  1. Reading your article reminds me that apparently there are fake Spark plugs around and I have been toying with which Oil Filter to buy for the next oil change. Seen filters on ebay marked as "Toyota" and with a box, but slight variation in code made me do an online check to see if there are any articles on possible fakes. Research has made me buy from Rock Auto in the hope of getting a genuine product. Many of them on the bay look like added labels. A Bosch filter from Rock costs me under £15 on arrival. If it doesn't look right I'll have learned a lesson.
  2. Need to check that these will fit as per part number as may only be for 89-94 ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274844310727
  3. So, on the straight six I think I have, divided into two blocks of three, an upstream and downstream O2 sensor on Bank 123 Cat whereas I only have an Upstream O2 sensor on bank 456 and now I recall (still sleepy when I last replied) seeing beneath the Car a second O2 Sensor. Having taken a look, that 2nd Sensor is on straight pipe slightly forward of mid door position. Can't see an extra Box and the nearest Cat is angled upward and partly out of sight (assume Bank 2) Paperwork history suggests has had some Exhaust repair work at some time but can't say if a Cat or muffler existed before and has been removed. The Car is very quiet when running, not noisy.
  4. I'll have to have another look but from what I could see under the Bonnet the two Cats are inline with the 02 Sensors, three of which Sensors are visible from the Engine Bay. The diagram is LHD version and perhaps has something extra for California emission Laws? Can't believe there are six 02 Sensors, but who am I to doubt..............
  5. I imagine the low life use a battery powered Reciprocating Saw or similar Angle Grinder. They certainly won't be using a spanner to release nuts. Must make a hell of a noise but in broad daylight I think I've read that these scroats wear Garage Overalls so that people observing assume that they are doing something legit? The Mk 2 GS 300 has its Cats high up in the Engine bay so no worry for me.
  6. Quote " nearly all toyota engines that use a belt rather than a chain are non-interference, including the 4.0 and 4.3 V8sI" Unquote Fear I have been referring to this 2004 thread Colin and a comment you made. Thanks for the correction. The GS300 year 2000 is a VVTi engine so I may get the belt done before a long trip, but there is mention of 100k mile change in this old thread.
  7. I miss my LS400 v8 however I do find this GS300 packs acceleration. (Can be modded to 1000HP I read, not that I'm into that. The interesting thing I also read from Member Colin recently, is that the GS300 altough Cam belt has a non-interference engine. I'd booked the cambelt, water pump etc, change for next week, but after looking at the Cam belt on it and seeing it is a Toyota Belt, I have postponed the change as the Belt in the Kit I bought from Rock Auto I was not too happy about and have just ordered a genuine Toyota Belt via a US seller. The Belt was last changed at 68k back in 2007 and now has 131243 miles. There is a little oil seal leakage seen on the Sprocket but think it can wait perhaps until after we can get to France and back - whenever that may be? 02 Sensor has just failed and VSC two lights have come back on after I cleared them. Will sort next week. Downstrem one will be pig of a job so not doing it myself.
  8. Initially I was referring to a similar car as the one you have purchased, up for sale as per link, should anyone be interested in that model. Before writing the link I waxed lyrical about the issues I have with my Mk 2 GS300 which is why I suppose I was scanning Cars for sale and spotted the Mk 3 version. The Mk 3 is a nice looking Car. I bought during lockdown and regret the only cheapy Lexus that came up locally was the one I purchased and didn't really give it sufficient scrutiny. I'm knocking it into shape at some expense. Didn't meant to spoil your thread. That's amazing mpg by the way. The 3L Mk 2 does less than 30 mpg. Is your Car a straight six or a V6? Significant difference.
