Very interesting and certainly starting to notice one or two more on the roads. Do both of you guys charge from the house mains? Or have you had a specific charging point installed? I was offered a subsidised installed charging point ( some kind of grant) a while ago..... don't know if I missed a trick for a future "e" vehicle or are they totally unnecessary? Yes you can see the new American productions teams format creeping in......I think they also produce "Fast & Loud" with messers Rawlings & Kauffman. I had to smile on one of the WD episodes......I think Edd was wearing one of his T-shirts saying Loud & Proud which I think was a nod to F&L.......and then Mike Brewer used the a Kauffman line ...... "Lower the altitude & raise the attitude"......(reference to ride height). So I think even though I quite like Ant the new guy coming in......I think WD risks loosing its simple charm. I've said it before......they need a female presenter to mix it up a bit. I don't just mean token, someone like Vicki Butler Henderson.......little bit of implied boy vrs girl etc.....I think would go well. I actually didn't mind the US version as they covered some pretty classic motors and a couple of odd balls also. My favourite all time line was when they the Lamborghini Urraco.... Edd said.... Finally there's a bull in the China shop..... always made me smile. 😄 Good luck to him, I think he could do so much more......I think he would also be a good ambassador for mechanical engineering teaching kids, young people etc. & lord knows we need some of that in this country. I know you want us to talk cars..... so obviously you would have to add all the consumables, wear & tear plus a insurance increase to the amount you need the salary increase to cover. I don't think any personal car leasing is going to be available or cost effective @35K miles pa. Could you negotiate a company vehicle or contribution? Just talking about the new role in my younger days I was offered an opportunity in the business I was working in to run the south west part of the company, I live in the midlands. So just over a hundred miles a morning before I started work & the trip home from wherever my day ended. It was certainly easier in the spring summer months, those dark poor weather roadworks winter days are tough. I did have the opportunity to stay away if I wanted (rarely did as had young family at the time & I've never found anything glamorous about business hotels).....I could also work from home on occasions & any H/O meetings were much closer. So why did I do it for a year or so because it accelerated my experience, capability, network etc. In the long game served me well. I know you didn't ask for career counselling but it does feed back into the original question..... if the opportunity is worth it & you think you can hack the travel then maybe a vehicle you know well & trust is the best bet and the difference between diesel or petrol is probably only a couple of tanks a month. Whatever you pick Lexus or non Lexus you'll be 100k miles up three years on wherever you started so the newer the vehicle the bigger the hit...so older car used as a comfy reliable workhorse maybe the answer. If new job gives a bit of extra dosh.... on top of travel expenses..... put it towards a new(er) Lexus maybe that you enjoy for non work travel! 👍 Hope helps. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

You're right Linas I was teasing a bit... Agreed on manual I would choose auto next time. I had to re-learn shifting for the is250 as too many years spent in low reving 4 pot diesels with turbo lag. The car is no hot rod granted.....but if you can keep the revs on or around the powerband.... it's not as poor as maybe some think for a heavy car producing 200-ish bhp. I can generally hang on to my mates Bmw 330i (2001) and that's supposed to be 225 bhp. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

No expert but..... I'm sure the drive towards DI vrs multi point was fuel efficiency & mainly lower emissions. Possibly driven ( in Lexus case) by changes in USA emissions10-15 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC

Diesel or petrol? If a good blast & additive don't work. There is a terraclean thread going at the moment......most folks want to see/feel huge performance gains which are rarely available......but can really help with bringing down emissions towards acceptable if too high. They can measure the start and finish levels so it is tangible. £70-100. Might get you through? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC

My headlamp lenses weren't really poor but they had a definite tint....especially on the upper part of the lens. Never had an advisory or even a mention at MOT .....but they were just letting the car down a bit and now she's 10 years+ a mixture of UV, lamp heat, etc. etc. Had taken its toll. Plenty of products on the market..... I decided to go for it with the 3M testoration kit that can be attached to a drill for extra speed, the kits available from loads of sources and usually aroundthe £20 mark. I could not see any feedback for this one on the forum search so thought I'd just share the results.......I'm pleased with outcome. Theyre not mind blowing as I previously said my lenses were a little tinted.....no way milky or bad enough for MOT anxiety. The kit has pretty clear instructions and there a number of YouTube videos for guidance / reassurance. There is some 3m inch tape ( green) in the pack to protect your paint work..... but I was a bit paranoid and also used two inch 3m tape (blue) for extra protection. i used an electric drill on the lowest speed setting......found I had more control that way. It gets a bit scary with the first P500 pad making the lens go white...... I won't deny started to wonder how much a second hand pair of headlamps were going to cost me! LOL.. IT IS VERY EASY TO MELT A BIT OF THE HEADLAMP SURFACE SO GO EASY ON THIS STAGE....... take the pad off the drill and use by hand If you need to detail any particular bits.......I would recommend this action at any of the stages. Second is a P800 which starts to bring back some lens clarity.. Thirdly the P3000 trizact disc used with water....... really start to see a difference then. Fourthly rubbing compound (supplied in pack) on a foam disc to polish up.......rub down with soapy water, buff up and bingo..... transformed. You rub the compound (smear) it on the lens first and then polish it off. I did got to high speed on the drill for these last few passes but in reality all I did was get a splatter pattern over me, the paintwork and the garage wall. So no real benefit of speed......just my impatience. i have also bought a lens wax / polish off Amazon to give back some protection...... not sure that it will be any better than normal wax etc. All in probably around three hours. Apologies for slightly different lighting on the photos but today has been a real mixture of sunshine and showers. Ive replaced all the bulbs on the front of the car (2006 basic model.. halogen) cost about £70ish + £20 for lens restoration kit. I've replaced side/parking lights with LED...... headlamp bulbs are standard just a lot whiter than originals. Final picture does not do the rebulb justice and the clarity of the lens is significantly better and much brighter.

Not a bad price fitted.... depending if you're not fussy over any specific pads & discs. From memory I think Lexus starts at £295 if your IS is + 5 years old. If your thinking of getting it done might be worth asking them to strip the Cali pets and grease the pins for what little extra it would cost.... a good investment for sure.
