  1. It amazes me they don't know more, they only have a very small range - they should be able to tell you everything about them, they tend to run them as their own cars and surely they have enough interest in the brand to read about them.
  2. This is perfectly normal (and exactly as it operates in my car) it is because you have the car in Eco mode, this maximises turning the engine off as soon as possible to save fuel, if it's cold outside it restricts the amount of heat the car channels into heating the cabin instead it emphasises keeping the engine at a temperature it can turn off easily. This problem is easily and instantly resolvable by putting the car into normal mode, sometimes when it gets very cold I forgo the benefit of lower fuel costs and move into normal - instantly the engine fires up even when stationary and the heater starts blasting into the cabin. So if you performance of your previous Lexus heaters then run in normal :)
  3. Just wondering what tyre pressures people are running the 19 inch wheels at? Noticed a very large range given on the door for 160~ and ~160km
  4. Well there are a few things: First get the lowest spec car so it weighs the least :) (or just get the one with all the toys and enjoy ;) ) Put the car in Eco mode Press the Off button to turn off AC and heating Have the dash display on power display so you know when engine on, get up to speed and back off accelerator till only battery used Seat heaters are more efficient than cabin heating Normal mode will prioritise things like getting the cabin up to temp so a cold morning in normal mode the engine will be on a lot to warm up A nice day with the window down, AC off, eco mode on and travelling about 30mph on steady flowing roads will get you pretty much your maximum mpg
  5. Prices for lower spec ones look superb and the luxury one has good options - not sure on the price premium for Premier gade - not too much in the way of options for the extra money
  6. Never had any issues with Lexus extended warranty - there are a few things that aren't covered like 12v battery and they have made the 5yr version less appealing as now doesn't cover multimedia but also lowered the price
  7. Got some miles on these tyres now and would highly recommend, nice and quiet, great fuel consumption and wet grip seems very good. Can't comment about snow performance yet ;)
  8. Approx 100 mile trip, 25% urban, 50% motorway, 25% country roads varying from 30-60, 2 x mile long traffic jams, 2 adults, 1 child and a couple of bags. Got just over 40mpg, this is why I think unlike other manufacturers Lexus figures are actually obtainable - if you were to drive at the most efficient speeds with a single person in the car and no luggage the quoted 45mpg seems entirely possible!
  9. To be fair £120 difference for a major service between main dealer and a good local garage doesn't seem bad to me - to get piece of mind it's genuine Lexus parts, Lexus service stamp, car picked up, cleaned and dropped back, the backup of a brand with the best customer service levels it would get my money!
  10. That hack actually required the hacker to be attached to the network socket inside the car, it wasn't a hack that could work from the internet, that said I still hope all these manufacturers build in protection with sanity checks (not sure why common sense never seems to occur in these sort of things) something like if the car is in use then no remote operations are allowed
  11. Mainly Eco mode does the following:Reduces sensitivity of accelerator pedal (to encourage slower acclerating) Reduces Airconditioning operation Emphasises keeping engine off as much as possible The main change you will notice is in Winter - if you put the car into Eco mode and drive on a cold morning the cabin will stay cold for a very long time as it emphasises turning the engine off as soon as possible to save fuel rather than keeping the engine hot to provide heat for the cabin. Check it out on a cold morning, drive a bit in eco mode and notice no heat blowing in then switch to normal and listen for the engine firing up to start heating the cabin. http://blog.lexus.co.uk/hybrid-driving-lexus-top-tips-for-best-fuel-economy/
  12. I have always found Lexus to be one of the few manufacturers whose mpg claims are actually achievable! It is important to remember that the quoted figures are literally a BEST case scenario, if you are driving a fully warmed up car, no headwinds, no aircon on, no cold temps that require the engine to heat the cabin, no lots of traffic lights or high speed roads. I took a trip from Croydon to Sidcup, 9am on a weekday morning with the above and got 53mpg, way over the quoted figures but it was hard work making sure to keep it on electric power as much as possible. You want good economy on the motorway then you need to keep the speed down, travelling at a steady 60mph on a flat road is 45mpg. I can get 30mpg on short journeys that would be 16-20mpg in a normal car, long journeys an easy 35-38mpg. Every Lexus I have owned I have been able to get to the figures on certain journeys. The Mercs I have owned though..... Hmmm never have even managed to get to their Urban figures no matter what I do! Lexus give you a choice, drive in a very fuel concious manner and get great mpg or just enjoy and not care and get average mpg. Trust me when I say both will be higher than comparable cars from say MB driven in the same manner.
