  1. Evening everybody. Having just got back from the grand old USA for a two and a bit week holoday, I think it may have caused a slight problem with the Lexus. On ocassion, when you turn the starter, all you get is a loud ticking noise. Having checked the battery tonight, the charge indicator is showing black. Looking at the guide on the battery, I think this means it is in a discharged state. Are my options as follows:- A) Have the battery charged back up by my local Lexus Dealer, B ) Take the car for a good long drive for a couple of hours, C) Have the battery replaced under warrenty, or D) Have the starter checked. And advice would be appreciated. Jim.
  2. Does anyone know which bodyshop that Lexus Woodford or Lexus Hatfield use? I'm now feeling slightly nervous about chipsaway.
  3. Thanks very much for your replies. I have dropped an email to the guy who put some posts on Pistonheads. He's in Cambridge but I don't mind travelling to make sure that the job is done properly. Hopefully I shall hear from him tomorrow. Thanks again.
  4. Thanks for the advice. This is hertfordshire council we are talking about here. I refused to work for them when they started doing speed awareness courses because I refused to work for a load of pencil pushing monkeys so getting them to pay for it wouldn't be worth the trouble asking. They really are that useless. It wouldn't suprised me that if they did pay for it, they would up my council tax next year to get it all back and more. Sorry for the rant.
  5. Evening all. I was following a tipper van which was being driven by some fat useless individual who works for Hertfordshire Council who couldn't be botherd to put a cover over his load. Lets just say he changed lanes with exhuberence and sprayed a fair amount of gravel over the road putting some lovely deep stone chips in my bonet. I need to get them repaired asap as one of them has gone down to the metal and I don't want it to rust. I've heard of this company called Chipsaway and was wondering if anyone has used them before? I don't fancy having a go with a touch-up pen, wet sanding and polishing as I don't have a rotoray polisher and I'm not experienced enough to make sure I don't make a pigs ear out of it. Have a good evening all. Jim.
  6. Arn't they just a magnet that fits around your petrol pipe? I believe you can buy the same kit that is supposed to reduce the amount of lime in water to stop your shower head furring up. Basically, a load of toot. If you want to save money on petrol, either change the way you drive, what you drive, or how much you drive.
  7. I think the point your on about is called Dante's View. Here's a couple of pics. That's me holding the cam, looking all British. Here's a couple more pics of the view. Enjoy.
  8. I know what you mean. I ran the Lincoln down to just under a quarter of a tank and filled it up for just under $60.00 which equates to about £30.00 ish which is probably about 80 litres odd of unleaded. I do love that country though. Like the Lincoln, it's got character.
  9. There was absolutly nothing sporty about that Lincoln at all. The steering was strange. You would turn the wheel, the car would lean, then it would turn. The traction controll was just a flashing light. It made no difference weather it was on or not. Turn it off, the back wheels would spin. Turn it on, the back wheels would still spin but it would flash a light at you. And the boinging noise. It would boing when you opend a door, boing when you closed it, boing when you started it, it was just irritating. It rattled, groaned, creaked, was just awfull. It only had a couple of thousand miles on the clock but it felt like it had done 200,000. It had a 4.6 litre v8 engine but all the get up and go of my 1.2 Micra automatic. It also had a 4 speed automatic gearbox and a column shift. I think it only ever used two of it's gears, but praise where it's due, driving through Death Valley where the outside temperature was nudging 50 degrees c, the temperature guage never moved from the middle. It didn't use a drop of coolant either and the aircon was ice cold. I don't know why though but I do kind of miss it. It had somthing that Alfa Romeo drivers bang on about (because they can't obviously talk about reliability) and that's character. My LS430 (touch wood) hasn't so much as farted since i've owned it but it's like a fridge. Works for years and years but can be easily forgettable but the Lincoln I doubt I will forget for many years.
  10. Just got back from my hols driving one of these across west USA In temperatures in Death Valley at 5:50pm On some roads like this. Driving thin Lincoln on roads like that was like trying to get a concert Steinway up a loft ladder. I've got no idea how the wheels were attatched to the car, probably with sticky back plastic and alot of rubber bands, but it was a bit of a handfull. It was a giggle though.
  11. I thought I might add my 2 bobs worth. When I bought my 2004 LS430 just over a year ago, it came with Dunlops. I believe they were the SP sport. They were noisy, and also caused a vibration under braking. I now have Michelin Piolot Sports on the front and back and I can tell you the difference is amazing. It is now whisper quiet, no more vibration under braking and the car feels more stable. Michelin's all the way in my opinion.
  12. yes it is - but check the kit out as it is not as sophisticated as teh vaistech. Only plays playlists.... Spoke to Lexus, apparently the Lexus kit will not fit a pre-05 model. What a shame. Looked at the Vaistech, but concerned re third party installer and warranty !!! I bought the SL2Vi from Vaistech and got Lexus to fit it. There were no problems with the warrenty as when I had it installed, I renewed the warrenty for two years. It is defanitly worth getting. Lexus didn't do an intigration kit for the LS430 either.
