    French cars have never done much for me but that, beautiful. I've always loved it. Someone round here has a deep burgundy one, fully restored, it's just superb. And why can't they retro build it like the Beetle or the Fiat 500?

    I'm a bit like you in your thinking. The reason I wanted an LS in the first place is because of the classic limo look. To me that went after the demise of the LS430. All LS's up to that point looked fantastic to me. I have seen the new LS which of course is a beautiful machine that is light years away from my budget, but it doesn't do for me what the earlier ones did. Just as well really, by the time I could afford one someone would be spoon feeding me boiled fish for dinner!

    Well done Mike. Piddly advisories for a car of that age. Most other makes would have a list as long as a giraffe's trousers!

    As far as I'm aware the bank 1 sensor is fairly straightforward (I hope) bank 2 means a massive amount of work removing the passenger seat, how ridiculous. I see on some US forums they simply cut and join the wires making sure they're water tight saving 2 hours or more of back aching work. I'm going to make sure it's definitely the sensor before attempting it.

    Thanks for taking the time (and everyone that's contributed) At least I know my bank 1 upstream sensor is OK for a bit! And I think the downstream sensor is a tad cheaper.

    So when the code indicates bank 1 sensor 2 is that referring to the drivers side? In which case the wrong sensor has been replaced which explains a lot. it also explains Roberts questioning about a Jaguar specialist looking at it!

    That would explain a lot! I did contact my local Toyota dealer who sometimes get me Lexus parts and they did say it was the upstream sensor that was bank one. Now I'm really confused!!

    It is the upstream sensor that's been replaced. Bank 1 sensor 2 (the drivers side) The faulty sensor was also verified by erasing the code and then disconnecting the sensor and diagnosing again if that makes sense.

    It's only what I was told but a new filter and the correct oil can never be a bad thing. I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about unless it happens daily.

    As far as I'm aware the exhaust system is good. The last main dealer service was 2k ago and I would hope any exhaust problem would have been identified! The VSC check was on again this morning, then an hour later it wasn't. I scanned it and it came back with PO138 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 which is the one replaced. The mystery continues.

    That's what I'm thinking, in which case why does it come back on. I saw the new part and I was there for the fitting.

    Thanks for the replies. Mark, it's on my GS300. The Jag guy is a friend and has excellent diagnostic equipment because he works on many different cars. I do have my own OBD11 reader, I'll try that in the morning to see what that shows. The fuel cap thing features a lot on US sites so I'll give that a go as well, especially as it happened the day after I filled up.

    In another post I mentioned the check VSC appearing in the first few days and the dealer agreeing to pay for the repair. My local Jaguar specialist read the fault as 02 sensor bank one sensor two. An OE part was fitted, I did about 50 miles and all was good, until this morning when it came back on. Any thoughts on this? The car runs fine.

    And will it have a parts department? For me the closest is Guildford or Southampton so Gatwick would be easier.

    Trying to clean the back window is hard enough, I can't image how hard tinting must be.

    I must say I'm finding the GS a fab car. The only thing I need to do now is sort out the apperntly very common dash creak.