  13. Hybrid MPG is affected more by the driver than the car - make sure you have the car in Eco mode, check tyre pressures and pay attention to the display showing where power is coming from - when at a 30-40 mph steady cruise you sometimes need to ease of the accelerator and then gently press back to make sure only running on battery. If in a traffic light jam switch into electric mode so engine doesn't cut on every time you move forwards. Route planning and time is everything, slow but constant moving traffic is the best economy, the same run getting caught by traffic lights, pedestrian crossing etc. can have a significant impact - a 9am run from Croydon to Sidcup in the RX (with a warmed up engine) got 52.8mpg, after 25 miles on the motorway (65-70mph) after that it was still 43.7mpg Braking and accelerating are the things that ruin economy, try to read road ahead and minimise both. If you want an easy win and the weather isn't hot just turn the AC off. Hybrid systems help in stop start, low speed steady traffic - they excel in towns. Motorways are their biggest weakness, the hybrid system does nothing to help and just results in extra weight. Could easily get 30mpg on motorway in my ISF but my short town work journey would be about 18mpg compared to 30mpg in the RX, in between those cars I had a 1.8 turbo Merc C Class (C250) rated at 45 urban, 60mpg extra - struggled to get 40mpg with AC off on the motorway and that short town work journey was 16-20mpg! TLDR - Hybrid for town, short, low speed. Diesel for motorway, killing people with NOx....
  14. History channel in UK has been running the new season 26 of Fifth Gear, episode 3 has a good battle between the two. If anyone has Sky catchup it's available on demand still.
  15. Think this has been helpful to Lexus in some ways although very hurtful in others - they have said they weren't going to follow other manufacturers with plug ins so they would have been suffering from other manufacturers getting more and more zero rate cars compared to them (especially things like Mercedes ML) however the premium hit for a car costing more than £40k is going to hurt (and I think stupid, it should have still followed some form of emission based - a hybrid RX same as a V10 Lambo?!) Only bright side is it may encourage cars around that price point to be reduced - expect the NX Premier to become £39,999 :)
  16. Please be careful having different tyre season types front and back (if that is the case) different grip levels between front and back in certain conditions is very dangerous. I would make switching the front two a very high priority before any hint of bad weather.
  17. My ISF went to Lexus Sidcup, great service - have been with the same person there for many years (they were at Lexus Croydon but moved there so I started going there instead)
  18. £70k does seem way over the top, this gen maxed out with all options inc active suspension at £63k. There does seem to be a trend at Lexus for a stupid price hike for Premier spec, way over the value of the options it adds but the only way to get them. Know it's a way off but suprised no one has mentioned the Tesla Model X, prob a year till available here but given the prices Lexus are talking a potential 3.3 second SUV with about 270 mile range that can be charged for free becomes very interesting :) Personally think the RX450h price is going to be too high, they seem to have pushed it higher to give themselves more space for the NX and the RX200t. Just too many very nice cars you can get once it move to the £70k area.
  19. Got the side monitor on mine, only really use it for checking how close to lines in car parks. You only get passenger side, you have button on steering wheel to activate, you can set it to automatically come on at low speed (but gets annoying quickly), display on Satnav screen so it's either rear cam or side. The HUD is very nice and I miss it when in another car, that said I didn't like it totally at first as the reflection on the screen of the plastic housing is annoying. Mine also has the active suspension which is an option on the SE-L to replace Air, seems to make a bit of improvement when cornering compared to my previous RX300 but sure Air is smoother. The slightly later SE-L (6 months after launch) also got the rear entertainment More info on differences here: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/94267-rx-450h-series-3-equipment-specifications/ Overall I like my toys including the ML stereo :) Premier was my choice and no regrets!
  20. Looks like I picked up a slow puncture on FL tyre, as have been contemplating an All Season tyre for a while now, thought it a good time to swap all round. After lots of checking of sites ended up going for Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season - so far very impressed, much smoother than the previous Bridgestones. Will keep this thread updated as they combat the various seasons :)
  21. For me I'm glad only 5 seats, this continuing trend of cars getting larger and larger is very annoying esp in UK. What they should do is release one of the two larger SUV models(with 7 seats) they do elsewhere here once they do hybrid version to fill the gap.

Welcome to the club :) Unfortunately motorway driving is where the CT will be worst for fuel economy, it can't use the batteries so it's just the petrol engine all the time. Guess if you stick to 70 or lower then you should get about 45mpg, on the bright side the other 30% of your driving you'll be getting much higher 😄
  23. The lights staying on when you turn the car off is wierd unless they stay on post getting out the car as a follow me home mode, having to open the door is silly. Personally major fan of auto lights and think they should be mandatory, number of people I see driving around with no lights in the dark because they have forgotten to turn them on is quite a hazard. Do however think they should come on at a much more sensitive light ️Level if you are using your windscreen wipers - quite often end up turning mine on manually in poor weather even though the system still thinks it isn't dark enough to require.
  24. Was talking about my RX450h, always confusing when have more than 1 against a profile - list them in sig instead :)
