  1. I'm in same boat.....in the middle of my own little experiment. Always been very happy when talking cars that mine (bought at 47k now 90k) didn't seem to lose a single drop between services. Those services I now believe C3 was used. Last service before yesterday's was done by Lexus using Mobil A5 and I've had to top up a full litre over 10k miles. So put C3 in yesterday. (Shell Engine Oil (Helix Ultra Professional AG Engine Oil - 5W-30 - 5ltr... £24.99 Eurocarparts + 30% off weekend = £17 odd quid.....I bought two) Specifications: API SN; ACEA C3; GMW16177 (dexos2™) So we will see......if I am really burning oil.... or my IS is just partial to eating A5. 2. Had to double check the thread title for a moment......wondered what what was going on with all this tape & juice chat! LOL... Sounded a a bit fifty shades darker 😜 Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  3. These are some of the itches I may scratch in the future...post IS. Honda Legend Volkswagen Phaeton (W12) IS-F RC (I get the engine discussion but just love the look of that car) Subaru Legacy 3.0R spec B Maserati quattroporte ZF gearbox BMW 640i / 650i Nissan 370Z GT Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  4. If MOT is pushed out to 4years as recently proposed...... can't see dealers lowering MOT prices and those garages that rely solely on repair business will continue to do what they can price wise to drag potential customers in..... as less theoretically being poured into the funnel at the top. So dynamic stays the same. Which is good news if you have a well maintained good quality +4yrs vehicle. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  5. I've never used this place in Derby....... but I will be about 10mins away from them on Wednesday this week coming. Happy to go and have a general nose about if helps?......see what kind of operation it is. I'm not a technical guy though....so cannot offer any appraisal of the engine. 6. RNUK...I've got nothing sensible to add ....but just to say I'm surprised at this issue and feeling for you....mines no prize winner but would hate for it to be snatched away from me like this. Fingers crossed you can find an engine.... I have seen them when I've searched for the odd bits of trim & as insurance companies are only too willing to write stuff off nowadays due to air bag deployments etc.... you may get a good engine with reasonable mileage. How much hardball you want to play with the indie is your call..... I guess depends how well you know them..... but even independent strip down to assess will cost more ££££. Good luck. 7. That's pretty decent ..... I can manage 40- 41 on 200 motorway miles +. I thinks it impressive for 10 year old V6 87k ( mines manual) Did you manage much cruise control on your trip? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  8. Hi Ray Good to see you're keeping up appearances! I've recently had a refresh paint job on mine also (55 plate) .... Its made me fall for mine all over again. Just got wheels to do..... can't make my mind up to refurb or go to 17s. I've gone original colour so you're obviously more creative/ braver than me! Not my cup of tea but looks a very decent job & overall keeps the flag flying for a few more years. Nice one. Phil Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  9. John, what's your thoughts on oil flush on a 2006 manual 85K with not 100% service history ( before I had it ).....probably never had a flush in it life. I've been dropping the oil on average every 7k ish for past few years over last 40k. I don't have too much chatter/ rattle at start up. Do you think good idea.....well overdue or could cause an issue if gunk build up on tappets? Phil Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  10. I personally don't see any issue for low mileage on the auto petrol ( short journeys don't seem to compliment the diesel or manuals for different reasons) I picked mine up with similar mileage and age. So service history needs to be strong and complete ...... Lexus are normally very helpful if you have a genuine enquiry on the history of a used vehicle they can see for sale on the net. They can check for recall info at the same time. Having work on the island in the past I understand the price difference but some of that is just convenience.....other examples on the mainland but have to factor travel costs to get them back over etc. Good luck. 11. Nice one ..... a forum first if I'm not mistaken. 👏 Interesting you noted some power increase as well......any thoughts? More power vrs s/s previous or more power than you remember for OEM.... or both? Again... good job. Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  12. I hope you're utilising your body shop expertise and spraying the roof box to match..... after all that effort! ;-))) Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  13. Yes IS250 manual does have a DMF, there is lots of discussion / evidence on the judder issue 1st & 2nd gear, seems to disappear when engine & transmission warms up. I've not heard that described as a ticking noise though at start up or idle?? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  14. Breakers yard might be best bet. Many of them are on eBay with IS parts...... worth a couple of enquiry emails may be? