Aux LS400
JohnDavis replied to JohnDavis's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Well, I tried to fit this on Sunday, but the multi plugs are different - 12 pin not 14 like mine, though they look the same at a glance. I have emailed the manufacturers, who now tell me that it only fits the US version, and they do not have a conversion loom. They should make this clear on their site - Now I must try to get my money back. They have responded quickly so far, so I hope there won't be any problems. -
There is no correct number plate size, as long as the figures themselves are regulation size, oblong or square, and have a minimum border round them, then if you have 'A 1' then you can have the tiniest plate. What are illegal are those miniature plates you see on some Italian cars. A perfect match will not really be noticeable if it's only the inset panel being painted.

No LEDs run cool - that's why they use so little current - it's wasted in a normal bulb heating up the element to a temperature where it will emit light. The 60 watt equivalent LED in my desk lamp is barely warm. That's why they last so long, too. -

I had to deal with this when I converted my Iveco trucks to LED - I wired in an extra incandescent orange lamp as a repeater on the side of the truck bed, you could put one hidden each side in the boot lining . -

Aux LS400

I use my phone for work and it's essential. Bluetooth is good because whatever vehicle I'm in I can listen and reply hands-free. That said it was a gentler world when it was an old jellybone on the hall table. -
The rationale behind giving the car some stick is that the increased temperatures and airflows blow excess carbon out of the combustion chambers ( do it in the dark with a car that's been lazy and you'll see the sparks from the exhaust), impurities and moisture in the engine oil are boiled away, and increased oil flow and pressure cleans out oilways. It also runs some sensors and actuators to their upper limits, keeping them free That said, not all engine designs can take it, so it is not necessarily a good option on older cars, or those that are not well maintained.

Touching the rev limit sometimes is OK, indeed as others have said beneficial, with such a strong engine, but cruising at 150 for a long time would overstress the driver, never mind the engine! Just make sure your cambelt is well in date before you do it. At one place on my drive home from work I turn from a quiet side road onto a wide and well kept main road that's often empty (It's Norfolk, after all) and using the selector I can get 5500 in one and two and 4000 (low eighties) in three - 60 in about 7 seconds - then there's a railway crossing and 40 limit so it's brakes on! Brightens up my journey every time.

New to me LS430

Nice car and looks good in this colour. The rust above the windscreen is probably due to those careless glass replacers who hack out the old screen with a big knife, not even softening the glue first. They want to earn bonus on ten screens a day regardless of the damage. Still, a great car which will look after you! -
The post on LS430 Aux input has kicked me into action on something I have been meaning to do for some time, fitting a USB input to the standard LS400 stereo. It also comes with integrated Bluetooth for the phone. The unit is the Dension Gateway Lite BT and cost just over a hundred quid. It plugs in to the CD input and they seem to know the score on the rather non standard Lexus wiring - this I'll confirm when I fit it.

You're right about costs - I've never found a cheap way of running a reliable car - either replace it when the warranty runs out or spend lots on maintenance, I like the second approach as I get attached to a good car ( and the LS is the BEST car). Buying an old banger until it's MOT runs out is fun when you're 20, but now I want to know I'll get to my destination without oily hands.

I bought 2 new struts about 50 quid on Ebay - worth it and a ten minute job. Now my wife's got her broom handle back. -

I was quoted 5 to 6,000 for a screens out colour change, and as that is the price of a good LS I waited and bought the colour I wanted, (Regent Green) and sold my silver one. -
I have one!

That looks really nice - my favourite colour too, I sold my silver one just to buy one in this colour. The stereo LCD is just a plug-in item - I changed mine successfully with a 10mm socket and a small screwdriver, unlike the lighting which needs soldering if it goes (it often does). It's hardly necessary to say good luck with it - it's an LS400 so it will look after you!