  13. I can very easily talk you out of buying a GS300. Compare the prices of them against the LS430 and the LS makes more sense. Bigger engine and more gadgets that you could point a sore finger at. Bigger engine, well, bigger everything. P.S. I do really like the GS but have a go in an LS430 and you'll see what I mean.
  14. I like Smokey And The Bandit one and two. Not the third one though, I thought that was a bit daft. I suppose one and two are a bit daft. I also liked Gone In 60 Seconds. Not the new one with Nicholas Cage but the original one from the 70's. And before anyone asks, I am only 31 not 71.
  15. Evening All. I've been Wim'd a couple of weeks ago. One part of the adjustment on the LS430 requires a new suspension thing (they did explain it to me but I do feel out of my depth with these things) which you need to buy in order to adjust the camber or castor, can't remember which one though. Sorry for the disjointed info. After spending alot of money on two 245/45/18 Michelin Piolot Sport tyres I wanted them to last as long as possible. In terms of handling it feels more stable and no longer tram lines. In terms of refienment, my car is now as quiet as I expected it to be. The Dunlops which were fitted prior to the Michelin's were so noisy and now the vibration under braking has compleatly disapered. I highly recomend getting your car Wim'd. They will certainly look after you and I find it worth every penny. Jim.
  16. Well, I have just orderd the rubber band performance kit. I'm hoping for a 3 to 4,000 bhp gain in performance and a decrease in MPG by 1,500 to 2,000 mpg. Now if you will all excuse me, I'm just going to give my bank account details and sort code to Mr Abdugwabgwengo as I have to help him move 36,000,000.00 Uganded Dollars from his oil refining company. Jim. P.S. My sort code is 123456 and my bank account number is 12345678 and my pin no is 1234. My adress if needed is 66 fairy cake lane, englandshire, the world. Postcode is IM1 MUG. P.P.S. Sorry for being patronising again. This time I'm blaming the bottle of cider I have just drunk.
  17. 992,174 Could someone remind me why I shouldn't pick blackberry's from waist height again? P.S. I think I might have had one too many Cobra Beers.
  18. I ban Einstein because I have never banned anyone before, and also because mars is rising through sagitarious and my lucky stone is topaz, and my unlucky stone is Mick Jagger.
  19. The best ways of saving money on fuel is to keep off your accelerator pedal as much as possible. When going down long hills, make sure you keep your car in drive as a modern petrol engine shuts the fuel off to the injectors so effectively, you get that downhill stretch for free. When waiting at level crossings, open your wondows and switch your engine off whilst waiting. When accelerating away, don't prod your accelerator pedal, gently apply pressure to it so as not to waste fuel as a small percentage will go unburnt. Now, that advice is for free so don't go spending any more money with these people who feel they can make a quick buck. Have a good weekend everyone. Jim. P.S. Sorry for being patronising.
  20. Funny you should say that as these 2 young ladies were going round selling them Admittedly as far as I know they didn't come up to our field (as I'm sure there would have been some pics put up ) but they were out & about on the main parts Well, I can wander round next year wearing a bikini selling raffel tickets if you like. But, I will draw the line at a lap dance.
  21. When I needed new discs and pads on my old mkii GS300 I bought them from Prolex. The discs were groved and came with mintex pads. I can't remember the price but they were of very high quality. Even the Lexus dealer who fitted them were impressed.
  22. I have the SL2Vi fitted to my LS430 and it's great. I didn't fit it myself as I had my local Lexus dealer do the business. Which was probably a good idea as they had alot of problems fitting it but now it's done, it's great. Perfect sound quality and no more tape adapters, and for a giggle, you can watch a movie on the touch screen. It sees the iPod as a minidisc player and it also now has a dvd changer for watching movies from. So long as you have it in park with the handbrake on. I imported it from the states direct from the supplier as I found the UK suppliers to be much more expensive. I still have to press the "I Agree" button on startup but I imagine as Lexus fitted it, the made sure the screen stayes up.
  23. Nice one. Thanks for letting us know. I hope you have better luck with the new one the dealer finds you. My current LS had a few problems which were sorted at great expense to the dealer but these were problems with car keys and air con pipes and the usuall allow wheel corrosion. I have just renewed my warrenty for two years and touch wood, I won't have to use it. Jim.
  24. I had a cracking time but I would have liked to have seen more GS's and LS's there. Perhaps I might be the youngest LS430 owner on here but I'm sure if more of us turned up then it would be better. And as others have said a few more trade stands would have been good. Maybe even Lexus themselves showing an ISF would have been awsome. That's just my 2 bob's woth. Jim.