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  15. Excellent solution & great piece of work....... I take my hat off to you. I have been following with interest. Just throw this is ...... did you consider just two chrome tips ....wrapping each pair of pipes in one tip ..... maybe as an oval or a trapezium? Or would it just be too big and ugly? Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  16. +1 for denso ...... Also got mine from Ecp. Huge improvement on the blades that came with the car when I bought it (non oem). Get a good clean sweep and as Sunday proved where I was .... Can cope with anything. I think the replacement pieces from Lexus run to around £30 a pair. Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  17. I think Lexus dealers are offering to match tyre prices at the mo ...... If of any interest. Have not read t&c's though. Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  18. Yes it's seems an industry wide recall through that airbag manufacturer. I noticed in JLRs annual report that they had made a £166m provision for airbag recall in US. I would assume Takata are not the most popular people in automotive right now😬 Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  19. I asked a mate this morning for you. Apologies....You're right.....they do Nero 255 18" but the aspect ratio is 45 not 40 (probably what must have registered in my brain somewhere) & Cinturato is only up to 17" as you said. I'll let you get back to your original question for the thread. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  20. Bob I think Pirelli do the Zero Nero in that size. I was going to give them a try on my last change (different size) but they were out of stock for weeks so went for a regular alternative to get them done. Don't know if they are in your budget or brand preference. Reviews for all seasons seemed to be a bit mixed but there's a good review here. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/92863/all-season-tyres-test-20152016-top-all-weather-tyres-tested Blackcircles were listing them three months ago I remember. Hope helps. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  21. It's all opinion... & you did ask🤗 This look is pretty classic now for a performance Japanese car. First saw it over here 80's & then specially during nineties & noughties Drift King etc(or Donkey Kong if you know your car movies😋) look etc. So maybe not an age thing..... Maybe it's just more familiar to a more mature follower. I'm not a lover ..... But aesthetically if this was the look you were trying to achieve I would say solid contrast roof looks good, hope the bonnet is not...as I hate that, drop the black boot, keep the black contrast spoiler. Put black solid colour on the sills, with black wheels that would frame it nicely. IMO 👍 Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  22. Concure with Bob... Your local Lexus dealer will also be happy to do a free safety check..... In reality a quick rudimentary visual inspection. They'll then use it to have a chat about a service plan, which you may or may not be interested in. Was not a hard sell..... I asked them to give me everything they knew about the car and I also called the supplying dealer ( Lexus Stockport) who were extremely helpful. The MOT history online as recently discussed on the forum is also an easy one to track if any issues...... Worth looking at advisories etc and see if you can confirm work done.... Parts used .... Who did the work etc. Good luck... hope it's a good one. Sent from my iPad using Lexus OC
  23. Just had my letter... front passengers airbag inflators. 2006... They will be in touch.... Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
  24. Re buy it & rent it out. You would have to be able to get the vehicle very very cheaply to make it work.... If you can buy it that cheap without finance ...... You may as well take the chance on flipping it rather than hire it out. These are the general points on commercial hiring ( from experience!) - If you're using personal ( not business) finance to buy the vehicle then you know it will say no hire / third party stuff. - commercial insurance is ridiculous nowadays and only viable on larger fleets. Most half reasonable policies from brokers are only offered on 5+ vehicle terms...... Depending on vehicle type & usage expect that to be north of £3k - As a newbie expect them to as for a business plan ( yes your insurer will ask ) - it's a very competitive market.... £ margins are poor..... Unless you have scale to bargain up front on vehicle intake price. - car hire business make their money from Astra, Insignia, Leon, etc..... Not MB or BMW etc. - add late returners & people who think a hire car is just there to have the bo**cks thrashed off them + daily fall outs over scuffs and knocks. - you need to factor in breakdown & if your car is off the road you will be duty bound to hire them another vehicle if they are mid hire. - you can't hire purchase it legally to anyone without having a consumer credit license for those values. I promise you it's just not worth it at that scale...... I know everyone started somewhere but if you like that idea & got a bit of spare cash flow..... Go down the light commercial van route first as its a much wider market and see how you go. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
