  1. Evening all. I've just been down to check the tyres, fluids etc and noticed that the oil level is slightly high, just above maximum. Also the engine sounds a bit tappety when it settles down to an idle. It is only ever used for short trips and isn't due a service for another 4,000 miles or 4 months. Shall I get the oil changed now or leave it till it's service to quiten the tappety noise? Also, can my locall garage change the oil using a Lexus oil filter and me supplying my own fully synthetic oil without the warrenty being affected? Many thanks again.
  2. I have started using Castrol Edge 0W30. That's that the Castrol site recomended for my old GS300. Going to start using it in my LS430 soon.
  3. This might be a daft question so please ignore it if it is but why would the IS220d have a fifth injector when it is a four cylender unit? I know Lexus's new petrol engines and both direct and indirect injection so I was just wondering what the fifth injector did?
  4. I find that using the sequential function very good, especially when you want some engine braking. To be honest, I don't use it that much but I find it alot easier to use than the small buttons which were on the steering wheel of my old GS300. The gearbox in my LS430 is also very quick to kickdown and there is no hesitation at all so overtaking is good. It sometimes feels as though it decide's to miss gears as it goes but every six speed version I have driven is like that. It sometimes feels a little lost at low speed driving but it does learn your driving style and adapts to it.
  5. I'm not sure if the gearbox on my old GS300 which was a five speed is the same one used on the LS430 but you could swear sometimes that it was a CVT. I do find though that my LS430 which has the six speed gearbox, although just as smooth as the five speed one, feels like it has got more gears than it knows what to do with. This is somthing I found when driving the LS460. The one thing that does annoy me is the voice recognition. Sometimes when I say 21 degrees, it puts the temperature up to 28. Apart from that, I think it's awsome.
  6. They do look awsome. Would they fit on a 2004 LS430?
  7. I only ever put BP Ultimate in my LS. When your spending as much as me on petrol then a couple more pound doesn't seem to make much difference or not. As to weather I'm getting more power or not, I couldn't tell you to be honest. It makes me feel better though.
  8. If it was my money, I hate to admit it but it would be the Merc I would go for. I think it is the most bruitish of them and there is somthing I like about that.
  9. Well I must say I am pleased to read this. I do try my best for a reduction on global warming so I tried measuring the Co2 output on my LS430. The only problem was I ran out of buckets.
  10. When I looked into getting my first HID kit 4 years ago, the law was that the HID lights can be fitted to a car without the need for automatic levelling and washers. However, if they are fitted on the car from new, then they needed auto levelling and washers. I have never had a problem with MOT's on my driving school car but after fitting them, make sure you get your headlight level checked so as not to blind everyone coming the other way.
  11. Mine are 245/45/ZR 18's I prefer Michelin tyres to other makes purely because they are so much quieter. The Dunlops I currently have a quite noisy.
  12. I have orderd today for fitment this Saturday, two Michelin Piolot Sports for the back of my LS. I'm looking forward to it being alot quieter compared to the Dunlops which are currently fitted. £380 for two tyres including ballance and fitting so it ain't too bad.
  13. Hi Pete. Thanks for your reply. On my driving school car I normally do quite well. 40,000 out of a front pair and I never really replace the backs unless of unrepairable puncture. There is a huge difference between 75bhp and 280bhp as well I suppose so I think I had better start buying shares in Michelin. I currently have Dunlops on it at the moment and can't wait to get rid of them.
  14. Good evening people. Just a quick question. The tyres on my LS430 seem to be wearing evenly and the car doesn't pull to the left or the right. Now I don't always have a heavy right foot (unless there is a boy racer in dire need of a spanking), but my rear tyres seem to be wearing alot more than the front's. Is this normall as the GS300 I used to have never got through back tyres like my LS430? My rears must but be nearly half a mm away from the tyre wear indicators so I will be down to Elite Tyres in Raynem for a new set of Michelin Piolot Sports next Saturday. P.S. Really miffed as my detailing guy didn't turn up today and didn't bother ringing either so if anyone can recomend a detailer in the Hertfordshire/North London area then I would be very greatfull.
  15. All I am bringing is my car as I'm only allowed to play for a day.
  16. I thought the difference between the two was obvious. One is Graham Norton and the other is Prince.
  17. Just a thought, it might be the battery in the smart key is getting low. Try replacing it. My Lexus dealer did this free for both of my keys.
  18. If the GS430 has the same engine as in my LS430 then I would say go for it. It is one of the most under stressed engines I have ever driven. Every day normal speeds it will never go over 2,000 Rpm. Forget fuel consumption and running costs, just go for it. That is all I can say. I used to have a Mk 2 GS300SE nav and my LS430 beats the pants off it in every area. Especially power. I've not maxed mine but look on youtube and you can see the speedo on an LS430 going all the way round. Quite impressive.
  19. First thing, I think you might need a good long practice on my LS430. Practice geting it right on mine first.
  20. I must admit when I was looking for an LS430 it was a job to find one that the previous owner had spent the best part of their life smoking in. I always wanted a metallic grey one but you guessed it, they stank of cigerettes. I don't care what you say, you can't get rid of the smell. Then one day, Lexus Hatfield had an 54 reg LS430 in Astral Black. Fell in love with it straight away. It makes me feel like I'm an extra in the Sopranoes. Chrome and black work so well together.
  21. Good afternoon people and Happy Easter. Not that I have been on an economy drive or anything but for the past week or so I have been driving my LS430 round very gently to see what sort of a difference it makes to the MPG. So far I had a tank average around town and motorway of 32.5 MPG. Couldn't quite believe it myself as the best I got out of my old GS300 was 30MPG. These readings were taken from the tank average. The only thing is, my LS never goes above 2,000 rpm. Is this going to cause the engine to coke up over time leading to premature oxygen sensor, catalytic converter failure or any other such related problems? It must think it has been bought by the manager of a matress company. Also, completly unrelated, in the rear offside tyre I have noticed a nail which is well imbedded in the tyre. It looks to be just over an inch away from the side wall. Is this typre of damage repairable as I don't know how close to the tyre wall you can get before it isn't repairable? Many thanks.
  22. Very nice. Now we know who to blame for the bad weather. :) My detailing guy has just rang up to cancell as well. Re booked in for easter Monday. If he can get my LS half as good as yours then I will be happy.
  23. I'll be there. I've asked for 2 tickets in the other thread. Does my car have to be cleaned before though?
  24. Can you please put me down for 2 tickets. I will be able to make Saturday the 30th. I will bring my LS430 for everyone to have a butchers so long as I can park it next to everyone elses. This will be my first attendence and really looking forward to it. Many thanks, Jim.
  25. I tried this on my Nissan Micra driving shool car. It averages 38.4 MPG which isn't bad for constant start stop, turn in the road, reversing round corners etc. Switching the air con off I got the magic figure of, 38.4mpg. Turning it back on, 38.4. I think that the technology in making the compressors has improved so much that it makes almost no difference at all.
