!

  16. When I had my new boots fitted it took almost 6 miles before the dash showed the tyre pressure. I know this because the numbers lit-up as I arrived home, 6 miles from Lexus Leicester. I think the short burn on the A6 helped!

  17. Considering it's an outside car and we've had a cold, wet and windy winter. the 10yr old CT still brushes up ok with a decent wash down. Ready to go for another year now, MOT, Major service, Lexus Roadside, new 3yr fixed price service contract and the 11th year of Relax warranty. all done and yet another year of completely trouble free motoring. This car never ceases to amaze me.

  18. The term isn't what people mainly associate it with. I quote; Badly or hastily built with materials of poor quality. The term is mid 19th century, and is sometimes said to be from the name of a firm of builders in Liverpool, or to allude to the walls of Jericho, which fell down at the sound of Joshua's trumpets. 19. The bill is always bigger than you expected. Best of luck! It's the Lexus motto - 大きいほど良い " bigger is better" especially where bills are concerned.

  20. My opinion too, Ronnie. When I was buying a new set, I asked Lexus MK if they could supply them as I was due an annual service there anyway. To my surprise, they matched my regular tyre supplier. I didn’t go with it as I was also having Alloygator rim protectors fitted. It may not be the first place anyone thinks of, but you’re quite right that it’s always worth asking them to quote.

  23. Yeah i did a lot of research on this and sounds like its normal. The ECU deliberately decides to run the engine lean to generate more heat faster. This made no sense to me as i always thought more fuel=more energy and hence more heat. But apparently that is not the case. A lean mixture generates more heat because there is a more complete burning of fuel taking place vs a rich mixture where relatively speaking more fuel is wasted also in a rich mixture the unburnt fuel conducts some of the heat away. So i guess it makes sense that under certain situations where power demand is low e.g in traffic and when the engine wants to warm up fast that the ecu decides to run it lean. Strangely i was in the same situation today but it didn't do it and everything was smooth as always. Sometime in the next few weeks I'll still clean the throttle body, MAF sensor and replace the PCV valve just for good measure. Its also strange that cars these days dont come with replaceable fuel filters. Ive seen videos of people opening up the pump assembly to get at these "lifetime" filters and what comes out is nasty.

  25. Hi John, No you can’t switch it off, it’s an inherent feature of a hybrid and how they work, the car will work out what it needs to do and when so you will find the ICE will stop and start at various times, not just when you stop at the traffic lights😀 hope that helps Kev

  26. Update: Had the new screen fitted yesterday, a date chosen to coincide with my latest hospital visit. All good and the chap at the Auto Windscreens place couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Warranted against screen or fitting defects for as long as I own the car, apparently. As an aside, the Struie road which has been closed for nearly 2 months is now open again. On the way south, I came of a downhill section with wide open sweeping curves and spotted a squad of m/bikes heading up in the opposite direction. On one left hand one I encountered a bike on my side of the road, right in the middle. They were well spaced so he couldn't have been trying to catch up with his mates, just inattention I suspect - I think they were foreigners. I can attest that the brakes and steering on the Lexus are spot on, don't know who got the bigger scare, him or me. I suspect his underwear was in a worse state than mine, though. No video clip or screenshots, as the dash-cam was at home, me having removed it from the old screen ahead of the replacement..... Further down on the A9, I passed a string of McLaren P1s heading in the other direction, all of the colours too. I made it a total of c 24 - looked to be heading for the NC500 route. Looks like the silly season is underway already.....

  28. You will probably find that a large percentage of the council tax levy is used towards funding their gold plated defined benefit pension schemes. This is one area of spend breakdown that they never provide. These schemes are so costly to keep funded that they were closed by private businesses many years ago.

  29. Only use the official Toyota grease as below. I had dealer do it a few years ago, was £100 for all slide pins.

  30. If they are making a noise when you aren't on the brakes then either the pads are worn and the audible wear indicators are scraping against the disc to warn you - but more likely your brake calliper sliding pins are seizing up and not allowing the pads to move away from the disc and so need lubricating. If you have squeal when lightly applying the brakes then the pads may be glazed over, but the OEM ones do tend to do this - replacing with EBC pads would solve that (and reduce dust).
