  1. I couldn't even bring myself to stand on the glass floor of the CN tower in Canada let alone do what that guy did.
  2. I know it is impossible to stop accidents from happening. With the amount of cars on the roads it is inevatable that at some point or another, some are going to colide with each other. Back to my original point I was making, having passed a driving test two weeks prior to the offence taking place, it's not a good sign getting nicked at this stage of a driving career. Lets hope a lesson has been learned.
  3. Found this on Flea Bay. Not my cup of tea but you never know. 170285516156 Jim.
  4. Instead of thinking of ways of getting out of the speeding points and fine, how's about making sure that we all don't go over the speed limits. It's very easy to do. When the big dial with the red needle is showing the speed limit, don't push down any more on the accelerator pedal. Having passed your driving test two weeks prior to this, I'm fairly certain that what your instructor told you should still be fresh in your mind. What do I know though, I'm only a grade five driving instructor who is ROSPA trained. Jim. P.S. Sorry for the heavy handed rant but I do get the hump when I hear things like this.
  5. I can recomend Castrol Edge fully synthetic 0W-30 and have used it for the past two oil changes. I get mine changed every six months. The LS doesn't do a huge mileage but when it is used, it normally does 200-300 mile trips. My MPG went up slightly from 21.5 to 23 on short trips and now 30mpg is more than common on those motorway trips.
  6. In my old mkII GS300 I was told by the salesman when in the snow, to get yourself moving, to switch off the traction controll and select the snow option. Gently apply some accelerator and Bobs your uncle, your out the snow. Somthing tells me that he has probably never tried this as driving my LS430 in the snow is not fun. (for passangers anyway :P )
  7. I got this tip off my Grandad and it seems to work quite well. It's also cheap too. Stop the wipers so they are at half mast then get two peaces of newspaper and place them on the windscreen. Secure them by placing the wipers over the top of the newspaper and leave. You will come out next morning to find that when you remove the newspaper, your windscreen in ice free. All you need to do is clean off your side windows and as the Americans say, "Your good to go". It is much cheaper than leaving your engine running for ten minutes or so and envrionmentally friendly too. P.S. How hypacritical am I talking about being environmentally friendly and driving a 4.3 litre car. P.P.S I never have to do this with the Lex as it sleeps in a garage.
  8. Always remember that nobody ever takes notice of what JC says in the first place. The mk5 Ford Escort back in 1991 was slated to the far reaches of the universe and back by a certain JC and it turned out to be one of the best selling cars that Ford ever had. I find him very entertaining but he'd be the last person I would ask for advice when it comes to buying a car.
  9. I know what you mean about the parking sensors. I once was reversing up to a post and heard nothing from the parking sensors. Good job I stopped when I did because I was a couple of mm away from disaster. Jim.
  10. My neighbours Yaris says "MADE IN FRANCE" on the windscreen as apposed to "MADE IN JAPAN" that's written on mine. My Micra doesn't say "MADE IN NEWCASTLE" though. It might have somthing to do with it coming across from Japan on a boat and then they put one screw in it and claim it was made in Britain.
  11. The best and easiest, foolproof way to save 31% on petrol is to cut your car usage by around 31%. Sorry for stating the bleeding obvious, but these things just don't work. Changing up gears earlier, not letting your engine labour in too high a gear and coming off your accelerator pedal earlier when coming up to red traffic lights or junctions and not coasting up to them in neutral will have a positive effect but not this. Jim.
  12. I wonder if the Phonejacker has now turned into the Emailjacker?
  13. Head lights are a pain for us driving instructors. Trying to change a headlight in one minute because of a bulb failure often ends in removed knuckles and an examiner who looks like they have the hump. The Renault Modus is a dealer job when you need a bulb changed. It's a bumper off afair apparently. I don't even know how you would go about it on my LS430.
  14. Pete Good luck with the new car. Sorry to hear the Lex has to go. Hopefully I can still hit you up for advice as it has always been very helpfull. If I had room, I would give your lex a good home. Thanks again mate. Jim.
  15. Yeah, I quite often get the Micra above 210mph on the M1. Then I wake up, to find that I'm being reversed round a corner for the one hundreth time.
  16. Good luck with the Jag. Nothing like a touch of British class. My partners dad has an 03 reg XJ6 and I really like it. For a three litre v6 is shifts preety well. Being made of mostly aluminium helps though. It has all the toys fron touch screen satnav to DVD screens in the head restraints.
  17. I thought this was sooooo funny. Please wait a few seconds for Video to Load! I now promise not to come on here after a cider.
  18. A few years ago in Hoddesdon, Herts, there was a drive-by shooting. I just missed it by about 5 minutes as I was walking past the particular gym in question. Any later and then I could have been cut in half by two nutters in balaclavas, driving a white van emptying the contents of an automatic weapon at some poor guy. I guess it wasn't my time. THIS COUNTRY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope a certain Mr Brown reads this.
  19. I chose Michelin Piolot Sports because they were the ones at the top of my tyre buying budget. I have always been of the opinion that cheap tyres are a false economy in terms of safety and longevity. Plus, having the Piolot Sports on 18's, they do look the muts. Also seen the same tyres on an S65AMG Merc. If it's good enough for that, it's good enough for my LS. It did used to have Dunlop SP Sport 9000's or what ever they were called. These were so noisey and tramlined like a tram on a line and this was when they had about 5mm of tread on them. I couldn't recomend Michelin's enough and if anyone who works for Michelin is reading this, I expect a huge cheque in the post for my next four. If you never ask, you never get.
  20. They say smoking causes cancer. If that dog end hit my bonet, it would have caused instant death to the ****** who threw it. I am not normally violent, but I would tear him a new one. Knowing that the Lex would be there after my prison stint would make my time feel shorter I suppose.
  21. Jim "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" holds very true, your sensors could last forever or give up tomorrow, it is not a foregone conclusion that just because they go on some cars they will go on all cars, in fact they are a common misdiagnosed item. The poor little things get blamed for lots of other problems, especially by garages who don't know the engine well. So keep your money for now, if you do need them you can get them sent over the pond within 2 days anyway...... Pete Hi Pete Thanks very much for your advice. I am a bit or a worrier when it comes to these things. At the moment it certainly aint broke. I scared the living whatsits out of an M3 driver on the M25 thisevening so there is plenty of grunt there with no warning lights. I think I had better get some shares in Michelin because the way my right foot is at the moment, they ain't gonna last long. All the best, Jim.
  22. Evening all. Sorry to crash the thread, but my LS has done 67,000 miles now. I've always ran it on BP ultimate but would it be worth changing all the oxygen sensors before I get the engine light come on? If I bought them in from the States and had Lexus fit them, would it void my warrenty? Or would it be best to wait for the light to come on and then get Lexus to replace them? Sorry for my daft questions, I've just spent the last four hours walking round Bluewater and I'm feeling ever so slightly sick. Jim.
  23. I found that the original Lexus mats are of very high quality. They are so nice that I bought a cheap set to cover them which this time of year, and the original mats being grey, is the best way to go. I don't know how much the original ones cost as I had a brand new set thrown in with the car and that was over a year ago. Jim.
  24. The Bosch ones are very good IMO Me too :D I have the Bosch Aerotwin Flat Blade Wipers on mine, superb in my book, I do know of a couple of people who have bought cheaper copies from E-Bay and have had problems (one of which was a wiper going walkies in use at around 70mph and the arm leaving a big scratch across the screen before they could be stopped) :o I've got the Bosch Aerotwin retrofit blades on my Nissan Micra but I have been told by wiperblades.co.uk that Bosch don't make them for the LS430.
