  1. I was really responding to your comment about the support and discount from the Germany brands. To me reliability is number 1.
  2. The handbooks will be availabe as a free. Pdf download from Lexus website.
  3. I left German cars for 2 reasons. 1. 2014 mini bought new. So many problems in 6 months of Ownership (acc spotting invisible head on collisions and doing emergency braking on motorway at 70.Self parking opting out part way through a manoeuvre .Steering failure at 12000 miles and no parts in the UK. Car damaged by recovery and it took a month to resolve. BMW couldn't find fault with the acc as no code recorded so car remained a potential hazard. Sold for a Mercedes C220. 2. 2 cars later Mercedes E250 cabriolet decided to go into limp mode during an overtake at 3pm in the afternoon. No warning lights. Got it home and rang Mercedes Rescue . No warning lights = not urgent, can't attend. Contact your dealer. Called dealer and explained car in limp mode. Advised they couldn't see it for 10 days.... Took car for a short drive. Hurrah warning lights on. Called Mercedes Rescue at 3.45pm and promised technician would call within 20 minutes. After several further calls they rang at 8pm to say technician not available until tomorrow so would recover car to dealer and arrange loan car. Recovery arrived about 9.30. Then had call from europcar to say a car would be sent from Birmingham Airport a good hour plus trip. It is now gone 10 so I want to go to bed. Arranged for a car to be collected locally in morning so I can go to my work appointments. Following day dealer rings to say camshaft sensor has failed. A few minutes work to fix. Then the rub. It is the most popular engine they use, but there isn't a part in the UK. Worse still there isn't one in Europe..... Car off the road for over a week until they found one in Carlisle at a garage outside the dealer network and got it couriered down. That was when I bought my first Lexus
  4. I know I'm going to need front pads and discs in the not too distant future. I think the service department at my dealer reckoned around £350, but that is on a hybrid RX. My mileage is currently around 40,000.
  5. Not wishing to be a pessimist, but a non functioning radio could be a downer. I would have thought if it w something simple the seller would have sorted it. Is it the ML system? A trader I know sold a Mercedes with a Harmon Kardon system which failed after a couple of weeks and it cost him into the thousands at trade price to fix it.
  6. Think there was a post on here regarding repairs to the heater fan a few weeks ago.
  7. Agreed to a point. I knew my cars rear offside wheel had moved inward by a fraction. The repairer failed to check it on a jig before ordering parts as the assessor didn't spot this. Subsequently a further 21 parts had to be ordered and fitted. So this car certainly will need checking before repair.
  8. Depends how experienced a driver you are if things get pear shaped. At the end of the day you can't beat experience when things go wrong. As a retired police officer who went on many driving courses it is important to recognise the limitations of your driving skills. With a modern high power vehicle it is easy to drive beyond the limitations of your skill set especially with all the electronic aids. That is where you can run into problems when you exceed their capabilities and don't know how to regain control.
  9. I made contact with the supplying dealer Today and am told that after Lexus Warranty rejected they are now in discussion with Lexus Customer Relations. Hopefully will know more soon....
  10. The point I'm trying to make is that my car had a slight crease in the panel which looked like a paintless repair but the hidden damage required completely replacing all the suspension as everything was bent underneath from the impact. The other car (a mini) had full airbag deployment and lost its front offside wheel completely.
  11. I still ask the question 'Why?'... If the car is repaired abroad surely there will be tax to pay when it is brought back into the UK. It can't be driven back as it is effectively scrap and needs to be examined and new V5 issued, taxed and insured. We have all seen the Eastern European guy glueing the roof onto the BMW 5 series on YouTube... My life is worth more than driving a heap of parts that have been cobbled together back into a mode of transport. Let's face it when my IS300h got hit in the same area causing minor panel damage, it cost nearly £6000 repair and the insurance companies repairers failed miserably to get it right taking 4 attempts to sort it - it was the hidden damage to the suspension that cost the big bucks. That is a supposed professional repairer doing the work who didn't initially spot the beggared suspension. How do we know in this case that the shell isn't twisted?
  12. I had them on the latest model BMW mini and a spirited drive across the Yorkshire Moors nearly caused a disaster as I came out of a right hand bend with a stone wall which caused the lights to dip as I entered the unlit road beyond which of course was unfenced onto the Moor. I kept them off after that.
  13. Your occupation and where the car is parked overnight are other factors to consider. As previously said comprehensive may be as cheap as tpft. If you are in a trade organisation you may find preferential terms. Good hunting
  14. Just a thought Has a neighbour changed a car recently (security system or keyless affecting your signal) or had a cctv camera installed. We have a'hive' system and they now supply wireless cctv cameras which must get a signal from WiFi.
  15. Don't forget to check the cost of insurance. As a new driver you could well find that the insurance costs more than the car. On that basis you might find it better to buy and run a car with a low insurance group for a couple of years.
  16. Well I eventually spoke to the supplying dealer today about my wheels. They confirmed that the wheels have never been repaired as they maintained the car from new . Lexus UK have apparently rejected the claim on the basis that the car was out of warranty. Warranty expired end of March and I bought it in June. I pointed out that if I'd bought a used Toyota Aygo for £12000 it would be covered and it is ridiculous that a car costing nearly £50000 with low miles less than 3.5 years old needs all the wheels repairing. The dealer is going to go back to Lexus UK to find out the reasoning when other claims in the past have succeeded. I await the next installment...
  17. Have your neighbours got any new wireless items? I'm not familiar with what sort of frequencies the key fobs work on, but as I said in my earlier post the proximity of my mobile phone certainly causes an issue. What is the mobile phone signal like where you live. Could a neighbour have sort of booster?
  18. With all hybrids the weather and style of driving can affect the economy dramatically. With my RX450 at this time of year I am averaging tankful to tankful just over 30mpg. That includes a lot of motorway and cross country driving. In the summer more like 35mpg.If you view Lexus hybrid driving technique video on YouTube you will learn a lot. My 2015 GS300h was fabulous on fuel. A trip from Gloucester to London last April recorded 52mpg. An NX driven sensibly ought to achieve mid 30s.
  19. Just don't wish your life away. You might find it easier and cheaper to insurance if you get an advanced driving qualification say IAM. I know when my daughter passed her test she did something called 'pass' plus and that reduced her insurance costs (albeit on a 1990 1.3 Ford escort).. That was 19 years ago so things have probably changed.
  20. I think you will struggle to get insurance unless you have extremely deep pockets. I seem to recollect when I was young 30 was the sort of age needed to insure any sort of performance car.
  21. Meguirs glass cleaner is about the best I have found I'm rubbish at glass cleaning
