  1. I've tried a US key with a UK vehicle and it doesn't work, must use a different frequency.
  2. Lexus cars always rattle. On the US forums they always complain about this sort of thing. Their basic opinion is if you want a reliable car get Toyota/Lexus if you want rattle free get something else. My IS200, RX300, GS300 and GS430 have all had rattles. So have all the loan and test vehicles I have driven (including the LS430).
  3. the turbo will only be full boost it you have the throttle wide open. The IS220D and the Avensis 2.2D use the same engine, a 2.2l D4D. Has anybody been on TOC, do the Avensis 2.2 owners also get poor mpg?
  4. if you look at the workshop manual you will find the tolerances for the speedo, it is designed to read over. The tolerances are different for different countries, for example in Aus the tolerance is much tighter.
  5. all Toyotas rev high when cold. It's their way of reducing emmisions by warming up the engine quicker.
  6. if you get refurbed wheels then they should last longer than if they put on new ones. You only hear of problems on these forums, the majority of RXs have no problems.
  7. there should be two adjusters on each of the lights, one for vertical and the other for horizontal adjustment.
  8. it was the other way around. Pre 1999 it was 9k service intervals and 63k cam belt, 1999 + it is 10k service intervals and 100k cambelt. also pre 1994 it was 6k service intervals and 60k cam belt. Basically they keep extending the service intervals to stay inline with other manufacturers and pressure from large fleet company in this country as they try to save costs.
  9. The first one is more restrictive on the turbos. Removing that gives you a bit more boost without doing anything else as the standard boost controller relies on a set amount of backpressure for calibration.
  10. the speedo is designed to read over. If it was reading 72mph at a real 70mph then that would probably be out of spec and need replacing, it should read 73-79mph.
  11. the range calibrates itself based on the mileage you have just done on a tank. e.g. If I fill up and get a range of 280 miles, I then use the fuel getting the cruising range down to 0 and fill up again I get a new range of the mileage I have just covered, say 275 miles. If I then use up the fuel again, let the crusing range get down to 0 (now covered around 270 miles) and then drive for another 40 miles when I fill up the new range is 310 miles. Basically the range (and the mpg figures) are inaccurate.
  12. Lexus CD Nav discs are available only from Lexus dealers. No other discs will work in the system. If you join our Gold membership you could get 15% off the price from certain dealers. Used ones also appear on ebay now and then, normally when somebody upgrades to the latest disc they sell their old one.
  13. if you compare a photo using genuine ink and non-OEM you can see a difference but for normal use they are fine, although I would stay away from refils.
  14. did you check the gaps on the new plugs? Maybe one or more of them didn't have the correct gap. Why did you go for a colder plug? Do you have mods?
  15. They all do that a little bit due to the small capacity battery fitted as standard however it does sound like your battery needs replacing. If it's the original battery then I would certainly get a new one.
  16. How old was the LS400? They used to has separate alarms/immobilisers which like any third party alarm can be bypassed. All new Lexus vehicles (from 1998 onwards) have immobilisers built into the engine ECU, you cannot bypass them and it is also difficult to defeat them. The LS430 is continually voted the most secure vehicle in the UK.
  17. It has a diagnostic socket but it isn't ODB-II compliant. They use the standard connector because OBD-II is used on export vehicles (e.g. IS200) so use the same part. OBD-II isn't a requirement in Japan, unlike the US and Europe. As the 4 cylinder engine in the RS200 isn't exported there was no reason for Toyota to rework the ECU to be ODB-II compliant.
  18. change the fluid and make sure Toyota T-IV fluid is used is recommended although it sounds like the fluid is draining out of the torque convertor when stationary. How are you checking the fluid level? The vehicle should be driven for at least 15 minutes, move the selector through all positions slowly and back to Park and then check the level, whilst the engine is running.
  19. They look real, Philips BlueVision Xenon bulbs.
