  1. Hi rock on, Good to hear it's still running well but only to be expected as it looked a really good car when I saw it nearly 2 years ago. Since then I've had a 51 Merc C class which I sold after 4 weeks, a 53 Merc E 200 which developed a brake problem and the dealer refunded my money after 2 weeks of ownership, a 99 Honda Legend which was sold after 3 weeks when I found a gearbox oil leak and the LS430 went last Nov after nearly a years ownership. Since Feb, I've been running an 07 Merc E280 V6 3 ltr petrol auto in beautiful nick, nice and smooth and quiet, but doesn't compare with the refined silence of an LS
  2. There is a 1/2 inch drive socket with spring loaded pins with a range from 9 to 22mm nut size available from most outlets, machine mart/halfords/local auto store etc for about a tenner which does the job if the locking wheel nut adaptor is lost/missing. Plenty of good photos on their web sites.
  3. If the auto oil pan is steel then why not stick a couple of button type magnets on it and this will attract any metal swarf and stop it from being sucked through the gearbox. Auto box pans I've dropped had magnets inside and they all had a small pyramid of swarf on them. Drain the oil, top it up, use it for a week, do the same again and you should have a good percentage of fresh oil dilution. If its not leaking, don't give yourself the hassle.
  4. This is now on ebay with seller location in Duns near Coldstream in the Scottish Borders (Jim Clarks Museum is located there). Business address on bottom of posting is Daljit Trading, Vivek Saddi Kent DA11 9PH. User name 7th.sky
  5. "Rubber Brake Pipes". Do you mean the flexible brake pipes? Take your old ones to your local motor accessory shop/motor factor and they will match them up from their stock catalogue at a much lower price than OEM/Lexus and just as good.
  6. http://s778.photobucket.com/user/39buss/media/IMG_5894_zpscs5kubxa.jpg.html http://s778.photobucket.com/user/39buss/media/IMG_5893_zpsxglo6fvx.jpg.html Here are two pics of S/C motors.
  7. I posted pictures of this a while ago. Yes, 2 separate motors and the in/out one can be turned with a 10mm spanner on the square section of the threaded part.
  8. I put second hand used GS300 struts on my MK 3 LS400 which are about 1" shorter but did the job. If I remember rightly there was more of them and cheaper on ebay.
  9. Lexus VSC.pdf Hope this PDF opens. I had the same bother when an LPG op plugged his laptop into my MK2 GS300 and Tigerfish, on the GS300/430 forum sent me this. You have to short pin numbers Ts14 and CG4 on the OBD socket with a paper clip. 1. Igition OFF 2. Bridge pins 14 and 4 3. Igition on (DO NOT START ENGINE) 4. Leave on for 30 seconds 5. Igition off. 6. Remove bridge 7. Check that lights are now extinquished. PS.....At Stage 3 and 4 the VSC lights will flash rapidly.
  10. On my "02" LS430 I placed a thin sheet of modellers plastic sheet over the bumper and wiggled the light unit over this and it came out without any damage and went in the same way. The plastic sheet is only about 1/16" thick. Don't know of any changes in shape from 02 to 04 to prevent this working on yours. Hope it helps.
  11. Registered on 5/6/2000 so one of the last LS 400's with electric folding mirrors which were fitted as standard on later "V" reg cars.
  12. It may be the rubber mountings on the air pump. It's been known for them to fail through vibration. Is there a fuse for the air pump, if so take it out and see if the noise does.
  13. There's an LS400 on ebay for sale for spares with DHP wheels. Item No. 322370793882 in Essex
  14. Riskegp. Those wheel inserts are probably off an early model. Pictured below are DHP centre caps and are much smaller about 60mm in dia. I have 4 of these so will measure them for you for future reference. There are differences in the wheel nuts as pictured below but not sure if its LS400 and/or GS300. Maybe 17mm and 19mm. I may have some of these in me garage so will look tomorrow. Hope this helps.
  15. Maybe this can help you in your choice. Here is my old GS300 mk2 with 17" DHP wheels on the front and 17" GS optional wheels (as opposed to the 5 spoke standard wheels on this model) on the back. The optional wheels are made by OZ and seem to be more durable against corrosion and scabs than OEM .
  16. I don't have the 430 now so cant have a look for you but I think The-Acre is right. There are 2 screws are in the back of the steering wheel (is there one under neath sunken in the shroud?) and you need to turn the wheel to access them and the shroud unclips with a bit of persuasion
  17. This shows a 2001 LS430. The LS400's use a different motor and set up. I posted these a while ago to show how to manually adjust the in and out movement. Remove the trim under the steering column area and adjust to suit using a 10mm open end spanner on the square at the bottom of the threaded part. That's a spanner!!!....no diagnosic equipment needed. hooray. I think I may still have the motor which I opened up to satisfy my curiosity which just baffled me on how it works. Hope this helps.
  18. Premium Choice of Fort Dunlop, B24 9FD 0121 749 8901 insured my 1999 Legend on agreed value £1000, 3000 miles for £220 FComp. I sold the Legend this week.
  19. I paid £1700 and accepted £1500 which, under the circumstances was ok and I was more than happy with that deal. There was quite a few things that needed doing, which were explained to any prospective buyer. The buyer was the first to offer cash and drive it away. Job done.
  20. I've now sold the LS430 (Bargain or Banger) which I bought just before Xmas last year. After assessing it in the first 2 months of this year I decided to spend nowt on it bar a battery and brake fluid change to be on the safe side. My regular garage put it on the ramps and passed it road worthy so I've used it since March and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It had an immaculate interior and so easy to waft along in silence and second to none comfort. It passed the MOT without issue so I thought it's time to go. I put it on Gumtree and it sold in 15 days with the usual array of time wasters etc. So glad I didn't do that for a living!! I'll stay on the LOC and if a good LS comes up in my area I may not be able to resist.
  21. I put 2 Goodyear Efficient Grip on the front of my trusted BMW E39 523i SE auto months ago and can't praise them enough. I don't think I'll be looking for any other tyres bar these in future on any car I have.
  22. It may be a sensor for the remote opening of the garage door. You could easily pop that gear lever cover off to see if there's any wiring running from underneath.
  23. Hi Tommy,   thanks for the info on the sale of your LS 400 coming up soon on ebay.  I'm busy trying to sell my cars, the LS430 I had on Gumtree went yesterday so the "T" reg Honda Legend is still to sell and I'll be in a position to get 2 cars parked on the available space I have.  My sensible and reliable car is a very nice "W" reg BMW E 39 auto 523iSE so I'm keeping that and really don't want more than 2 cars. I'll look out for yours' and at least I know the car so still hold an interest.  I should have bought it at the time but there you are!!     Regards    Jim

