  1. I compleatly agree with the young girl. When my Bentley Continental Flying Spur turned up a day early, I had exactly the same reaction. It ruined my super sweet 31st birthday AND IT WAS EVERYONE'S FAULT AND I HAD THE SALESMAN TAKE THE ******* THING BACK AND I HATE EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!. :tsktsk: P.S. Does anyone know of a good therapist in the Hertfordshire area?
  2. I think I read somewhere that the 1UZ-FE engine is non interference but the 3UZ-fe is. I have always wonderd though why some engines have timing chains and some have timing belts. My Micra has a timing chain and as far as I'm aware, there are no replacement intervalls.
  3. On the Lexus website, there is a section where you can submit a question. I asked what was the correct cambelt change intervall for my LS430. The reason why I asked was because the service book states 10 years or 100,000 miles, which ever occures sooner. Lexus Woodford sent me a letter saying that it was due a cambelt change and serious damage would result if this was not undertaken. They think it is 6 years or 60,000 miles. The reply I had from Lexus was 10 years or 100,000 miles so that is what I'm probably going to stick to. Afterall, if it does break causing catastrpohic engine failure, I have an email direct from Lexus stating when the change should take place.
  4. A couple of people thought I had bought an S Class Merc, best of all though, most people think it's my dads.
  5. Evening everyone. I was on a 240 mile round trip to see family yeaterday and today. I was merrily bombing down the M40 at 70mph when I heard a "Boing", looked at the instrument panel and saw the dreaded red triangle. The message said "Tire Low". Why they couldn't spell it in English and not American is beyond me. Anyway, stopped at the nest exit, checked the preasures on all four tyres and they were all at 33psi. Got on my hands and knees and pressed the tyre reset button and all was well. My journey back, half way again and the warning comes on. Did exactly the same as before and no more warning. It is going in for a service in July at Lexus Woodford and I was wondering how the sensore worked, where are the sensors, and also should I tell Lexus about the problem as the sensors might need replacing under warrenty? Many thanks again everyone.
  6. Sorry to crash your thread, but what sort of a difference does a K&N panel filter make? Would it be worth popping one in my LS430 or should I just leave the standard one in? What about MPG or BHP. Sorry for the questions.
  7. I wouldn't have thought that a replacement side window would be cheap as it is double glazed. Well, that's what the salesman told me when I looked at my LS430. I've checked all my windows and they seem ok. To me on the other thread it looked like the tint had gone a bit funny. Wouldn't have thought moisture could get in there but if it can get into normall double glazing, then anything is possible.
  8. Hello. I was having a wonder round the internet and was having a look at the Bosch website. They do these aerotwin retrofit wiperblades. I have a few questions about these and was wondering if anyone has experience of them. 1) Would these fit on my 2004 LS430 2) Where can you get them from? There seem to be some makes out there I have never heard of and would rather stick to the Bosch ones. 3) Has anyone bought and tried them and what are they like? Many thanks. Jim.
  9. When I had my back ones replaced, they just jacked the back end up on two trolley jack. Doesn't seem to have caused any problems. Apart from a bill for nearly £400.00
  10. @Tony Never tried it. (driving barefoot, not stepping in K9 Mr Whippys) So you have tried stepping in a K9 Mr Whippy then? (btw, that is the funniest name for a dog t**d that I've ever heard! ) This is bizarre thread, but haven't tried it either, what makes it better than wearing shoes? It's amazing how evolution taught the dog to orbit it's arse so rhythmically....... "Flake" with that Rex? .......I'll get me coat. I'm glad it didn't go as far as crushed nuts or strawberry sauce.
  11. I think driving nude is a bit much too soon. I would imagine it could start with bare foot driving though. Then it could be shirtless, then trouserless, then say going from boxershorts to briefs, then a thong. There also might be a health risk involved in this. Us lucky people with air conditioned seats might be alright but imagine trying to peel yourself off your seat at the end of the journey. Now I need an honest opinion. Have I looked too far into this?
  12. He Leadfootmelvin. One of the reasons why I went for the 0w-30 fully synthetic oil was I was having a look at the Castrol web site. It is what they recomended for the Lexus so I bought some and I don't think I will use anything else. Having booked my LS in for a service in a month's time I will be supplying this oil again for the service. I shall also have it changed every six months. It spends most of it's time stuck in traffic or on the odd ocassion when I get to take it on a long run, it gets a bit of a spanking then. It probably isn't going to make much of a difference in terms of how long the engine will last, but I somtimes think we do these things to make us feel better. In my driving school car I get the oil changed every 6,000 miles rather than the 12,500 that Nissan recomends. This is due to the large amount of time that my car can sit there idling. I'd imagine that they use the cheapist equilivant of chip fat on their services but I do need that car to crack 200,000 miles before I replace it. All the best, Jim. P.S. How many LS430's are going to JAE this year?
  13. It makes sense that there would be a hybrid only model between the IS and the GS. Isn't the ES sold in the US the same as a Toyota Camry in all but looks but comes with the option of hybrid?
  14. I always thought that the refrigerant used in air conditioning systems also acted as a lubricant. If the system isn't used for a while, then the seals around the connecting pipes shrink slightly or dry out, causing the gas to escape. That it why I have always left my air conditioning on. Could be wrong though.
