  1. Ask the people who fitted the last lot what 'the run out ' is using a dial gauge against the disc. Compare this with the allowed limit. Was the hub cleaned before fitting? The disc must run true when fitted and neither caliper should be siezed or partly seized. Any play in the front bearings?

  3. According to the w/shop manual, camshaft caps are correct with arrows pointing rearwards.... :)
  4. All three for approx £150, you may wish to try Chis Shipley, LOC member......... ;)
  5. There are 3 manuals for the Ls 400 cost around £150, [one is wiring] expensive but first time you use one, you have most if not all of your money back. They are about 110mm high when stacked..... this is no Haynes manual........ B)
  6. For a quick overtake I put the stick in 2 then clog it, when half way past what you are overtaking knock it back to 'D' ......works for me....scares the Mrs. :winky:
  7. Sometimes it's ice melting off the pipes......mine leaves a puddle during this weather. [the car that is]
  8. Look for a burst brake pipe or hose.......is there any brake fluid in the reservoir?
  9. Try a post to Chris Shipley re manual....... :winky:
  10. If you have the air suspension, it has its' own diagnostic system. Think best to have this diagnosis......there are about 70 pages in the manual for the air supension checks! :duh:
  11. On my '94 MK I have 17" Lexus wheels 8J x 17 The supplier says the offset is the same for MK 1/2/3--------40
  12. Is there no throttle response 800 rpm and above with the engine hot and cold? Does it sound like all the tappets are noisy or just one or two? There are 21 options in the shop manual for 'surging', exactly what has been replaced? If you try to drive the car does it stall?
  13. It's just a try on so when they bring it in at £1 a mile you think youv'e got a bargain!!
  14. The majority of MOT stations I have been too that also do repairs cannot be trusted. They will tell you things are worn out when they have no engineering knowledge other than the training to be a ' MOT tester'. Women and old ladies especially are frightened to death by some of their tales. The whole motor trade is a shambles........read through your posts, for every recommend there are 50 complaints. You take your car to main dealers and it's pot luck if they guess it right, despite all the so called high tech diagnostic equipment. Every year the goverment promises to root out the rogues in all trades, they havn't got the guts...what a joke. This will just be another gravy train for motor trade and the goverment. Try a couple of tips from an old fogey....never go to an MOT station that does repairs and if you want a better lifestyle....... emmigrate. I wish I'd done it years ago. This is a country with a limitless amount of money to keep murderers alive, for asylum seekers bogus or not, but people who have paid tax and VAT all their lives will have to sell their homes if they need long term care.
  15. Welcome to fantasy land!.....my '94 LS gives better mpg than my old Merc 3ltr. estate, but I've never checked the true figures, don't do that much mileage. 63k on my M reg late 94 reg. Dark blue metallic over dark blue.....guess what colour inside..... thats it....blue.
  16. I always try to get my MOT from a station that does not do repairs. Call me a cynic but I think they are less likely to try and con you into repairs you don't need if they don't do any! If your MOT station were happy with the ball joints and they do repairs, the chances are they are OK or they no doubt would try to get the repair themselves. Lexus dealer might be trying it on or just recomend replacement as a matter of routine at that mileage. Sadly there are good mechanics and cowboys, I just hope there's the minimum of cowboys working for Boeing.........
  17. Risky business taking a chance with worn ball joints, the weight of the car is on these, so you have to jack up the wheel and pry at the joint to see wear. Get a second opinion if in doubt.......if one collapses even at low speed it's a hell of a mess.
  18. There are 13 possible faults listed for difficult to start when hot. The first two are water temp. sensor circuit and intake air temp. sensor circuit Next two are, injector circuit and cold start injector circuit. Try these first............ :winky:
  19. Don't know for '96, on my '94 one is under the bonnet and the other is at the bottom of the steering column, fusebox on the right.......might be worth a look.. B)
  20. As above but it might be worth checking the sun roof drain tubes. I've not looked in my boot, but a friends' Calibra had drain tubes behind the side trim in the boot and someone had pulled them up. Roof drained into boot because tubes did not go through the floor Just a thought.... :winky:
  21. Book was w/shop manual. There are three, expensive and complex, but first fix you get from them pays for them....... If you want them try Chris Shipley cheers ;)
