  1. My Mercedes had these little levers in each headlamp but this simply dropped a little internal shield to mask the beam. One would still need to replace the units for permanent export.

  3. Do you have adaptive headlights, not simple auto lights? If so the adaptive high beam will change the range dependent on speed. I notice on my RX the high beam range extends significantly at speeds above 60mph but the beam pattern is much broader at lower speeds.
  4. Not round here they're not. Plenty of places advertising them but when one enquires they can't supply and they don't know when or if they'll come back in. Even ATS who are part of the Michelin group can't get stock.
  5. Pretty much as detailed in the owner's handbook, at least in my RC and RX handbooks. Lexus Swindon is my local dealership, they supplied both my RCs and my current RX and they are ace, superb service every time. Nothing seems too much trouble, very accommodating ...

Your independent garage is risking it's MoT testing licence and your road legal status/insurance etc.. by ignoring this 'blindingly' obvious statement in the MoT tester's manual - Existing halogen headlamp units on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986 must not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp for light source and lamp not compatible. This does not refer to complete replacement headlamp units which may be constructed with HID or LED light sources. If a complete headlamp unit has been replaced with a unit that was manufactured with HID or LED light sources, it must not be failed for ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ but it must meet all other requirements detailed in section 4 of this manual specific to the type fitted at the time of test.
  7. Tyres are everything, even fancy AWD and summer tyres will get you into trouble. Winter tyres and RWD is totally doable, I drove many snowy miles in my RWD Mercedes without trouble, well if one can get past all the stuck and abandoned cars!
  8. They might prefer to settle privately but wait until they find out how much this is going to cost. Lexus parts aren't cheap! Secondly your insurance T&Cs require you to advise them if you are involved in an accident. If the third party does go through their insurance (once they find out the cost), yours will be made aware irrespective of your preferences. Is the car bought through finance? Then you have to go through Lexus.
  9. You need to adjust the pressures to account for the drop in temperature, don't just wait for the temperatures to increase!
  10. All just to do with the ambient temperature drop. Run-flats are no more susceptible than 'normal' tyres. Just Boyle's Law in action! Inflate the tyres to the recommended pressures before the next journey
  11. 'Cold' just means at ambient temperatures i.e. the car hasn't been driven. First thing in the morning is when I tend to check mine, before setting off. Pressures will naturally rise and fall depending on the outside temps, going up in the summer , down in the winter. Which is why one is recommended to check and adjust if required on a weekly basis.
  12. The standard OEM battery won't discharge overnight, unless you have a parasitic drain. You need to find out why it's discharging so quickly or you will simply drain the 'bigger' battery..

  14. Except when they read the codes and see the date stamp for when the fault happened?
  15. Surely one should adjust the tyre pressure, rather than recalibrate the TPMS to the lower pressures, due to the colder weather. One's tyres would be under inflated? Regarding the SRS, not sure how cold can effect the supplementary restraint systems? Possibly a knock on effect from a low battery charge due to the cold?
  16. I don't believe 'cornering lamps' are an MoT check as long as the function is a separate bulb. Dealers may be able to code out the cornering lamps, telling the car it doesn't have them fitted if other variants don't have them. Personally I find them very useful, especially reversing in dark driveways or car parks.

  18. My first car was a Singer Chamois that I completely rebuilt into a road stage Monte Carlo rally car. Tuned 998 engine, competition transaxle, revised suspension, stripped interior, harnesses competition seats etc.. Those safety mods saved my life when a front tyre let go in a fast bend. Second car, a HP Vauxhall Firenza 'Droopsnoot' sold when I couldn't remove the rear alloys due to corrosion. Third car, a Vauxhall Chevette HSR with full body kit and tuning by Aston Martin. Sold when I punched the diff extended nose through the floor pan jumping a humpback bridge in the Lake district. Then came the sensible cars as the family grew. Vauxhall Cavalier, Rover Montego estate 7 seater great car. Shame it dissolved in the rain. SEAT Alhambra from new to 120k miles, fantastic car so versatile and completely reliable throughout. Then came the Mercs. First a bog standard C class 2.7ltr diesel from new to 120k. Must have added every option and coding possible over the years I had it. Changed the interior to uncoated nappa leather, so sumptuous but what a pain to keep clean! Easily spent £20k on it. Sold to feed my V8 itch, a CLS55, what a monster! As Clarkson said "A thug in a silk dressing gown" That 5.4ltr supercharged engine was a beast, lucky if the rear tyres lasted 6k miles. I really miss that charger whine. Now into Lexus, quite by accident I came across the RC, a truly stunning coupe, so good I bought a second. Knee and back issues forced a sale. Now in an RX, supremely serene transport!
  19. Not that unusual and not a 'ripoff' as you have been advised of the charge. It even states on the website that parking charges may apply at certain times or duration