  15. Evening all. (Don't worry, I'm not Plod). A couple of months ago I had the oil changed in my LS430 because I thought it sounded a little bit tappetey. So, instead of bothering my local Lexus dealer, I popped down to the garage down the road. They supplied the Lexus (badged Toyota) oil filter and I supplied my own oil. Now I don't know what oil that Lexus themselves use but I supplied some Castrol Edge fully synthetic 0-W30 oil. Since using it, the tappetey noise has gone, when it starts from cold it revs slightly higher and on average I'm getting 2mpg more. What I wanted to know was, what is the oil that Lexus use and does using expensive fully synthetic oil make that much of a difference? Also, should the oil filter have a Lexus badge on it rather than a Toyota badge? I know they fall under the same umbrella but I couldn't tell what oil filter was on it prior to this oil change as all you can see under the bonet is a couple of bottles containing liquids of different sorts and a big silver cover (which I give a wipe over every time I clean her). Many thanks and have a good weekend everyone. Cheers, Jim.
  16. I personally don't think it would work. It always seems to be the smaller engined luxuary cars which seem to be the big sellers. Look at Mercedes Benz with the C class. You see loads of C180's and C200's. BMW for another example. Loads of 320i's and 320d's. I'm even seeing alot of 520d's. Apparently quite underpowerd for the size of the car but I have seen quite a few of them. Look at the Lexus approved used car website. The GS series, coutless GS300's and a handfull of GS430's. The IS350 would never sell well at all in my opinion. I also think it might knock some sales of the ISF. The 350 V6 in the IS can't be that far appart from the ISF in terms of acceleration and top speed.
  17. I would rather stick bamboo under my finger nails than watch an eppisode of that toot.
  18. Well I have been a member on here for a couple of years so I thought I better let you all know what's what. My name is Jim and I live in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. I'm 31 years old now and have been with my partner now for 8.5 years. Also the proud owner of two Guinea Pigs and a gold fish. I am a driving instructor and spend most of my day driving around Bishop's Stortford,Harlow, Stanstead, Hertford, etc in a silver Nissan Micra automatic. I'm qualified to teach both manuall and automatic. I really wanted a Yaris as a driving school car to keep under the same motoring family tree but for those who have driven the MMT you know it's absolute :tsktsk: . First Lexus was a 2001 GS300 and now have a 2004 LS430 and for the love of all things that are holy, don't buy anything in Astral Black as it's a right mare to keep clean. Even if you do think it makes you look like an Italian gangster. I've not got much on the hobbies front as I'm too knackerd most of the time to do anything but am looking forward to JAE in Essex.
  19. I suppose one way round it would be to have the gangster type of suspension fitted so every time you parks your blinging RX, you slam dunk it to the deck. Fresh outa Compton BOYYYYYYY. Sorry, I've got no idea what came over me then. I also heard somewhere that this was quite common in the States with the amount of SUV's out there. There can't really be a quiet way to cut a catalytic converter out but would you really want to approach the pykee scumbag who is doing it? They are welcome to my cats as I believe the LS has three of them. Thank the lord for protected no claims.
  20. Well, the other day, me and a pupil were doing a motorway lesson on the M11 and came across a Bugatti Veyron. My pupil decided to overtake and we burnt it off doing over 260 MPH in my Nissan Micra. I wonder how long it will be now for the Driving Standards Agency to throw me off the register of approved driving instructors, the Daily Mail to do a two page spread on why I am the only reason why young men between the ages of 17 and 25 are most at risk of killing themselves behind the wheel. It's got absolutly nothing to do with the way motoring journalists drive on the television or even what they say to get the backs up of certain members of the green party. It starts with children seeing the way a vast majority of people drive that sets the example. Hence the term "When in Rome". I can teach a seventeen year old about the dangers of driving too fast, car controll, anticipation and planning etc till I'm absolutly blue in the face. They take a driving test and come back with just a couple of minor faults. They do the Pass Plus course and improve the driving even more. Give them a couple of months behind the wheel, they see what everyone else is doing and emulates it weather they have seen or read the latest edition of Top Gear or not. Who honestly takes what Jeremy Clarkson, James May, Richard Hammond, Tom Ford, etc absolutly seriously anyway. It's just entertainment. Plain and simple. If you don't like that sort of entertainment, entertain yourself in another way. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not tarring every driver with the same brush. I'm sure alot of you drive with the concentration, consideration and to the best of your ability but we have all seen and/or been involved in somthing stupid/dangerous which has been caused by someone else. Sorry about that rant. If anyone needs me, I shall be applying to get on Jeremy Kyle and having a DNA test.
  21. Nice to see that you are piolting the latest in "Mum Truck Technology". Joking aside though, I do like the Zafira. I was thinking of getting one as a driving school car as most of my clients are mum's or mum's to be and they nearly always end up getting one or the Citroen Picasso. Saying that, I should probably go for a Range Rover Vogue as some of them end up buying these. Or better still, a Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Sorry about that, Normal service has been resumed. It's Micra power all the way for me.
  22. It takes many hours to teach a learner driver how to reverse into a bay, but I would give all my worldly assests to see that one introduced into the driving test.
  23. That is one clean looking car you got there. It now makes me feel very guilty that my LS430 is sat in the garage looking like it has seen the wrong side of a hedge. Astral black is an absolute nightmare to keep clean though. If you ever fancy practicing on mine then just give me a shout.
  24. Please don't take offence, but imagine your pulling up infront of a very posh hotel, the valet parker comes out to meet you, and you open your Lambo door. In my honest opinion, and I say again, please don't take offence, you might just look like a bit of a tit.