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply,

I'm running out of time at the moment, getting parts bought & fitted to my aristo  hopefully with having two more weekends I may touch lucky.....looks like I will have to stick 6 months tax on it anyway for the 1St of Sept,

I nearly bought a legend a long time ago & I was even closer to pulling the trigger on a 540 bm I'm not clued up on the bm e models having only had an f reg 3 series (e30) I think, the 540 was on a t reg like I said it was a good while back & didn't look to deep into them.

For the first time since owning the ls4 on Fri I actually cleared it's throat with something to test it against I think the other driver was a bit surprised

I was at a standstill at lights saw him coming, stuck it in sport, he was slowing right down from 50+,

as the lights went green side by side floored it & kept with him for some distance before going back to chill out driving leaving him to carry on like a loon,

Without any emblems on the rear of his car & a private plate I did a dvla check once home

2008 s class merc 3ltr diesel I was very impressed it held its own against German technology

Just picked this message up, (computers not my strong point).  The Legend sold in 3 days which I'm pleased about, nice car but very thirsty. Along with a gearbox oil leak, cant believe a low mileage Honda would have an oil leak, it had to go. At the moment I'm tempted with an 03 E Class 2.6 Merc auto 70k and LPG on sale at a dealer near me.  I'll look out for the LS on Ebay.   Regards   Jim

  24. Chances are it will be a straight forward Pioneer tape deck fitted in with the radio to blend in behind the facia. A good car stereo/auto leccy should be able to do that or get one from someone breaking their car. I've got a head unit from a GS 300 MK 2 so will look at that and post a picture to give you an idea (hopefully)
