  1. no nor would i, the prob being, no one knew how old they were, there is a code on them what the fitters read, but i think the general public would'nt know! .even tho the remaining tyre had 5.5mm tread iv changed it
  2. mine works fine it would get you where you want to go just a bit long winded to set up,i tested it on known routes, its been ok but some places i go to don't exist on there but.back in 1998 it must of been a magnificent piece of kit
  3. yes your right the x type was mondeo in drag.the saab was a vectra
  4. i don't think you can get anything right up to date,im sure the newest one is 8/10 yrs,its a cd based sat nav the later ones are dvd based,no updates availiable,'/ mine works ok when i tried it but way out of date regarding roads etc,i use the garmin if i need sat nav
  5. last week i had a flat tyre,as usual it was dark, pouring with rain, anyway i changed it next morning, looked at the tyre and the whole shoulder had worn away and the rubber very thin, had a hole the bit that wore away should'nt,have been touching the road, the tread still got 5mm all over on it,its a michelin pilot premacy tyre,on the car when i bought it,and they looked almost new,and the vendor said they had not been on long,i check my tyres regularly, and nothing untoward until now.worried i had a suspension fault or something like i took it over my mates stuck it on the lift checked the suspension bushes etc with bars etc, nothing amiss.so today i go to get new tyre showed them the tyre, the fitter after i asked his opinion how this had happened, had a look around ,then it turns out both the rear tyres are 14 years old,so i had a couple of falkiens fitted.turns out the previous owner had bought these online, second hand but never used, just goes to show how careful you to have to be,cos these tyres look brand new,and look to be ok and to be fair they have been ok but a hidden danger
  6. its quite depressing reading this, you are looking at, and comparing lpg installations,i really think you need to get out more,i think im in agreement with paul and ambermarine
  7. i had that happen on mine once ,the trip stayed at the same mileage,i knew how much id put in,it went down to zero, for a while,as id put in six gallons i assumed it would be ok, it was,it reset ok at next fill up,i think if i remember my light comes on at 50 miles
  8. i agree with you pete, both the LS400 iv owned have been reasonable to run
  9. i put mobil1 fully synthetic 0w/40w in mine its been okay,it cost about £30,it does'nt use any oil,i only do about 5000 miles a year.i was going to use 5/30,but the oil specialist i use locally put it all info into computer came out with this,as he said oils have improved considerately since 1997
  10. hey mr bassman, fabulous car you have there, hope it goes to good home quickly, for you, good buy for anyone in the market.im sure you will miss it.hope all goes well for you in the future
  11. the only way to buy cars is to go and look at them in the flesh, get a feel for them.see if everything works, once you know what you are looking for, look at the history /invoices you can get an idea off adds, but thats all, that 430 looks good for money ,some ls400 are more.new mot.so it needs cambelt .500approx see if meet you halfway.if you ultra fussy then you better go pay full wack at lexus dealer.thou most 430 are too old now to be there, and as they get older. less likely to get lexus service,it all depends in the end what you have to spend,i know people moan about dealers but like every thing there is good and bad,you have do do the legwork, they dont come to you
  12. if it was ok before, and they have fitted starter motor, and now it makes noise it should'nt,you don't have to be einstein to work out that they have dropped something into engine, getting them to admit it, is your problem, you will have to pursue this'right to the top if they won't.its scandalous from a lexus dealer i hope you get a proper response from them tomorrow, don't put up with any excuses best of luck
  13. sometimes it a balance weight ,sometmes not enough clearance,on some wheels
  14. its usually surface rust on top of shocker, seems to be quite common when i looked a a few, earlier in year, comes off with a bit of wd40.i think the horns are shiny because the plastic trumpets have been removed, looks ok car prob worth a look if you in market
  15. yep.happy days,i took it in part exchange for my e type,i needed £1500 for deposit on a house, cos i was getting married, ended up with this and £1800,great car, mine was 1970 had disc brakes, and later 7.4 litre engine, lime green, black vynyl roof, interesting car,had chain drive from hydromatic transmission to front wheels, had it for a while, till the kids come along, then i got a toyota crown custom estate, always like the american cars, owned a few since
  16. i bought a mk4 at beginning of year for under 1500 might not be absolutely mint, but still very good, had a years mot recent service and cambelt, lsh, most high priced ones are for sale for ages, whilst they are fabulous cars ,not too many people want to drive a 13/15yr old v8,so there is a limited market ,dealer cars especially you can make offers on,iv seem a few for sale and prices are all over the place, alot of private sales start at high money, then go to ebay and go for alot less at auction
  17. i agree, looks a good car,and sensible price,i changed to a mk4 this year, from a k reg,but the older ones seem to have a charm, that the newer ones lack, imo ,a good usuable classic to enjoy,as malc says any accident will render it a write off,as it will be uneconomic to repair
  18. i was driving thro the new forest a31 at around midnight the other night ,back from poole,i was cruising at 70/80 in supreme silence and comfort,on a clear bit i floored the loud pedal, amazing how quick that old barge can get you up to licence losing velocity, and still very composed and smooth, that engine is a lovely bit of kit
  19. yes the prices for good cars are high ,some 430 are coming down to the same price ranges, and they are a little more modern, really. mine prob be ok for ages yet, perhaps the the 460 in range for me in a couple of years.,at the mo i am more than happy with the mk4
  20. i am very happy with mine, the cars had k2 spent on it in the last 18mths,new suspension bits, cambelt, discs, brake pads, tyres, steering rack repairs, lexus service, thou iv just changed oil and filters myself, hopefully be ok for a while, but the new mot regs makes it harder to keep old cars on the road, and if you change, some big engine newer cars have got £500 road tax on them, just looking to the future really, gone seems to be the time when you could buy a big engine car cheap and run in to the ground thou you stand a chance with an ls
  21. sooner or later its going to be more difficult to kept the mk4 up together ,some parts going to be problem.is it natural progression to go to 430,can you still work on them yourself, cos you can do alot on mk4,unless your car immaculate, its a bit exspensive to keep going to lexus, and in the real world s/h only going to make small difference to resale on old car, mines pretty good at mo,but 15 yrs old,and a daily driver for me,different i know if its a w/end or highday car ,my old k reg was still going strong, but they get a bit tired looking, whats peoples take on this?
  22. its usually 10mm ,you dont bend that with spring, you can bend it gently, but tight bends you can get a plastic former to do it,they are quite cheap, there are small benders ,all depends how much the pipe is,whether it would be worth it.
  23. i think this sort of behaviour is best avoided with any ls,before long people will be fitting towbars and extended mirrors to go shed pulling and hold up traffic, beware its a slippery slope,it should'nt be done
