  1. If it was me, based on that kind of history, I would use the no quibble warrenty and have a full refund. Remember, it's your money at the end of the day and in the current economic climate, I would imagine you wouldn't have any trouble finding another GS at a Lexus dealer which hasn't had any previous problems. Jim.
  2. Evening all. My gold membership ran out on the 9/8/08. Also, everytime I post a message it says I'm still a gold member even though my gold membership has ran out. Can someone send me an email to I can renew my gold subscription for two years? Many thanks, Jim.
  3. Thanks for your replies. Nice speaking to you John. You've got a cracking looking IS. You only live a stone's throw away from me so keep an eye out for an 07 Reg Nissan Micra driving school car with "REED" stuck to a cone on the roof and it's me. Usually looking terrorfied so I'm easy to spot. Thanks again Ian for your advice. I think I will have a good go on the bonet with my polishing products I got from JAE. I'm gonna do one pannel at a time. At least then I will be able to keep the feeling in my hands after using a G220 for too long. I still think your SC was the best and shiniest car at the show and shine. I might join you next year. Depends on weather the swirl marks beat me or not. Also, I'm looking forward to having my hearing ruined by your ICE DJWozza. Sorry I couldn't hang about for the evenings entertainments. I would have loved to have busted a move to "It's Not Unusuall by Tom Jones" or even better, "You Can Leave Your Hat On". Give me a poll and some baby oil, well, I don't think I will finish that sentence. I did hear your IS from a distance and was well impressed. Damn nice car you got there too. Thanks again for an awsome day. I really enjoyed it. It was nice to see some really nicely cared for cars. I might even dig the tent out for next year. Nice to have met you all too. What a friendly bunch you all are. Jim.
  4. I know what you mean about the weather Stevieweive. I've got the sunburnt neck and face to prove that. Next year I might put the LS in for the show n shine. I'd have had a go this year but I masacerd too many flies on the way down. I was very impressed by the amount of cars there. Would liked to have seen more GS's and LS's though. Even an RX would have been nice. Thanks also to the couple who had the LPG powerd GS300. Very nice chatting to you both. Sorry but I can't remember your names though. Must be the sun stroke. Cheers again everyone for a cracking day. Jim.
  5. That's awsome news you got your car back. Now we should start a list of who wants to tear what off the theives.
  6. I know people arn't going to be back till thisevening but I would like to say thankyou to everyone for making JAE a really nice experience. I can't remember everyone's name but everyone I spoke to were friendly and I got some cracking car cleaning advice from inicoil63. If I get my LS anywhere near as good as your SC I will be happy. Thanks again to everyone and I lookforward to next year. Jim.
  7. I spend all day on the roads and I see some really amazing things. People's inability to be able to control a car safely can be very scary at the best of times and I think that speeding is only the tip of the iceberg. Also, with the highway code, it's not really the fact that it is out of date, but you have to take into account the inattentiveness of the majority of driver out there. I think their reluctance to change the distances is a reflection of how the majority of people drive out there. A relience on vehicle safety has made concentration levels in driving fall quite dramatically. Knowing that people have airbags, abs, esp, traction controll, collision avoidence etc, makes me feel nervous as they think the car will sort it out for them. My day mostly consists of me trying to explain to my pupils the dangers of speeding and the consequences of doing it. Then whilst we are doing 30mpg in a 30, being overtaken by nearly everybody, it gets very difficult to make sure that when they are out there on their own that they will do these speed limits. People are mostly led by example and no matter how much time I spend explaining about speed limits, it's obvious that when they have got their licence, a majority of them are going to be doing what the vast majority of motorists are going to be doing. That is speeding and driving badly. I would like to finish by saying the more time you spend doing the speed limits, the more it becomes the norm of your everyday driving. Before I became a driving instructor, I used to do 35 in a 30, 45 in a 40 etc and I must admit it took a bit of practice to to bring my speed down, but once I cracked it, if I find myself going slightly over the limit, it doesn't feel right so it's not impossible to switch it around. If you were to take an advanced driving test, either the IAM or the Rospa, you would be expected to drive at speed limits where it is safe and not to go over them. Even in overtaking situations. It can be done, it is just weather or not you have a resistance to making a positive change to your driving or not. I'll call it a day now as I could go on for hours about it. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and I appologise for sounding a bit teacherish about this but road safety has been a passion of mine for a few years now. Jim.
