  1. It is nice when they pass the MOT with no probs. The same happend with my LS's last MOT. I do find it funny when you ask if there is anything wrong and the response you get is "It's a Lexus Dahling".
  2. I know what you mean. Mine go down, cross eyed and then back again. It was funny the first few times, but now, well you know ....
  3. The lights on my LS430 do exactly the same thing. Bright, then dim, then bright and blue, then brighter and white. They do seem to get brighter quicker than the Philips HID kit I fitted to my old GS300.
  4. I've not got a 220d so I might not be of much help but I did have a GS300 with Bridgestone Potenza'a on it and my LS430 came with Dunlop SP Sport or what ever they were. I found both these tyres very noisey. I can recomend Michelin Piolot Sports. I have had four fitted to my LS. They are quiet and provide better feel.
  5. I know you don't want anything "girlie" but I can't recomend the Nissan Micra enough. If you go for the diesel these are congestion charge exempt and you pay next to sweet fanny adams road tax per year. I have been running them as driving school cars and servicing and other useables aside, they are as hard as nails. I'm the best part of 6 foot 4 and I can spend an 8 hour working day in it no problem. The only thing I would say is go for one with the 14 inch wheels and the cost for the tyres for the 15 inch wheels are a complete rip off. Jim.
  6. I wouldn't believe what the computer tells me anyway in terms of how many miles that I have left. The one in the LS430 seems to change it's mind all the time but the worst one is in the Nissan Micra. I remember coming back from Heathroe airport and trying to get to jct 25 on the M25. It said I had 50 miles till it ran out. By the time I got to jct 25 it said 10 miles. All of a sudden the 10 miles went to four flat lines and I had a nice coasting session into the BP garage just off the A10. Don't follow the screen, follow the needle instead.
  7. He probably had the climate controll set just so that the ambient temperature in the cabim was just right. The sound reproduction from the Nakamichi stereo must have moved the crowds by it's clarity. WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TOO :tsktsk:
  8. Evening everyone. Hope you all had a good Christmas and a good New year. I picked up my newest copy of Top Gear today and was having a read in the Lifers section. The IS-F that Charlie Turner is running needed a service. Was suprised to hear that one dealership didn't know what an IS-F was. The dealer who did service it managed to get car polish on the drivers seat. With the problems that some IS owners are having and the more I hear of problems that people are having with Lexus Dealerships in terms of buying a car and getting it serviced, the more I think that this will be my last ever Lexus. I may be over reacting about this but there seem to be quite a few unhappy owners on here. What are everyone elses opinions on this? Jim.
  9. I compleatly agree. There is a stretch of the A10 heading south near Broxbourne where my Tom Tom thinks it's 30 when it is 70. Nothing is reliable enough yet.
  10. Well I might be a candidate today. I drove into London and back and realised once parking the car at home, and bear with me know because this is taking alot to talk about this, I HAD BIRD POO OBSTRUCTING MY NEARSIDE BRAKE LIGHT I'm going to be checking this site every couple of hours. If my number plate gets on this site, could someone inform me as to who I see for my punishment? What is my punishment? I'm now paranoid. I imagine my punishment would be quite severe as I refferd to all of them as a bunch of s** offenders.
  11. It seems he has a proplem with most cars. Remembering past video's I've seen nearly every marque has had some torture set upon it.
  12. I havn't seen the dvd but I would much rather he blew it up than turn it into Anne Hathoway's cottage like he did to that old Merc.
  13. I got (early though) an Arcam amp and Mission speakers to go with my retro Philips cd player. My neighbours are gona love me.
  14. Your telling me. Cheered me up no end though. This kind of thing does not contribute to road safety one bit. The police can't use any of it as evadence as there is no proof of these incidents happening other than an aligation from someone wearing comfortable slacks which they got from Marks and Spencers. In my opinion this kind of thing helps no one. The alleged offenders on this website will not be looking themselves up to see what action they can take to improve their driving. Complete waste of electricty. They also sound like a load of s** offenders anyway. (That comment is of my own and does not represent the opinions of anyone other than myself). None of my registration plates came up though which is a shame.
  15. Merry Christmas every one and Happy New Year. May 2009 have cheap petrol for us all.
  16. I believe there was a standard LS430 and a Premium LS430. Both had the touch screen satnav. The standard did without the air suspension, electric-heated reclining rear seats with massage, rear fridge, half wood steering wheel, etc. When the LS430 was facelifted in 2003, I believe there were no options. Everything was standard. Reading through my manuall, there may have been a model with heated and cooled rear seats but this option may not have been available in the UK as my rear seats are only heated. Hope this helps. Jim.
