  1. Cheer up, a pal of mine has a Nissan QX [ think thats right, top model anyway] and he was quoted £1400 to change the timing belt! As this exceeds the value of the car, he is just going to run it till it breaks, then bin it. The sad thing is , the car is immaculate with all the toys etc.
  2. Starter might just be jammed, if the car is manual put car in gear and try rocking it about. Are all the battery leads tight up to the starter?
  3. Your on the right track........write down everything plugged in and check for damp anywhere, electric kettle?,central heating pump?.....RCD's trip out for the least thing, it's just a case of eliminating appliances like you were doing, until you hit the faulty one......unless someone has a gadget....... In our house, even with the power switched off ,the RCD trips if you short any wires
  4. I use HP 78, had no problems with non OEM doing any harm. Had occasional badly refilled ones i.e one colour failing too soon. I use them all the time for general use. Critical jobs I stick with OEM. :winky:
  5. That's what I expected!!, but it's only slightly different than the original ride. This is the list of tyres given with the wheels [17" Lexus] Continental CZ91---40 front--49 rear Pirelli P 700-Z-------40 " --52 " Pirell P Zero---------40 "------52 " Bridgestone RE71---41 "------50 " Bridgestone S-01---41 "------50 " Dunlop SP 8000----38 "-------49 Michelin MXX3------34 "-------43 "
  6. The correct tyre pressure for P Zero's [Asimetrico] given with my 17" Lex. Wheels 40 psi front---52 psi rear
  7. Poor old series two for me..... Changed to Lexus 17" wheels and Pirelli P Zero's from std. Tyres are 235/45/17......recommended pressure front 40psi [2.7] ..52 psi rear [3.5 bar] I found these gave a slightly harder ride 'cos of the lower profile, might be my imagination but they seem to improve when warmed up. Tyre noise not much different, for me, tyre noise virtually nil on a bit of decent road.....have you looked closely at some of the roads? Third world quality, 90% of the time..
  8. Pics. in w/shop manual show 3 fixing bolts and a nut. Torque for the bolts is 29ft-lb [400kg-cm----39 N-m] T for the nut 32 ft-lb [440 kg-cm----43 N-m This is not very tight, is there corrosion on the removed bolts ? i.e rusted in or aluminium corroded to the bolt?
  9. My two 'pennorth on tyre noise..............99% CR*P road surfaces everywhere. Like most things UK now, cheap and nasty comes before quality. Tyre noise drops to virtually zero if you can find a bit of decent road...........
  10. Try the US LOC they have more than us!, along with more info..... :)
  11. Autoglym for me too, with the resin top coat....
  12. Nice!......colour is great... I've had mine a couple of years and I still think it's brilliant.......hope you enjoy. :D
  13. Re 'running in' this is hopefully to 'bed' all running parts to each other with as little wear included as poss. Really a kind of final polish, the best way to polish metal is light pressure and a fair speed. So no labouring of the engine at any point for the first 1000 miles and no redlining it! Then oil change at 500 and a 1000 miles if you are particular. Regular oil changes are the key to minimum engine problems' :winky:
  14. Just another point, I have series two electric diagrams and they are complicated. You will have to think 'right hand drive opposite side' whilst viewing them, adding to the complexity.
  15. If they all sound the same and are not loud, a change of oil might improve it. If it's just an adjustment, long slow job, selecting shims etc. I can hear the tappets on mine but they are not loud........mileage less than 70K
  16. Check these out! http://www.lexls.com/instrumentcluster.html http://apaqdigital.com/ls400/instrument_circuit.jpg :winky:
  17. Just thought, if you get weird warning light and autobox problems, there is a known fault on series one cars where a wire breaks in the boot lid hinge and cocks up the system. This may also be worth a check :duh:
  18. For number nine If the complete instrument panel stays black on cold mornings or until the car warms up, this is the classic fault caused by the failure of 3 capacitors on the circuit boards [2 stacked] behind the panel. I fixed my own following a step by step cure from the USA web site. You can get the caps. from Maplin or your favourite electronics store for about £1 [yes] Try to get the post from the USA site, think it's by Cole Carter. They are fiddly to do, you must be able to unsolder tiny components without pulling the printed track up.
  19. Suggest check all plugs and leads first, how old are the plugs? Try looking under the bonnet ..er hood, in complete darkness, with the engine running. Look for tracking flashes along both banks, not very easy with HT leads shrouded but you might get lucky. :)
  20. I have these wheels on, bought from a tyre fitters in Cannock, via EBAY, collected myself. [2004] I cannot remember the name of the place but there can't be that many. Mine are 17" 235/45.......The part number is PZ405-FO670-ZE [OFFSET 40] [said to fit Series 1/2/3/4 LS 400] These also fit GS 300 JZS147*-B****W