  8. Try and think of this. If you are travelling at 30mph and stomp on your brakes, the highway code says it will take you 23 metres to stop. So, if you have someone walk out infront of you from 23 metres the speed you will be doing by the time you reach them your speed will be 0 mph. If your travelling at 35 mph, by the time you have coverd 23 metres, by the time you come into contact with the person infront of you, you will still be travelling at 21 mph as apposed to 0mph. The weakest link in any safety situation in terms of driving is the person behind the wheel. When your in a 30mph limit, try and think of why it is set at 30mph. When you think about what could go wrong and what you might do in that situation, it might just knock that 5mph off your speed. And always remember, it's only going to go as fast as your pushing that accelerator pedal down. I know in terms of refienment in modern cars can make you feel somewhat distant from the driving experience, and owning an LS430 I can vouch for this, but you have a speedometre that indicates how fast you are going. The simple answer is use it a bit more. I'm not saying stare at it, but glance at it ocassionally just like you would your rear view mirror or door mirrors. As I have said in previous threads, it's everyone's responsability to make sure they are driving to the best of their ability and speeding seems to be mostly down to innatentiveness. I don't mean the kind of person that does 100 in a 30, I mean people who do 35 in a 30. That's my 5p's worth. Jim.
  9. No problem Tony. I was looked after extremely well. Your company is a credit to the industry and the larger chains of tyre fitting companies could learn alot from you. Also, the car feels better to drive. Many thanks again and I will certainly be using you again in the future. Jim.
  10. I once played fuel light bingo on a long motorway trip. The fuel light was on, the needle was bent round the stop, the fuel range had a big fat 0 on it and I did 30 miles. When I did fill up, it must have been running on fumes. This was in my old GS300. It was so empty that when I was filling it up, I was leaning against the rear panel and you could feel the back end of the car getting lower and lower. The fuel filter had a busy day that day with all the muck in the bottom of the tank it must have sucked up.
  11. Just thought I would let everyone know I've had my front tyres changed at WIM today. I've also had that fancy four wheel alignment thing done as well. Even though there are no apparent problems with alignment setup's on the LS430, it felt alot better. It's also loads quieter on the Michelin's compared to the old dunlops. Even though Tony wasn't there, the guys there were very professional and for the first time in a long time, I was treated nicely, informed about what needed adjusting and what could and couldn't be done. As soon as Tony takes over S**T Fit, the better. Thanks again to all at WIM and Blackboots. Cheers, Jim. (The guy with the black LS430.)
  12. I'll see everyone on Saturday morning. Don't forget to leave a space for me!!!!! :winky: My LS is bigger than it looks in the pics. I now have matching tyres for the first time in six months. See you all Saturday. Jim.
  13. I wish my Nissan Micra driving school car was kitted out the same as well. I'd give anything to have rain sensing wipers. I've never known a control known as variable intermittent cause so much confusion to people learning to drive. The thinker the line, the longer between wipes, the thinner the line, the less time between wipes. No wonder I'm going bald.
  14. I wonder if it's not too late to change one of my songs I sugested. Would it be possible to loose the Macarena to Wild Cherry and Play that funky music? Please, preety please? Thanks.
  15. I had a 2008 IS250SE auto with MM last weekend while mine was in for the iPod adapter. I thought it was a cracking car. I had more people looking at that car than my LS430. It was an absolute doddle to park as well. The interior was black leather though and would have benafitted from a lighter colour. Damn nice car though.
