  1. I always used Mobil 1. However the grades are limited in the UK and the 0-40 makes the engine a bit noisy. They also always make the can just a little smaller than you need so you have to buy two and do the garages really use it or just put in the standard oil and keep it for themselves?? I am thinking of using Redline oil. I know their transmission oils are good.
  2. I know people who have from my MR2/Supra days. Only heard good things about them.
  3. The Sat Nav screen runs normal NTSC TV frequencies. I have a NTSC camera and NTSC composite to RGB convertor. When these are connected up you get a perfect picture.
  4. Colin (31) married to Jo and live in Surrey. Kids: Amy (2 next month) and another due in 6 months Work for a telecommunications company as a senior network engineer On my second Lexus - total of 2.5 years. Various Toyota/Lexus for the last 9 years Jo's had her IS for 1 year No mods (only had the 430 for 2 weeks)
  5. At least 4 changes. Mainly changes in the head, e.g. camshafts etc. 1991 engines were around 158bhp, 1994 173bhp and the latests ones are 200+bhp
  6. Are you sure there's a new LS? It's just had a facelift in the US, 6-speed auto, reversing camera etc. They wouldn't do all that if they are going to replace it within a year. The GS had no changes and that is due to be replaced in 2004, maybe as a 2005 model.
  7. Nice to know I'm behind the times :duh:
  8. Good to hear it's all working. I think it's the new style keys that use the CR1616 (GS MKII, IS etc)
  9. I guess the TTE ones will also be discontinued as they are re-badged Eibachs.
  10. Should be interesting, hopefully I will be able to make it.
  11. Most will be company cars so will they be that worried?
  12. TTE do a couple of different spoilers which should be cheaper. The standard one on the sport covers up the rear brakelight (has it's own one built in) so you either need to disconnect the old one or remove it. If you remove it you also need to replace the whole cover under the rear window as it will have a hole in it! The £650 quote may include the new cover? The wheels are OZ Salina so you may be able to get them elsewhere. £1200 doesn't seem too bad a price though. Was that for 4 or 5 wheels? If you spend £25 on GOLD membership you could save over £200!
  13. This law causes problems for turbo timers as the engine is left running. In the instructions they always recommend that the car is not left unattended whilst it is still running, which sort of defeats the object of the timer! However it's main function is to stop the owner from forgetting to idle it. I had one fitted to my MR2T. I never left it running whilst I was out as it just felt too weird leaving it and you were always wondering if it switched off. On my driveway or in the car park at work was fine as I could hear it idling and then suddenly stop a minute later.
  14. If I type in http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk the picture of the SC430 is broken If I type in http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/ the picture is fine. Anybody know the reason? I am using IE and this happens on all machines I have tested it on. If I click on the first link the / is automatically added and the pic is fine. If I then delete the / and press return the pic is broken again. Seems very strange, I have never seen this on another site.
  15. What's involved in fixing the blinkey dash fault?
  16. Don't know whose cat it is. I was sent the pic in an email today.
  17. The Sat nav should add around £500 to the price of a £13,000 car. I don't think they are worth the money in the IS unless you have a real need for it. It's a great system (one of the best standard fit systems) but a bit fiddly to input destinations compared to the other Lexus models as you don't have a touch screen and you don't get any other features (touch screen audio and climate controls or fuel computer). If you do get one with sat nav then try and get an up to date disc as they are expensive to purchase. The cambelt needs changing at 100k so that service will cost above average. I would also suggest you look at an import. However it would be wise to check insurance costs as they can be quite a bit more than a UK IS200.
  18. Even if you manage to get a good finish I doubt it will last more than 6 months before it starts to go again.
  19. I wasn't sure about the rims when I first got the car, not that there was any choice as all the 430s came with the polished finish at that age, but after a week or so I quite like them. Show up all the dirt and water marks though!
  20. I had one of my key batteries go flat on my GS300, it still worked but the range was reduced. I removed the battery to find out the model number so I could purchase a new one but I started to use one of my other keys and never got around to getting a new battery. 8 weeks later I sold my car and whilst getting everything ready I found the old battery and put it back in and tested the key. It worked fine. So there is no problem of the key losing it's code.
