  1. I would imagine a higher mileage exhaust would be in far better nick than one which only does short journeys. Agree it's probably wickedly expensive. If mine went I may even consider a custom made S/S exhaust, surely cheaper than Lexus OEM
  2. I did also and put myself down for 24hrs in an NX though I don't see myself stepping down from the RX, I have grown to love this car, it wasn't love at first sight, it did take a while.
  3. You're coming North in October, mad fool. Actually October can be a beautiful month in October and the colours can be stunning. Enjoy it greatly. Ed Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  4. I'm in Scotland full time and it is hilly but with a gentle foot I've averaged 33.6mpg since December, it does drop int he cooler months and makes up for it with the (Scottish) summer temperatures. Im pleased as my previous Merc C200K Estate was very similar, good on a long run, but around town was 24 mpg. Around town the Lexus still breaks 30. I wish i could just take it off eco setting for a couple of tanks to see how it fared but I'm just a typically mean Scot!
  5. Geoff, those two points have niggled me too, if i find anything I will share it.
  6. Very interesting point re LPG, I had no idea it was so clean on the engine. Interesting
  7. I'd go for the premium product, I use Shell V Power in my cars, can't say it's noticeably better, perhaps a 2-3mpg improvement, but i do believe the added detergents are a plus factor in keeping the fuel and engine cleaner, and, in the grand scheme of things, with an average of 50mpg it's not going to break the bank. There have been too many reported cases of supermarket fuels causing issues, rightly or wrongly, for me to take the risk. I don't want to get in to a heated discussion, just my tuppenceworth.
  8. I had an Alfasud, I'll bet the house that it rusted faster than your Spitfire. Did love it though. It took me a while to grow to love the RX but i do indeed, I bought mine in December, wouldn't swap it now. Hope you grow to love it too.
  9. Very much like the new car but for me it was your lovely Sportcross. I had a 2005 IS300 Sportcross, on reflection the best car I've owned in 40 years. Not to detract from the RX, it's brilliant and just as comfortable, and a lot less juicy! Have heard brilliant reviews of the Michelin Cross Climate but also, the AVon ZX7, a lot cheaper. Enjoy the car and welcome back to the fold. Ed PS, where was the Sportcross photographed, looks a lot like Wester ross?
  10. I would also like to point out Rayaans is quite correct, the exhaustive list is not common, just ideas where to look if buying. My observations from lurking on this site and the US forums as well. Don't be put off, they are really magnificent cars.
  11. I reckon Paul is spot on in his observations though I can't offer any towing comments. It could look a worrisome list but he is just being exhaustive of possible things to look out for. Perhaps the only things I could add are an occasional blip when my radio turns itself off and spits out a CD, mine has done this but only about once a month. I will mention it at the dealer when it goes in for a service in December. I bought a 2010 Sei with 68000 miles last December for £15K. In April, I asked them to look at a couple of rattles. Mostly trim related however one rattle (minor in my opinion at the time) meant they replaced the steering column and rack (under warranty, it cost £3K apparently). Given the above I would say it is well worth obtaining a Lexus warranty, not necessary to buy from a dealer interestingly. After the steering issue I bought an additional 2 year warranty for £940. I love this car, my third Lexus and I won't leave the brand. This car still feels tight, is rattle free, I agree 32mpg is probably spot on, it is the most comfortable car I have experienced and feels like it could soldier on for another ten years. I'm in Glasgow and the local dealer is absolutely brilliant, there are a lot of highly rated Main Dealers out there, if you could go the dealer route you should get peace of mind. Good luck and just take your time. There will be one out there for you. Ed in Glasgow
  12. Michelin firmly state their tyres perform perfectly right down to the legal limit, 1.6mm. Be interesting to see
  13. That's a very pertinent point, well observed. Yes, having had a peek under mine there are certainly items lower than the sill.
  14. Voice recognition, I tried Home and it suggested sports centre, bit ironic for a fat guy....... I gave up too
  15. I had a 2005 IS300 Sportcross which wore 215 45 17 on 7j Wheels at the front, 225 45 17 with 7.5J on the rear. I suspect that would be the same set up as yours. The spare (Full size) was 215 45 17 and the dealer told me that it was ok to interchange on a temporary basis.
  16. There is a TSB about this problem. Just found it. l-sb-0026-11-10-11-rx350-steering-column-rattle-noise (1).pdf
  17. I have personal experience, I bought my 2010 RX450 SEi in December and the car rattled terribly from a number of areas. Glasgow Lexus were as superb as ever and sorted most of them out. I was told however I need a new steering column. Covered under warranty. I spotted on the US site that 2010 did throw up some similar issues so perhaps there is a known problem. I was told it was a £3K fix, that was what made me buy the additional 2 years warranty. Only problem is occasionally the radio turns off and spits out a CD. Not enough of a problem to report it at the moment but i will mention it at next December's service. Still loving the car and now averaging 35 mpg.
  18. I have a 2010 rx450 sei and I am delighted with it 70000 miles with original pads and Discs with only 40%wear. Getting 34 mpg.. I took out additional 2 year warranty for £960 for peace of mind. Only issue I have is very occasionally the radio switches off and spits out a cd. Warranty should cover it if it gets worse. Good luck Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  19. I'd like to thank everyone for their thoughts on this matter. We have a lot of very bright people in the club, I knew I would get an excellent quality of response and that's what I got. Although I paid for an additional warranty till December 2019 I will still ask just how expensive it would be to change it. I don't doubt Lexus build quality but the same oil for ten or more years?? Although the video appears to show a simple process my old Mercedes C Class (also sealed for life) definitely felt better for an oil change at 50K miles. I do intend to keep the car for a good few years (My wife tells me that is the case) so I'm just keen on avoiding any issues down the line. Thanks guys, always brilliant. Ed in Glasgow
  20. Evening, I have a 2010 RX450h and was curious if anyone had had their transmission fluid changed? I know in some cars it can be quite complex but I spotted this on youtube. I dont have the facilities, or inclination to be fair, but was just wondering if anyone else has had their oil changed?
  21. Evening Gentlemen, and Ladies, have noticed a few comments about underbody corrosion on RX models, notably RX450h items like fuel filler pipes. Would using Hammerite paint be a solution? They say it can be painted directly on to rust? Just an idle thought.