  16. I'm with Pete on this. Go for an LS430. I have sat in one of the last LS400's and I found that the 430 is by far much more modern in terms of specification. DVD sat nav as opposed to CD based, Mark Levinson stereo. Just make sure if it is the first of the LS430's (X reg to 53 reg), make sure it has the premium pack otherwyse you won't get electric rear seats, rear seat massage with heating, fridge and rear air conditioning. I'm not sure weather they all had air suspension or weather it was just in with the premium pack. I've had mine for over a year now and love it to bits. I did buy it from a Lexus main dealer and it does have a full Lexus service history. I have also renewed the warrenty for an extra two years. I probably didn't need to but it makes me feel better. There are some pics of it in another thread under "It's clean for two minutes". Hope this help. Jim.
  17. Do I need a red sticker to be able to show my car off with everyone elses at our stand? I don't have a red sticker. I WANT A RED STICKER!!!!!!!!! Please.
  18. Again, thankyou very much for the nice comments. Pete, I'd be more than happy to have a go with yours, but you will have to wait for the feeling to come back to my right hand and arm. That G220 sure vibrates quite a bit.
  19. Thanks for the nice comments. If you look at the thread on car detailing I put up yesterday, it tells you everything I did. I started at 9:00 this morning and finished at about four. One thing I used for the first time was my Meguiars G220 DA polisher. I will never polish another car by hand again. It saves you so much time and effort. As you can see the results are far better than what I could have achieved by hand.
  20. Evening all I broke out the G220 DA polisher for the first time. Great machine but I'm looking forward to the tingling in my fingers dissapeering. Here's a couple of shots of it looking clean before it gets coverd in ****. I tried to be a bit arty farty with the pics but I never excelled with creativity. (Nor spelling) At least it's clean for JAE. Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. Jim.
  21. I used to have a 2001 GS300SE with navigation. I really liked the car. It was very smooth, quiet, and had a fiar amount of grunt considering the size of the car with just a three litre engine. I must admit, it had one of the nicest sounding six cylender engines going in my opinion. But, and this is a big but, I find my current LS430 to be a compleatly different and far superior car. I didn't think that things could be quieter inside than a GS but boy was I wrong. The LS is whisper quiet. But the best thing is the 4.3 litre V8 engine. It is so lazy. At 70mph it's doing about 1,700 rpm. It is so lazy but when you do hoof it one, it is quicker than most things out there. You just have to bear in mind it must weigh the best part of two tonnes. I also like the way that everything in it moves electrically. Even the head restraints. In my opinion, go for an LS430.
  22. Just a quick update. I've just washed it and clayed it. Before claying I felt the paint and I thought it was smooth. I just did the boot lid thinking nothing else would need doing but it turned the clay dark brown so I have just finished the whole car. Only lost one knuckle in the process. Having a spot of tea and then I'm digging out the G220. Pics to follow. Enjoy your bank holiday. Jim.
  23. I must say how touched I am by all these invitations. I just don't know where to start. I know, I shall strart with detailing therapy which apparently can only be cured by cleaning an astral black Lexus LS430, aprox year of 2004. If I do a good enough job then I shall let you all know. I'm only doing all of this so my car doesn't look like a minger at JAE. I've not been before and I'd like to look like I've made the effort.
  24. Don't you just love it. People asking me to have a try on their car first. I feel most humbled. Well, if your willing to let me have a go on your car that's no problem but bear in mind, I've never even clayed a car before let alone used a dual action polisher on one but I'll give it a go. I've never done an eye operation either but I'm up for doing that too. I also checked the weather and it said dry, but cloudy. I'm hoping that didn't mean wet and cloudy but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :shutit:
  25. If it is anything like on my LS430, which it probably isn't, in the drivers footwell underneath the knee airbag is a button with the word tyre just above it. Inflate your tyres to the recomended pressures and then hold the button till the screen gives you a message. Mine came on a couple of times on my last long drive. All tyre pressures were fine so I just reset the indicator. No problems since.
