  1. this has gone right over my head,i may have to take a tablet
  2. you need to go and have a look at a car ,read the paperwork etc not make assumptions on a descriptions, these cars are now 15/20 years old,its not like buying a newish car from a dealer,as they get older, the less likely they will go to lexus for a service, and a lot of members on here do lots of things thereselves, the last service i had at lexus, basically oil and filters, came to £366,on a car worth anywhere between £1000 and 2000,not really economically viable,so people look for better deals the car looks good, cambelt change should have been done at 60,000,where you need to check paperwork bills etc ,next one due at 120,000,so a way to go yet, change all the oils filters etc for peace of mind.tatty cars are a bit difficult to bring up to standard ,all according what you want it for .it is at the higher end pricewise, but prices are all over the place
  3. your right pete ,she was on top gear many moons ago,the bbc may as well let loose women do it,really top gear as we know it is over ,they should call it something different
  4. originally on this model the cambelt was to be changed at 65k,so may be the 2nd one
  5. joe, i think you may of misread the mileage when the cambelt was changed ,looks like 140k to me.due again at 200k or 2017,if you use the old rule of thumb,i know people have different takes on this.the red one does look a good car
  6. i rather like it ,l'm like mikeyv i have a liking for big ol jap cars, its different
  7. top gear its not really a car show, its an entertainment show that involves cars, its for people with no attention span, but there is no real demand for car shows except for enthusiast, would only be a small audience.at least there is a classic car show, and a lot of the content is interesting, people driving fast around airfields and racetracks does'nt give any indication of real world car usage i watch wheeler dealers, for the love of cars, chasing classic cars, and things like fast and loud, none of them are perfect but a lot better to watch, while the wife got her soaps on.to be fair jodie kidd can drive fairly well, she done quite a few races in the past
  8. there is no need to remove tray to change oil and filter,iv done mine twice, there is a screw or bolt to be removed on the flap and a flap hinges towards front of car,its not that apparent on a quick look underneath
  9. i use mobil 1 0/40 in mine, never had no probs, it never seems to use any, thinner or low viscosity better for start up,it looks like iv put in stella artois on the dipstick, hope i haven't made a mistake
  10. mine has 17 inch wheels and the ride is not harsh at all, extremly smooth and quiet, especially compared to my old company bmw 530d i drove before, although it the ls do'esnt handle as well, but i would rather have comfort
  11. it can't be 1994 its obviously a mk4,its 1999 according to the description underneath, the z plates are indeed irish, but its been reregistered ,someone bought the plate so its not age related.my car has a z plate,it was changed about 5yrs before i bought it ,the old plates are still in the boot. looks a nice car jonathon, are you building a collection
  12. seems strange,a friend of mine has a volvo s80 bi fuel, this has the petrol and lpg filler under the fuel flap,he uses no adaptor, its how it came out the factory for use in uk .you would of thought a car thats built by a manufacturer would conform to all regulations
  13. in defence of diesels,i had 2 bmw 530d company cars, before i retired, and iv got to say they were absolutely faultless,i used to to 40/50,000 miles a year, fantastic performance, approx 45mpg,little noisy in morning at start up service intervals at about 16/18000 miles, depending how you drove it, servicing exspensive, but i never had to pay for it, i got an ls400 when that went back,i don't think i would want an 18 yr old diesel bmw toyota don't seem to be very good with diesels, the one in the amazon landcruiser is a bit archaic, fhe d4d in the hilux and colorado landcruiser are good but not that refined, you would'nt want any of these in an ls
  14. im sure there was a video on here a while back showing how to check and adjust it, and grease it up,should be able to find it with a search,i would have thought
  15. the cx ,it also had one of the most overly designed ashtrays ever fitted to a car, well mine did, great big chrome ball on the top of dash in middle
  16. i had a ds estate late 70s,early 80s,called the safari, fantastic car for its day, could get the two kids and 2 old english sheep dogs in it the single spoke steering wheel, and the swivelling headlights i liked, the button on the floor for the brakes took some getting used to ,my wife had 2cv then progressed to gs estate,i had a diesel cx safari after the ds quite a car when it came out in the fifties
  17. mine used to creep, but not always, but since replacing brake shoes in the rear disc's,and a new cable its no problem, the parking brakeshoes have not a lot of meat on them even new, usually a really good clean up,new springs etc,can get them up to good efficency, mines a ls 400 mk4 ,i think most electronic parking brakes work on hydraulics,i may be wrong
  18. the old dear passed the test again with no problems, last year i had two advisories,re parking brake and nearside bottom balljoint,i fitted new brake shoes, cleaned it all up,fitted new balljoint a bit back, im pleased to look forward to another years motoring now,had the oil and filters done at the same time,so all good to go.always a bit of a fingers crossed time with an old cars, but all is well in my lexus world tonight
  19. there is no need to remove the underside tray to change oil filter, there is a screw to remove and a flap will hinge down to gain access to filter
  20. i think it looks pretty cool, obviously the bags or compressor needs sorting,as you say you only slam it for effect/shows etc, otherwise the height is usually adjustable, pretty common in the states.it looks like it was done professionally at one time, quite good info on the company that done it in the advert on ebay
  21. it does say its stored in garage in london long term,i used to live in a block of flats which had underground parking we had two allocated spaces, it looked pretty similar, sometimes there is no alternative but to park in a place like that
  22. i bought a k reg about 6 yrs ago for about £600 with 242000 miles, put another 28000 on it in 2 yrs, sold it for same money, hardly spent anything on it,good cheap motoring, lets face it these are in banger money territory, there either bought by people who will drive it into the ground or till something major goes wrong and throw it away,or by the gentleman enthusiasts who occupy this forum its just an observation but in spite of all the wonderful comments about ,how we all consider them one of the best cars in the world last for ever ,overengineered etc etc not too many of you will buy high mileage examples. lets face it even at 1200 and last for a year is still very reasonable compared with a new car and you arrive in style
  23. very nice to see you back,as everyone says, once you have had, one, difficult to be without one.i drive and road test new cars at work, mostly renaults ,nissans vaukhalls, and volvos, and the old ls400 never disapoints on the drive home after driving all those new cars
  24. i have 17" dhp wheels i got 2 falkens fitted a bit back,they were £110 each they seem fine,enjoy your car