  17. Fuel consumption 23mpg!!!! Crikey. I'm getting that on average from my LS430.
  18. I recomend to put your keys away in a small lockable container out of sight or a small safe. Or, take them with you. That's what I do. There is only so much you can do though. Thanks the good lord himself for gap insurance.
  19. The attrocious driving which I encountered on the M6 earlier included a "RED" driving school car being driven at high speed with rear foglight on, changing lanes without any form of indication. I have seen this type of driving by other SoM cars previously. If all driving instructors were like you appear to be then maybe driving standards would improve. Whilst I appreciate that ALL? drivers, including myself, make errors I do feel that if instructors in marked SoM cars are driving in a manner showing scant regard for both their own and others safety then what hope can we have for road safety. I see driving like that every day from other instructors. It is such a shame because the driving instruction industry could be so good but there are so many people out there who are more interested in making a quick buck than making a difference to road safety. To make matters worse the lady who is currently running the Driving Standards Agency doesn't have any other driving qualifications other than a standard driving licence. It is an industry that I will soon be leaving as I feel that I'm hitting my head against a brick wall. Attitudes are somthing that I can't change alone.
  20. Alot of motorists out there seem to see driving as one of life's necessasry evils which has to be done. When it is thought of like that then it tends to be done badly my the majority. Driving is a task within itself and it is up to all of us to make sure that we drive to the best of our ability. Many people say they have bad habits which have gotten worse over years. To me this is just laziness and an improper attitude to driving. I teach my pupils all about car controll in terms of what the car is doing under braking, accelerating and cornering. I use the book Roadcraft on my lessons as well as official DSA publications. I can use all of this material till I'm blue in the face but I'd be lucky that one in ten take it away with them. People see driving as a right but it is certainly a privilage that gets abused an awfull lot. It is somthing we all whitness on a daily basis. Teaching starts at home. If your children are in the car, make sure you drive to a high standard. Your children will be watching and will learn more about driver attitude from yourselve's than what they will from any driving instructor. People will learn by example from other motorists as well. If someone cuts you up, don't take offence to it. Let them in and carry on with your journey. People will see this and will more likely to react to the same situation the same way that you have. Speeding in my opinion has only a small part to play in accidents (or collisions as Plod apparently reffer to them now). Attitude towards driving needs to change before any real difference can be made in my opinion. The courses are there for everybody to do from the IAM to ROSPA. You join the local club for roughly £20 but then your lessons are free. Even if you don't take the test at the end, at least you have taken steps to improve your driving. Remember too that the L test is the bare minimum requirement that you need to be able to drive on the road. It does not make anyone an expert in the driving field. We all have somthing to learn which can make a huge difference out there. Jim.
  21. Welcome mate. I used to have a 2001 GS300SE. Even though I have an LS430 there are some things about it I miss. It has one of the most glorious sounding straight six cylender engines in my opinion (M3 CSL aside)and for it's size it always felt smaller than it was. The only thing I never got on with was the buttons on the steering wheel for changing gears manually. They were too small to be usefull. Hope you enjoy your new car and stick a couple of pickies up. Jim.
  22. I wouldn't bother with HID high beams. HID's prefer to be left on as apposed to being switched on and off. As you will have noticed when switching on your HID's they yake three to five seconds to really come on and with high beams, the brighter light is usually needed straight away. Besides, you'd be suprised how little you will use the high beams now you have HID's. Jim.
  23. Welcome to the non-sugar coated world of driving today. In terms of car safety you can have the latest traction controll systems, ABS, ESP, Collision avoidence, more airbags than a carnival and all the computing power available to man but if you have got the equilivant of Forest Gump at the wheel, then none of it is any good. A stricter driving test will certainly not cure a problem of speeding. Most of the lads I taught would drive round for all of their lessons with a halo over their heads. They would never speed, anticipation is spot on. They would go for a driving test and come back with only a couple of minor faults. Give them two weeks on their own and they are doing exactly what Mum and Dad do behind the wheel. Tailgating, speeding, mind on other things etc. The problem doesn't stem from learning to drive or tougher driving tests. It starts from the first time they see the way the parents drive. They will listen to their parents more about learning to drive than they will me. Most driving instructors are seen as a way of just getting through a driving test. Once that's done, job's a goodun, they'll do what they want. Constant assesments and tuition through a persons driving career is what is needed not just a harder driving test.
  24. What r u 2 sayin that im in2 tack What about this 1 ? I think Dame Edna Everage wants her glases back.
