  1. The windscreen is bonded and needs to be left to set for a few hours. Failure to do this will produce wind noise. You need to take it to somebody that knows what they are doing but it doesn't have to be a main dealer. My local Lexus dealer just sends them to a specialist anyway. MOTs are fixed price. A main dealer cannot charge more than the price fixed by the government. Service costs are around £150 for minor and £250-350 for major depending what needs doing. Only when plugs or cambelt need replacing do the service cost go very high.
  2. It's not uncommon for Lexus to have yearly updates. They are minor changes like a new exterior colour option. It's also more common on new models as things are improved. The SC430 had suspension changes in the 1st and 2nd year of production in an attempt to improve ride quality.
  3. That's 7 more years than they give for the 430 engine, they must be confident of its reliability. I suppose with the stress shared by two types of propulsion, it provides an easier mechanical life. bill I think it is more to reassure customers of the hybrid system. I can see them having to replace quite a few batteries in the warranty period. The car is probably priced to include another set of batteries.

  5. Does your average mpg go down when you are at a stand still? I don't believe it does and therefore it is taking it into account. When I have to wait in traffic in my non-hybrid vehicle the average goes down and down. It's just your instant mpg figure that isn't accurate.

  7. I would imagine the same brakes are used across the IS range, including other countries. If that is the case they can handle the IS350 which has over 300bhp. I know about the performance enhancement of the 220d (should be around 220 HP and 0-60 mph in 7.5 sec which is even better than the second gen IS300) , but I have not heard anything regarding the 250. Could you tell us more about this? Here is the answer I got from TTE last week: We have a performance kit for the 177PS D4D models under development and try to introduce it within this year. Unfortunately we do not have any datas for you so far. I would imagine if they are going to do anything with the IS250 it will be a turbo/SC add-on. Very little can be gained by tuning a NA engine.

  9. What model/year vehicle do you have. There may be two fuse boxes, did you look in both footwells?
  10. There are currently 7 GS430 all at £30k and another 10 below £35 at Lexus dealers. They all seem to be old demonstrators. Now that is a great price however I cannot help but think they will be selling for £20k next year so there are still big losses to be made if you purchase one now. On the hybrid warranty issue, Lexus give a 10 year/100k warranty in the US so they must be confident it will be reliable.
  11. I had a look on the Lexus web site last night, I cannot believe how much 430s have lost in value in 12 months. A 12 month old £47k vehicle is selling at a main dealer for £30k, trade in value must be around £26-27k. I imagine the 450h will hold its value better.
  12. A caliper kit won't help this noise. It's not the rubber seals that have worn.

  14. There are 3 sensors not just the one you can see. The 2nd one is not easy to get to being on the other half of the V near the bulkhead. The first two sensors are also Denso air/fuel ratio sensors rather than just normal oxygen sensors so don't just buy a generic sensor, it won't work. Also if you purchase a generic sensor you will probably have to splice the wiring into the old connector. The error code produced will tell you which sensor needs replacing and also what is wrong, e.g. heater faulty, no output, etc. You can clean them but it normally doesn't make too much difference. To clean them you need to burn off any deposits gently using a blow torch. For normal sensors they are easy to test by making the mixture lean/rich and monitoring the sensor output on an oscilloscope or some ODB-II readers.
  15. well the bigger wheels aren't a problem now bought some 18's today oops is that £50 a caliper It's not the rim size, UK Supra wheels are 17". The 4-pot brakes stick out a long way so not many 3rd party wheels fit a UK Supra without spacers. The standard wheel spokes only run 2 or 3mm away from the calipers and they are angled to draw air into the brakes for cooling. As for stoping the noise of your existing calipers you can try removing the sliding pin and packing it with grease. It that doesn't fit it there isn't anything you can do its just wear and not dangerous.

  17. yes I would get the fluid replaced as it would have absorbed water which can lead to poor braking performance and also rust the brake lines.
  18. I don't think the TNS200 will work, isn't that the turn by turn system rather than the full map system? Have you tried another disc first?
  19. You can set the EDFC to have either 16 or 32 adjustments. The procedure should be in the owners manual. Most people say they cannot tell the difference between one setting and another when in 32 position mode. Chips, I'll try and find the stock spring rates, not easy information to find though. I want the CS as I don't really want it much stiffer, just suspension that actually works. I will also go with some stiffer roll-bars to help the cornering. The CS also don't use the noisy pillow mounts.
  20. that doesn't sound good. Hopefully the burning smell was the belt rubbing against something as it started to break down, if that's the case you should just be able to get a pulleys checked and a new belt fitted.
  21. Have you taken you vehicle to be diagnosed? Could be coil packs, plugs, CATs, O2 sensors, throttle motor etc. etc or have you ruled all these out yourself? All of these things would be a more likely cause of the problem, I've never heard of a MAP sensor failing on the IS. If you want to check the MAP sensor I recommend you obtain the correct diagnostic procedure and then check it's readings rather than just trying to clean it.
  22. I would recommend Linksys or Netgear. I personally use a Cisco router but wouldn't recommend them to the average home user as they are much much more expensive.
  23. On what basis are you making this statement? because it's a pressure guage which isn't really affected by dirt and is also not in the direct air flow and therefore not subject to as much dirt. The hot wire MAF sensor needs cleaning because one wire heats and the other one reads the air temperture. If dirt gets on the wires they become more insulated and therefore it goes out of calibration. Things are even worse because the hot wire, in becoming hot, tends to attract dirt which gets baked on.
