  1. Drilled discs are a waste of money, imho. More likely to warp and crack than solid discs. Unless you are getting a Ferrari where at least they cast the discs with holes in them, drilling holes in a cast iron disc is a waste of time. However, perhaps you are looking for looks over performance?
  2. Some of you may recall that at an Ace Cafe Jap meet a while back, they wouldn't let my debadged GS into the car park as security thought it was a Merc! It's happened again in the ATR. I'm driving round London late last night. I pull up at traffic lights at a roundabout. Next to me a Vauxhall Astra pulls up, driver winds down his passenger window, and says "I like your car, let's do a swap. I have ALWAYS admired Lexus cars". Me and my mates are laughing our heads off, as the lights change to green and I yell out "It's a Honda, not a Lexus!!". The car is not debadged. It was just TOO funny. What has YOUR car been mistaken for?
  3. Dave, What are the T&Cs regarding signing up for this? I have two questions. a) What happens if you can't get the 30 people signed up? Will we get refunded? B) What's the situation if for whatever reason, one cannot attend the event after paid for it? Refund or the booking can be transferred to someone else? Thanks.
  4. These reviewers are hilarious. I extract part of the review (so they like fuel consumption but also don't like it?). Iffy trim in the boot? lol Is that the WORST thing about the car? We like Chassis balance, engine noise, build quality, amazing transmission, unburstable brakes, fuel consumption. We don't like Some iffy trim, especially in the boot, slightly antiseptic image, fuel consumption. Telegraph review of IS-F (extremely positive)
  5. Elephant have a crap reputation. They lure you in with cheap prices. Have you read the small print? No refund of the policy amount. So a month in, if you decided to cancel the policy, they keep the lot. If you have to make a claim (fault or no fault), it's a lot more hassle than with other companies. Slow processing of claims too. Have a look at the reviews on the web, absolutely awful. Elephant reviews Again, if you were to have an accident tomorrow, they cancel your policy and keep the money (after settling your claim) that is. Not pretty good after all! You will find that Bell is part of the same group as Elephant and has the same price, but without the stupid small print.
  6. Not quite that simple as the difference in fuel costs. If only! Factor in the higher depreciation of the IS300, higher insurance costs, higher road tax, higher maintainance and parts costs (especially unexpected repairs), tyres, brakes, and it's not just an extra 200 quid compared to driving something a bit more ordinary??
  7. What does Glass's say a 52 plate IS200 SE with 37780 miles on it is worth? part-ex price is 6400 assuming its a 2002 52
  8. Do you get it serviced at Lexus? If so, you will save money each year by getting it looked after at an independent garage.
  9. My friend has Sport and the other model. Both diesels. It's a nice car ON ROAD, but I found the interior packaging quite poor, especially in the Sport. I'm 6'2" tall, and I had more legroom in the mk2 GS than in the Range. Looks good in black with tinted windows though.
  10. Not anymore. Maybe they've gone to put my new wheels in the post :P Are you surprised after the warm welcome you lot gave haha - well they asked if they could help and we asked questions...... but maybe the questions are too sensitive to get a reply? Pity really as this forum could be a very useful information base for them. We do lose out in a big way when compared to the USA because on a day to day basis there are an insufficient number of complaints in comparison to the UK/Europe. Guess it's just the way Lexus are organised globally. If you take the IS second generation as an example, all the cars marketed world wide are manufactured/assembled in the same two factories, yet the rectification of complaints through the issue of TSIB's is done on a regional basis e.g. why is the TSIB issued to sort out the complaint of excessive brake dust on an IS250 only applicable to the USA when it's obvious to anyone with an ounce of sense that it must apply to all 250's...and 220D's for that matter. Hopefully they'll recognise that even though they deal on a regional basis LOC operates globally and we share everything..... :winky: Whether they'll change their philosophy because of this is a different matter, but if not then the 'Passionate Pursuit of Perfection', or whatever the latest slogan is, means FA . Tango - am I right in stating that North America and JDM are the two biggest markets for Lexus? Lexus GB sales are so low in comparison to those markets, our complaints are not listened to.
  11. From their other post in the LS430 section, it seems they are more interested in hearing about positive customer feedback. "Its fantastic to hear your comments and your satisfaction with the Lexus . Just thought we would let you know that we have won the JD Power award for the 8th year consecutively ! Hope we can be of your assistance in answering any queries . " I'd like to know why Toyota/Lexus sold cars globally with known design faults, that handily arise after the manufacturer's warranty has run out. Mk1 LS400 - blackened LCD on climate control, leaking power steering pump Mk2 GS300/Aristo - brake booster, door actuators mk1/mk2 IS - have already been covered above
  12. Is that not what dealers are there to do? make a profit?, wouldn't be worth selling for £500, especially when the Warranty costs over £600!!!! of course they are there to make a profit. However, it's up to a buyer's negotiation skills as to how much they can haggle off the price. It all depends. If you go in at the end of the month, and they are desperate to shift stock, you may well be able to haggle such that they let it go for 6k. Selling cars doesn't make that much profit for a dealer, it's the servicing and parts where they make their biggest margins.
  13. glass's guide says current trade in price for your car with that mileage is 3,620. private price will be a bit more, and dealer price even more than that.
  14. Glass's guide says the part-ex value of that car is 5500, which means the dealer is making at least 1.5k on this deal. Like Wozza says, HAGGLE it down..I'd offer no more than 6k (given the way petrol prices are rising).
  15. Extracts from the article Irish referendum "The fate of a treaty designed to streamline the institutions of the 27-nation bloc lies in the hands of just over three million Irish voters, less than one percent of the EU's 490 million population." "The treaty would give the EU a long-term president of the European Council, a stronger foreign policy chief with a real diplomatic service, a more democratic decision making system and more say for national and European parliaments." Our House of Lords has voted AGAINST holding a referendum on the EU treaty. See link House of Lords votes against a referendum in the UK
  16. Thanks guys for all the suggestions. For those of you who want a firm that ONLY does windscreen repairs, I spoke to a chap at Glass Doctors and they seem to be very honest (they couldn't fix my chip as it was too big). Glass Doctors The insurer nominated windscreen firm just told me they would replace the screen, without even asking about the nature of the damage or inspecting it to see if it could be repaired. Apparently, this type of behaviour is commonplace.
  17. Bloody hell. I remember the D8Zs being pretty quiet when I had them on the LS. Now, you're saying it's quieter than that! That really is good news.. Try not to fall asleep on the motorway though
  18. Hi Guys, My windscreen on the Type R is chipped/cracked and needs replacement under insurance. I've had replacement screens in another car and wind noise was worse despite the screen fitting well. I've been dealing with idiots in windscreen firms over the phone today who won't use Honda glass or new seals etc. Can anyone recommend a decent place that they have used that won't leave me with a crappy install? Looking at London/Se, but prepared to travel if need be. Thanks, Maneesh
