  1. hi martin i would be amazed also, if you had that prob, these engines seem bulletproof,my last one had nearly 250,000 miles on it with no probs, only the white condensation smoke on colder mornings, does it used any oil,may be burning off residue in exhaust, has it been used on lots short journeys, perhaps cats a bit dirty, its certainly not a known problem
  2. i have seen those banger boys ,i think the engines changed to give more clearance between it and the front, just in case they hit something, that programme would upset alot of people on here, as the man said they are a big old tank probadly good for bangers ,I do find that programme disturbing when lexus involved thou, still its going out with a bang
  3. its better than walking, thats all i can say,if you had one of these you know your reaching the end of enjoyable life, just imagine going out of front door and thats your car in the drive, god is this the future!,im going to have to have rub down with the sporting life now
  4. i would'nt of minded really, but this is a national company i'd already had two missed appointment, was'nt cold caller, you would of thought someone would of said to him ,apologize keep them sweet, etc but no,they send this clown,no empathy at all there, then
  5. i feel i have to get this off my chest, today i had someone call on me to give me a quote for some cladding,i opened the door, and his opening gambit was ;thats a right old clunker you have there, its massive;this from a person wearing a purple shirt ,shiny pointed shoes, driving an astra, then on the way out, he said ,you dont see many old tanks like this any more ,it would be good for banger racing ,needless to say he wont be getting my business,i felt like decking him obviously not listened to the training lessons
  6. i have angle grinder ,reciprocating saw and welder,if you having trouble fitting it i, could help you get it in
  7. i have had two bmw 530d as company cars, and i have to say they were both superb cars, the 2002 last of the e93 shape the nicest.the 2005 looked odd,lot more firmer suspension, very econonical, very fast .done over 120,000 in both .now im retired don't want to spend that sort of money on a car,so a ls400 is good value for me,don't cost much to buy,or run really,a reasonable amount of cash to keep nice, and a lovely car to drive,my missus has 2yr old fiesta alright little car,but awful getting in to after mine these bm's and mercs are now serious money to buy new, some of the long term tests i read in mags the options on some cost more than my 2 cars,i enjoy my car every time i go out in it,
  8. the original ls 400 was streets ahead of the opposition mercs included, when it came out,the merc was quite a squarish design quite spartan inside, strangely enough the new one of 1992 i think it was, look a lot more lexus and had more creature comforts, most of which you had to pay extra for,the lexus looks the way it does because its very efficent cd wise, its what makes it quiet, the others had to really up there game to keep up.lexus have gone back recently their new cars whilst good not game changers anymore, resting on their laurels, same horrible aggressive noses as all the competition.iagree with you bren about the badge snobbery. i think some people would buy a dog t--d if it had bmw or audi badge on it
  9. fantastic place to go ,i went couple of times in 1966 and 67,on my old rocket gold star, saw one of my personal heroes mike hailwood in action,as for joey dunlop it was sad he died, but a man who lived life on his terms, doing what he liked best, nothing sad about that ,truly an inspiration, the dunlop name lives on after this weeks action, been some good coverage on tv
  10. i've owned alot of toyota crowns in my time, great cars at the time, prob why i got to lexus ls natural progression i suppose
  11. what a fantastic little truck, lovely to see something rare and completely different
  12. that is too much for car with that year & milage, maybe if absolutely pristine, very low mileage, i bought a 1994 last year, with 6mths tax for £675 or thereabouts last year, with the same fault bit more mileage, like the other guys said you can get a mk 4 for that,in fact my mk4 was was purchased for a thousand less than that. i know i was in right place at right time etc, but the bargains are out there, quite a few good cars out there for sale on ebay autotrader good luck ray
  13. that would be ok for me,be better if this thread could be moved somewhere a bit more noticable, don't look here very often, get afew more people interested
  14. that is a very nice looking professional job,im wondering whether to get lpg on mine i don't do alot of miles now ,but that sort of economy is good, i don't see me selling my car anytime soon,i believe 9000 miles is the break even point is that correct,my cars done 137000 miles so probadly worth doing still if i keep it for a few years, which i intend doing,ls400s spoil you for anything else.i did look at a 430 earlier in the year, but it was'nt any better or any worse really, so i did'nt bother,so i might get a quote from profess.absolute luxury with economy seems the way to go
  15. how about 8th or 9th june or w/end after,or anytime in june would be ok for me,just meeting up for a day are we
  16. i would of thought the problem is just the use of a 15yr old tyre, especialy if you had alignment checked, that does seem quite old for a tyre
  17. i had the same thing with saga after first year, went up a considerable amount, phoned them about it,would'nt do anything,so as you say straight on to insurance comparison sites for quote,i do most years anyway now as a matter of course, now,
  18. sometimes even thou you can hear compressor working, is it pumping out enough air,the ones on range rovers used to sound like they were working but worn out inside you could repair those,i don't know about the lexus, obviously on yours it sounds like no airs getting to rear
  19. happy days, prob golden age of motoring, not all the rules and regs, not so much on roads, tho you had to be handy with spanners cars were,nt really reliable, but it was just great having a car back then
  20. yes, iv used starting handle a few times, when i started driving 1965, most of the cars i could afford then come with handle very useful in those days, cos the battery would'nt last long, useful for timing the engine as well, changing the points another lost art,i think the last time i used handle was bck in late 80s on a land rover.like iain when i was a boy my dad was always stripping cars, rebuilding engines,i learned so much from him,it was him i have to blame or thank for my passion of cars i had a 1937 rover 10 once that had preselector gearbox and freewheel, don't see them anymore
  21. your not the only one,i dunno who bought what, either,i may be having a senior moment, but im glad its not just me whos confused
