  1. I've had Lexus and blueprint discs - both lasted the same time. I'm trying pagid parts this time. Pete
  2. Discs don't last too long, so I'd suggest you have a warped one. My car appears to need discs every 20k according to it's history file. I've replaced 2 sets in my ownership so far - starts off with a mild shake on light braking, developing more as mileage increases. Hard braking seemed fine though. Pete
  3. For some reason I can't manage to post pics on here, nor link to where they are - sorry. Pete
  4. It's your car, so it's up to you what you do with it. If I'd listened to folk I'd never have ended up with a 350hp V8 Morris Minor. Pete
  5. I've just done about 650 miles on a trip to Scarborough and back. This is a mixture of motorway and A roads with plenty hills and stop start. I was pleased to average 30.9 mpg - and I wasn't hanging about. I've always been impressed with the fuel consumption - worst was my Austin Westminster - 12mpg in the town. Pete
  6. If you do some research on vehicles with cam chains, you'll find that there are quite a lot of failures with these too - and catastrophic. They are also a bigger job to change as some are service items too (costly). Incidentally, Senators were known for snapping chains back in the day. Pete
  7. Is it using brake fluid? - if so, may be a servo problem. Are there any blocked breathers? I had this problem on one car I had - thought it was a van next to me blowing smoke at traffic lights, but no, it was me. A new one way valve sorted it - crankcase was pressurising. It could be valve stem oil seals, but this seems a remote possibility. Pete
  8. There's no bolts holding the discs to the hubs on mine. I just replaced the discs yesterday with pagid items - time will tell if they are any better than either lexus or blueprint parts. I experienced a slight 'wobble' at round 10k, increasing slightly till replaced at around 25k. I'll probably get the old discs skimmed, but as I was only £95 for a new pair may just renew when time comes. I once again made sure that the hubs were properly cleaned (as I do each time) and now have a wobble free car. Pete
  9. My fronts seem to last ok (15k so far), but as has been said they do wear on inside edge. I swapped mine front to rear yesterday whilst I was renewing the front discs - another excessive wear item on these cars. I think I'll try different tyres next time - mytyres seem to have some good prices just now. Pete
  10. Doesn't look like I'll get 10k out of the rears - down to about 4mm at 6,000 miles use - even wear across tread too. Pete
  11. Hi, I'm running 235/55 x17's. The 914's seem to be wearing better than the 912's, but time will tell as the previous tyres suddenly started disappearing when you get to half worn. If I get over 10k out the rears I'll be delighted. Pete
  12. I discovered my NSR bearing was slack at my last MOT - just tightened it up and all seems fine. Never had bearings do this before though, but thought no harm in tightening it and see if a problem develops. That was 7 months ago now, and nothing untoward has happened. Pete
  13. I've not noticed any difference in ride, grip or handling. Wear rate I'm not sure of as yet. I'll let you know when I have to change them. Pete
  14. Just make sure you don't over oil it at service time otherwise you'll be cleaning your throttle body etc as the excess oil will be sucked through. I fitted one to mine last service and can't say I noticed any difference. Pete
  15. I've heard of this, but despite my cleaning discs with course grit wet and dry I'm still getting a wobble, so I'll get a new set and skim the old ones. Pete
  16. LS 400 Mk4 Washer bottle float 'sunk' so light on in dash - can live with it, but there are easy fixes Temperature illumination - both not illuminating - 1, then the other a while back, again can live with it Rust forming on top edge on roof above front windscreen - both sides - window out and treat and respray should cure for a while Brake discs warp quickly (genuine and blueprint) - replaced 1 set, now needs another - around 20,000 miles a set. Pete
  17. It's a 10 minute job, but headlight unit has to come out. Getting indicator unit out is the hardest part of it - needs pried out rather than pulled. Pete
  18. I put pics regarding this small modification to wipers on this site a while back. Pete
  19. A few of my mates recommend Turriff tyres and exhausts for custom systems. They seem to get good reviews. For some reason I couldn't attach a link, so just google them. Pete
  20. I'd get that repaired - not a big deal for a good body shop. It would probably cost about £200. Pete
  21. I fancied one of these for my wife, but another V8 may be 1 too many. Pete
  22. I had my fluid changed when I purchased the car 4 years ago - filter too. It wasn't cheap, but then peace of mind usually isn't. Having had an auto box ( Borg Warner 35) fail in the past, I'd rather prevention than cure. It's the same with engine oil - it does degrade, hence it gets changed. Pete
  23. I stay in Broughty Ferry and I'm sure I've seen this one too. With the state of the roads I don't how it could have been clean though - mine certainly isn't just now. Pete