  9. There's a cheap one going at Southend on Sea. Will stick with the nightmare Mk2 I bought. Ordered new Tyres, new downstream Bank one Denso 02 sensor and a guy coming at the weekend to give the thumbs down on the non existant Air con. Daresay I could check the Compressor by detaching the plug and establsihing which pin has power and then putting a 12v to the unit to see if it engages? Won't with no coolent in the system. Leave it to the Bod I hear you say. Second Mortgage applied for. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154548211962?hash=item23fbca90fa:g:JvAAAOSwfblhAX6x
  10. On my 2000 (reg Jan 2001) GS300 I used this guys method of removing the VSC lights. Must be two weeks ago and not come on since. Yesterday I noticed my Engine Management Light was on, after a thirty mile trip to Colchester. Day before I had removed the Cam belt Cover and Main engine cover and brushed off dust or Saharan sand which seemed to be what was on the engine. Did I perhaps dislodge the Solenoid valve cable? I'll look today. Question: As my OBD2 port is inoperative I had to use the Diagnostic Port under the bonnet as this chaps VSC removal method. Is there a link anywhere to tell me how to get codes from the Diagnostic Port in the Engine bay?? I want to find out what the error code is, rather thanm just disconnecting the Battery which I have read somewhere will remove the code?
  11. Loaded up a Video of the 1990 Barcelona Concert of Tina Turner last weekend and what a Concert! This track was played by Guitarist John Miles and Timmy Cappello's Sax and keyboard playing was amazing. What a fantastic night that clearly was and this Lady was just dynamite!
  12. Was interested in this thread but find that "Cali369" image of his Cam belt is not found, but an explanation mark replaces. Damn! My Belt was replaced at 68k in 2008 and Car has done 132k. I have purchased the complete parts to have replaced. However, my mechanic seems unwilling or too busy to do the job and I doubt Lexus would touch it with the proverbial, even though I seem to recall a thread once suggesting they had an offer on, with changing a CB. Ancient history no doubt. I will take off the plastic cover and check how it looks at several turns of the engine. Really reluctant to drive to France (should it ever happen) with the existing belt. If its a Toyota Belt and looks good then may have to take a chance. Two dead Cars in France would be just my luck!
  13. My LS having stood for almost a year now in France the only thing I can hope is that the 98 Super I filled up with at LeClerk some two thirds into the trip is all that is left in the Tank. I think the Tank is Metal behind the Seat whereas the GS300 Tank at floor level may (??) be plastic, as it seems to have been plugged at some stage in its life. Put in that position to give extra Boot space I assume, though I feel it is an unsafe place to put a petrol tank imo.
  14. Your Owners manual should tell you how to set speakers, treble, bass and fader levels etc. Your Car may differ from my early LS. Mention of the GS system on page 132 gives info how to adjust. Something about "each time you push the Audio Control Knob". I'm no expert on this and maybe you've already messed with the various settings without joy? Check your Manual.
  15. This, first listed, or maybe a more expensive one that will allow bluetooth for your phone? Might try the more expensive one myself, sometime https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283793712819 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283425400359
  16. You can use the Tape deck with one of those Casettes that plugs into your phone. Not the best sound but Lexus slow at introducing Aux socket to units.
  17. For allparts read "day in the Sun" (or whatever it is) - perhaps!! No chance unless an idiot comes along-
  18. Lovely looking Car - a credit to you. Looks like you live somewhere Sunny. Can't quite fathom why the photo has given some sort of blemish to the Wheels. What is that ?
  19. Could that be an old V5c came with the paperwork? Excorp never traded and was dissolved in 2004. Just one owner since then? Always possible
  20. This guy will help you out with that Malc - from 5.40 minutes to see how it feels https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7gWMgN1NGM
  21. Could have ECU issues? For the car of that age it would be diffouclt to replace if the tracing is bad. I looked at the sellers four negatives - makes me wonder!
  22. My Alternator gave up the ghost just before the QE2 Bridge at Dartford and even with sometime slow Windscreen wipers going (just a spot of rain) I got as far as half mile from the Stop 24 Service Station on A20 Can't be absolutely sure that there was no charge but Dash lights kept flickering. It was a fairly new Yuasa Battery. Google how many miles that is? Quite a few! The Battery after the incident was charged gain and is still in the Car today although as left in France since August 2020 I suspect it may now be a dead Duck.
  23. Sounds a bit extreme ? Have you considered a Powerflow outlet to gave you a quote as there was quite a number of owners who had the "Y" pipe replaced for £250 or thereabouts. They welded to the Cats and di a great job for me. Engine out? bit drastic
